Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on March 29, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

No wonder Barack Obama felt comfortable leaving the country after deciding to start a war in Libya. The Commander in Chief explained while in El Salvador that America’s volunteer military forces got, er, volunteered by “others” to go to war (via Ed Driscoll and PJM’s Tatler, emphasis Ed’s):

And that’s why building this international coalition has been so important because it means that the United States is not bearing all the cost.  It means that we have confidence that we are not going in alone, and it is our military that is being volunteered by others to carry out missions that are important not only to us, but are important internationally.  And we will accomplish that in a relatively short period of time.

“Volunteered by others”?  I’m not aware of a Constitutional clause that allows our orders to get “volunteered” for conflicts by any entity other than Congress or the President.  Perhaps we could get a Constitutional scholar to weigh in on this … you know, one actually in the country.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Illustrations by Chris Muir of Day by Day. Be sure to read the adventures of Sam, Zed, Damon, and Jan every day!

Prelude to subjugation to UN authority and decision-making regarding American economic and military action. What’s that EastAsia quote again?

Yes, R2P will become the left’s license to police/punish its critics and enemies. The precedent of embracing R2P represents the gravest danger of the Libyan adventure.

NATO probably realizes who dear leader truly is….

Final Four competitors. Everything he touches turns to crap. He is the kiss of annihilation and the catalyst to permanent residence in Loserville.

I’m going to have to start reading lefty blogs, I guess. I just cannot fathom the utter cluelessness of this man on my own. I recall reading that he was a Constitutional Scholar; that he conducted university lectures on the subject. What on earth did he lecture about? Does anybody have his lecture notes on this? (Stupid question, I know.)

I also wonder what happened to “Unity of Command” as one of the main Principles of War? Has no one on his staff, or any of the generals, pointed that one out to him?

He spent his formative years as a Community Organizer, whose main job was to empower the clueless. He apparently sees the world through that prism. That’s why he cannot stand criticism; he was a big fish in a small pond back in Chicago.

Knott Buyinit on March 29, 2011 at 9:00 AM

In their worst nightmares the framers of the Constitution could not have imagined that America would ever elect a President who so hates his own country and who is so mind-numbingly incompetent at the same time.

hmmmm…has Sarkozy and Qaddafi made some secret pact? We’ll call off the US if you leave our oil alone. Otherwise, the bombing continues and you’ll have no army or air force left. You can still be the tyrant in chief and treat your people how you wish. Yep, smart power.

Kissmygrits on March 29, 2011 at 9:33 AM

This OOTD is a logical extension of the concept of an all volunteer US military…

I volunteered to serve for 30 years, and POTUS volunteers us for tasking by international mandate…

Fabulous…

Is it November 2012 yet?

Khun Joe on March 29, 2011 at 9:48 AM

Barry did not order them into harms way. He volunteered them. The man does not know how to speak plainly. It’s all deception and obfuscation. If he is elected again, then decline is certain and deserved.

NeighborhoodCatLady on March 29, 2011 at 9:57 AM

This is an exact follow up to Hillary’s statement on Sunday that we didn’t need Congressional approval because we had international authorization.

katablog.com on March 29, 2011 at 10:12 AM

Perhaps we could get a Constitutional scholar to weigh in on this … you know, one actually in the country.

Perhaps we can get a Constitutional scholar that actually loves his country, and feels the Constitution is the most important document when it comes to the day to day runnings of Government?

capejasmine on March 29, 2011 at 10:15 AM

Obama’s a “constitutional scholar” . . . I think he said so himself. Not only that, our armed forces are not conscripts, but all-volunteer. It only stands to reason then that when someone volunteers our armed forces that it must be constitutional, if by “reason” you mean anything that scrolls up on the teleprompter. If this were not so, Joe Bite-Me would be pressing for impeachment, because he said he would.
Maybe Obama need some more speeches to sell this. Apparently there’s another communications problem, much like the one he suffered with the healthcare law . . .
