Obama to spend day “behind closed doors”

posted at 10:55 am on March 24, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

Normally, presidential schedules aren’t terribly interesting or revealing, but today’s bears some note. When Barack Obama left the country, he had just ordered America into military action against Libya without asking Congress for authorization, or even consulting Congress in any formal sense.  Leaders on both sides of the aisle have loudly objected to Obama’s arrogance and demanded answers from the White House on the “kinetic military action.”  The President has yet to formally address the country on this new, er, KMA almost a full week after it began.  One might think that Obama’s slightly early return to Washington would have him meeting with Congressional leaders and talking to the public about his new adventure and why it matters to Americans.

Instead, ABC’s Sunlen Miller says Obama will spend the day locked behind closed doors:

In the afternoon, the president will sit down privately with Treasury Secretary Geithner in the Oval Office.

Later, the president will convene a meeting with his national security team on Libya at the White House.

So Treasury’s Tim Geithner takes priority over the national-security team?  And shouldn’t Obama be meeting with John Boehner, Harry Reid, and the chairs and ranking members of the Armed Forces and Foreign Affairs committees in the House and Senate?  When does Obama plan to speak to the American people about this war … at his next fundraiser?

So much for the most transparent administration evah.

CNN and National Journal report that the closed-door urge was so strong, someone inadvertently locked out the President:

Y’know, we can either laugh or cry. I think I’m gonna do both. May God protect our Best and Brigtest over there, and the rest of us right here.

You’re being too modest, Ed. Your photo caption of “The empty-office presidency” yesterday forced him to cut his vacation short and must have really pierced his onion-skinned personna. What puzzles me is why he’s meeting with Geithner. Hang onto your wallets folks!

I think Geithner’s there to tell him “We’re out of cash-on-hand.”

The Fed had been really low on cash reserves earlier this month and is unable to sell more bonds thanks to the debt limit in place from Congress.

Unless they either cut expenditures or raise the debt limit, the country’s likely to have major cash-flow problems shortly.

Ed, how can you ridicule the most challenged president, evah?

Media, you intellectual toads, suffer a slow ‘death’, from suffocating on O’s caca. You dwell in there and you deserve no less, for dereliction of duty.

MNHawk on March 24, 2011 at 12:30 PM

Two years and we can change the locks. Jarret was too busy in the Oval to get up and answer the door, Obama had to use the doggie door.

A busy schedule for Obama today:

* Connecticut vs. San Diego State
* Brigham Young vs. Florida
* Arizona vs. Duke
* Butler vs. Wisconsin

Nice to know that he does not have a set a keys to the White House. That way when the voters perform a “Kinetic Military Action”, err “Kick My A$$” out he can not get back in.

Later, the president will convene a meeting with his national security team on Libya at the White House.

Yes…because “smart power” now has this mission in Libya demanding the attention we should be paying to Afghanistan/Pakistan……

Pakistan to shoot down US Predators?

By Bill RoggioMarch 19, 2011 11:54 AM

Read more: http://www.longwarjournal.org/threat-matrix/archives/2011/03/pakistan_to_shoot_down_us_pred.php#ixzz1HXCYOKs1

Citing unconfirmed reports, STRATFOR Pakistani sources said March 18 that the Pakistani air force has been placed on red alert in the Waziristan region and all personnel leaves have been canceled. According to the reports, Pakistan will no longer allow U.S. unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) strikes and will shoot down any UAV that crosses the border.

Sources also said that some operational changes had been made but they had been kept secret, but they believed that they were related to round-the-clock active reconnaissance in tribal areas. They said that these administrative and operational changes were part of Pakistan’s move to quickly respond to drone threats over its territories.

….Our situation in Pakistan…which has never been on level ground…is deteriorating at a rapid pace. What ever gains we make in Afghanistan will be blunted if Pakistan is not dealt with or some serious improvement is not made to turn this situation around.

The “intellectuals” of this supposed ally are openly declaring our defeat in Afghanistan and how it will energize the “Islamic Rev@luti@n”…

Columns in Urdu Daily Examine the U.S. Global Role and Prospects for an International Islamic Rev@luti@n
http://www.memri.org/report/en/0/0/0/0/0/0/5118.htm

“The expected defeat of the U.S. in Afghanistan will soon mark the downfall of the Western system. The world being unipolar, the Muslim people won’t have an option other than Islam, thereby paving the way for the renaissance of Islam in the near future. This revolution would uproot the old system. It is now the responsibility of Islamic movements to create awareness among Muslims and educate them to incorporate the Islamic way of life for breaking the ground for an international Islamic rev@luti@n… The wave of changes [in Tunisia and Egypt] has a message for our rulers [in Pakistan] that their exploitative regime would not resist the power of the masses…”

….We have deadly serious international issues to address that have direct consequences for Americans on the front lines and here at home.
What are we getting from the White House…
….a President who phones in an attack on another country from the beaches in Rio without any direction of a mission or what it is supposed to accomplish.

This President had better get his a$$ in gear pertaining to the war in the Afghan/Pakistan theater because a loss here will deliver more severe consequences than anything coming from his “kinetic activity” in Libya….

I think he is “chatting with Timmie” to get the financial scoop on how expensive this kinetic military action is (roughly $150-$200M a day or week or something – 20 different numbers), combined with BUSHS WARS AND FAILED DOMESTIC ECONOMIC POLICIES, therefore he has no choice but to fully back out, while offering $$$ support to the Steering Committee of Kinetic Military Action, far less than being engaged.

Or Timmies helping him prepare TurboTax.

I don’t understand all the fuss. It’s no big thing.

How to you expect the President to tell the American people what he thinks until he meets with his advisors so they can tell him what he thinks?

Perfectly reasonable.

Why was he outside in the first place? Doesn’t the private residence have a way to get to the office without going outside?

txmomof6 on March 24, 2011 at 4:59 PM

I got a chuckle out of Obama locked out of his own office, presuming that the Oval Office exterior doors would be left unlocked yet “secured”, convenience trumping all.

Being locked out of your own house takes the cake over Bush, when in China, attempting to exit with the hosts not properly directing him to the open door.
