Anthony Weiner: Hey, how about an ObamaCare waiver for … New York City?

posted at 7:14 pm on March 23, 2011 by Allahpundit

Mitt Romney did a little health-care pandering at the Corner yesterday by insisting that as president he’d grant O-Care waivers to all 50 states. Joke’s on him, though: At the rate we’re going, by the time the next president’s sworn in, we’ll all be excluded by waivers already.

Who needs repeal when we can simply exempt millions of people at a time?

“The president said, ‘If you have better ideas that can accomplish the same thing, go for it,’” said Weiner. “I’m in the process now of trying to see if we can take [President Barack Obama] up on it in the city of New York, … and I’m taking a look at all of the money we spend in Medicaid and Medicare and maybe New York City can come up with a better plan.”…

The congressman was trying to debunk Republican “myths” about the health care law during a speech at the Center for American Progress. He used the waivers as way to describe how flexible the law actually is and how “this notion that the government is shoving the bill down people’s throats” is not true.

“The administration needs to make this argument more forcefully,” he said. “A lot of people who got waivers were … people who are our friends.”

Because of its unique Medicaid structure, he wants NYC to have “more control over its own destiny,” which is as pithy a bumper sticker for the ObamaCare repeal movement as one could conceive of. Simultaneously, he’s also a fan of more aggressive “messaging” about the glories of O-Care. Which, at this point, may make him the only one left who still is: For your companion reading, savor this piece about the utter collapse of the left’s all-star, multimillion-dollar “Health Information Campaign.” Exit quotation from last June, when the group launched: “We’re going to run a very sophisticated campaign.”
