Video: The greatest quarterback of all time?

posted at 9:14 pm on March 22, 2011 by Allahpundit

To cleanse the palate. I used to think this guy was the greatest of all time, but now I don’t know. Watching the two clips in sequence is like watching a highlight reel of Jordan when he was on the Bulls followed by one of Kobe when he was in high school. The skill levels are different, obviously, and the latter still has much to prove, but … the potential. So much potential.

Someday this kid will win a state championship, sign with a major college, play in a bowl game or two, and eventually be drafted by the Jets. And then, thanks to the k-a-r-m-a that surrounds the J-E-T-S, he’ll reek. I’m already preparing myself for the disappointment.

Highlight reel.

How many times did he miss?

Not impressed. Try it with a pass rush and a weak line.

I would’nt want to be hiding,if he threw a grenade,
it would be accurate!(sarc).

Highlight reel.

How many times did he miss?

BacaDog on March 22, 2011 at 9:19 PM

According a comment left by him on his YouTube page:

These are the throws I got on the first try: the one when I roll out and hit the jug off the pole, the 20 & 30 yard throws off the dock, the blind folded deep corner , the one where my brother throws the jug up in the air and the one where I hit the three bottles off Tyler’s head and both hands. The 5 balls at the sled took 3 tries and the ones off the roof took about 6 or 7 tries. The blind folded one off the pole took the longest.. almost 20 tries. Most of the others 4-5 tries

You-Eh-Vee on March 22, 2011 at 9:24 PM

You posters are rough. He’s probably only twelve. He obviously has potential. However, if he wants to have a football career he would be wise to stay off rooftops.

I think he didn’t miss that much. If you look at the scene where he is shooting from 20-30-40 yards, watch the sun shadow on the ramp. I’d estimate the time elapsed between the 30 yard shot and the 40 yard shot only about 15 minutes. Take into consideration the camera guy eating up time with this directing, and the time spent retrieving the ball after each throw, it’s not like he spent all day there doing that shot.

Funny, I was going to make that argument, but didn’t bother considering the crowd so far.

You-Eh-Vee on March 22, 2011 at 9:28 PM

Obviously Obama needs to appoint a trick shot czar. You how he was making those throws with no railing from the top of the building?? Awful. That is what you get when brother Obama isn’t watching over us.

NotCoach on March 22, 2011 at 9:28 PM

There’s hope for him at least. After all a 13-year-old QB committed to USC last year.

JammieWearingFool on March 22, 2011 at 9:29 PM

He has a real shot at making the Palestinian team. Best thing is they dont have a minimum age.

WoosterOh on March 22, 2011 at 9:30 PM

Kid has a good arm for a twelve year old, and it’s just him, his brother, and I’m assuming his father (based on the music choices) having fun. Over-analyzing this is pointless.

Some people are VERY easily fooled.

100% legit video. This isn’t some long distance basketball shot form the top of a 50 foot building.

abobo on March 22, 2011 at 9:35 PM

Decent palate cleanser. The kid obviously spends a lot of time practicing. Good for him, a lot of 12 year olds can only do that on the Xbox.

I could make myself look like Dan Marino with a little editing.

OK, go make one then. Let us know how it turns out. You can get some of the other internet heroes that have also posted thus far to help you out.

Hint; wipe the cheese puff crumbs off your fingers first so the ball won’t slip.

John the Libertarian on March 22, 2011 at 9:50 PM

Check the angles of the sun on the bank shot at about at 3:50. At least 10-15 minutes pass from him speaking and he makes it. Figure someone running in to grab the misses, easily enough time for 20 attempts or so. Still pretty neat.

I don’t get the negative stuff about the kid. The only negative thing I saw was that ugly@ss Hawkeye bucket.

Bugler on March 22, 2011 at 9:52 PM

The problem is this kid’s not going to grow to be much more than 5’6″, so the laser passes will be batted down at the line.

That said, he probably could be a replacement player this year.

When I was 12-13 and had a lot of time on my hands, my friends and I would come up with stuff like this… footballs, baseballs, frisbees, etc. There was nothing in there that was terribly spectacular.

The only cuts that looked impressive were the blindfolded shots, but how do we how “blind” he really was?

mankai on March 22, 2011 at 10:02 PM

doesn’t impress me until he can do it on command.

michaelo on March 22, 2011 at 9:50 PM

,,that may be, but the kid’s got some talent. A couple of the shots — like the one with the tackling dummy and the other one where he knocks the cans off his brother’s head and his hands — were on the same take and that’s pretty accurate for a 12-year old.

Hell, that’s pretty accurate for a 66-year old ex-quarterback like me.

The War Planner on March 22, 2011 at 10:22 PM

Let’s not start counting this kid’s championships yet. JaMarcus Russell showed what a great QB he was going to be by throwing 70 yards from his knees and other YouTube tricks. Now, 4 years after getting drafted #1, he’s been out of football for a year and is pushing 4 bills. How bad do you have to be to be cut and out of the league after 3 seasons?

Pity that somewhere out there some child just wishes he had the chance to throw a football.

Noocyte on March 23, 2011 at 12:56 AM

The kid has some talent that needs nurturing.
He’ll also need a very good offensive line or a very fast setup and release in addition to a few good pair of hands to throw to.

Or he may just decide to get his PhD in analytical chemistry.

I vote for the latter.

Bubba Redneck on March 23, 2011 at 2:02 AM

Whatever.

And the stupid fluctuating level music drove me to stop it well before the end.

Midas on March 23, 2011 at 2:05 AM

Sometimes, you just have to enjoy things for what they are. The kid’s got an arm at age 12, what with throwing the football 40 yards into a small container.

He’s not sitting in front of the tv getting fat playing video games, so I don’t understand all the negative vibes.

I certainly couldn’t do those things at age 12, he11, I probably couldn’t do them at age 20, either.

Cindy Munford on March 23, 2011 at 8:01 AM

I said pretty much the same thing on the quarterback video a few weeks(months?) ago that was a back up at some university.

Playing QB is so much more than accuracy. I have seen average skilled QBs lead teams to victory and be unbeatable due to reading defenses, scrambling, and making split-second decisions on the fly. And I have seen QBs that win the QB competition every year lose every game of the season.

Think of it this way. Why is it that there is a team called the Harlem Globetrotters? They have proven that they can hit every trick shot in the world, but they would still lose to any NBA team by a blow out.

Of course, since this kid is 12, and he is obvously showing potential as well as taking an interest in being a QB, we will probably make it to High School QB and possibly college. But how well he does is a complete mystery.

jeffn21 on March 23, 2011 at 8:57 AM

DrSteve on March 23, 2011 at 8:58 AM

The sad part is him like sooooo many other kids that are overly trained at a young age won’t even play his senior year. His shoulder will be shot long before that.

Redglen on March 23, 2011 at 9:17 AM

SO WHAT The 12 year old kid can’t do it while engulfed in fire and be chased by Rhinos at the same time. Not Impressed. /sarc/

Kuffar on March 23, 2011 at 9:50 AM

It’s easy to edit together footage of just the hits. It’s obvious the kid does have some skills though. The five throws at the blocking dummies and sinking the 2 in a row in the big planters in front of the building demonstrates overall consistent control…not to mention hitting all of the moving targets…edited or not.
