Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on March 21, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

In olden times, monarchs employed court jesters to keep them amused while the weight of power and authority hung heavily on their shoulders. Oft times, they also criticized their courts; Queen Elizabeth I was said to have chastised her fool for insufficient criticism. For the most part, though, the jesters did the entertaining while the rulers waged war and ruled their kingdoms.

These days, not so much. While America sent its men and women into battle over the skies and off the coast of Libya, its Commander in Chief spent his day doing this while in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil:

The AP does its best to spin as adeptly as Obama plays with his soccer ball:

Meanwhile, U.S. warplanes pounded faraway Libya.

It was all summed up by one image: Obama, adeptly juggling a soccer ball, as his aides helped him juggle his agenda.

Well, I agree the image sums things up nicely.  I had planned to use today’s OOTD to point out that Obama may be the first President to send troops into a new conflict without sticking around the White House to run things.  Playing soccer in a Rio alley while our men and women launch hostilities against Moammar Gaddafi instead of leading the nation from its capital really does sum it up well, but not in the way that the AP hoped.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

I’m more frosted that ObaMao trumpeted in his speech to Brazil that we would be its biggest customer for oil, especially since he gave mucho dollars in our name to that country to develop its resource and was instrumental in oil rigs leaving our Gulf of Mexico to head to the producing fields of Brazil.

On Friday Barry told congress it would take ‘days not weeks’. Welcome to day three…..

-Gadaffyduck troops haul civilians into target zones. This morning a squadron of UK Tornados turned back to England unwilling to hit the target.

-India jumps ship and calls for an end to the mission

-and not this just in from the BBC…

The US has said it expects to hand over control of the operation to a coalition headed by France, Britain or Nato in a matter of days, though it is not yet certain whether Nato would then take command, as is currently being discussed.

The military operation may relatively quickly turn into something more routine, with ongoing patrols to ensure that the no-fly zone holds.

But the danger is that the result of enforcing the UN resolution could be a stalemate, something Washington has already acknowledged, while President Barack Obama admitted today that “no-one can say for certain how this change will end”. Nor how long it might take.

anniekc on March 21, 2011 at 8:37 AM

It would have been better to have seen a picture of Obama dancing down the street during a Carnival parade, shaking a pair of festive rattles while being dressed in one of those frilly collared shirts and wearing one of those crazy headdresses they wear for events like that.

Even better, superimpose a picture like that with one of innocent Libyans citizens dying in the streets amidst the bombed out ruins of Tripoli, and then publish that picture worldwide!

* NO consultation with Congress at all; told some Democrats he was going to do it on Friday- hardly consultation.
* The decision was apparently made after a single meeting; he gave more thought to his March Madness basketball picks.
* There is no defined end point at all; not the removal of Gadaffi, partitioing of Libya, no one knows where this is leading.
* The action was taken a new ‘Responsibility to Protect’ UN principle which is downright terrifying in the breadth the precedence represented.
* The action is taken too late and can only lead to a protracted state of war within Libya and, naturally, the Arab States are saying ‘we didn’t mean it’.
* Obama takes this action as Commander-in-Chief, then flies off to Rio while it’s underway.

Sorry, folks; but I am truly beginning to believe this guy has either mental health or- more likely to me- a drug problem.

But Ed, there’s another “meanwhile”…

Meanwhile, Sarah went up into India and became the 1st republican to speak to the conclave, where democrats used to be the guest of honor. Obambi played with children balls in an alley while Sarah spoke of her vision for America.

Kinda reminds me of another Barak that had to be cajoled into acting like a leader…
Judges 4:8 Barak said to Deborah, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.”
9 “Certainly I will go with you,” said Deborah. “But because of the course you are taking, the honor will not be yours, for the LORD will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.” So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh.

Needless to say, with SP as POTUS, the Kos kids wouldn’t be able to start their day off with a “Sarahteurism” of the day. LOL

Schlockmeister-Deluxe Michael “Where’s The Buffet” Moore was tweeting like mad over the weekend CRITICIZING Obama for his involvement in Libya, while everyone’s favorite wack-job Nation of Islam leader “Calypso Louis” Farrakhan was also getting down on Obama’s case for his interfering in the domestic affairs of Farrakhan’s good buddy, Quadaffi Duck.

…the idea that Obama has some grand “coalition” is a joke.

major players on the international scene voted “present” on this Libya jaunt and now it looks like they were simply waiting to use it against us.

First the Arab league comes out with criticism….then Russia and China follow suit.
…it won’t be long before other Arab nations will start yelling “death to the crusader!!!!”…

Obama turned his back on gains in Iraq…only concerned with “ending this war” without any efforts to secure hard earned victory…..
…..Obama has shown aloofness and staggering incompetence in dealing with the Afghan/Pakistan theater…
……now he is launching in to Libya for “humanitarian” reasons that don’t add up when compared to him turning his back on Iran,Darfur,Iraq, and other Middle Eastern Countries…..

….it was only weeks ago that this administrations policy was to not “interfere” in other countries affairs so as not to make their uprisings about the US….we didn’t want to inflame the mulsim world and increase terrorist recruitment….

Still happening, only the lingo has evolved. Now little Bammie summons Hollywood stars to the White House to perform tricks acts for him during his twice-weekly posse shakers.

What do those summoned really think of this process? How much of this amounts to coercion? What would happen to their careers if it was let out that they were summoned and refused a royal performance? Might that also result in an IRS audit?
