Rand Paul to Obama energy official: Why are you pro-choice on abortion but not on toilets and lightbulbs?

posted at 9:29 pm on March 10, 2011 by Allahpundit

The presumptive answer: Abortion is protected by a constitutional right of privacy and/or bodily autonomy whereas consumer goods like toilets and lightbulbs — and health insurance! — aren’t, and are therefore subject to whatever regulation the feds can dream up in the name of the common good. Paul’s confusion stems from his quaint notion that there are conceptual limits on congressional/executive power even if those limits aren’t specifically enumerated. (See, e.g., the Ninth and Tenth Amendments.) Hasn’t he heard that the Commerce Clause entitles Congress to do virtually anything it wants, especially if it involves, er, “mental activity”?

You’ll enjoy every minute of this. Exit quotation: “I’m sorry about your toilet.”

Great riff, Rand. If you hadn’t been elected, we’d never hear anything like that in congress. And look at her stupid, smug smile at the end. She has no intention of examining herself or her policies as Paul suggests. She’ll leave the room and go right back to her dictates, “do it or else!”

Remember the commerce clause is in effect unless liberals want to boycott another state due to policy differences. The sole purpose of the commerce clause was to prevent trade wars yet Arizona becomes the target of a trade war and the commerce clause was not mentioned.

PERFECT PAPPY EXAMPLE

We have one of the new reduced waterflow shower heads (you can’t buy the old ones anywhere like Lowes anymore because the Feds made it illegal to manufacture and sell). Well the wonderful new NANNYshowerhead cuts down on the water coming out but GUESS WHAT?

We still have to USE the same amount of water that we’ve always used but now….it freaking takes another 5 minutes to take the shower.

Then we had to replace the nozzle on the kitchen faucet last week and lo and behold NOW we have to get a lower Gallon per minute “GREEN” nozzle that cuts down on the flow per minute BUT……GUESS WHAT?

We still have to use the same freaking amount of water we did before….now it just takes another couple of minutes to fill up the kitchen sink!!

And light bulbs? Office Depot is now GIVING THE SWIRLY CFL Bulbs away with a lamp purchase, and you know what we did? We asked the Manager to take the bulb out (they did and didn’t act like it was the first time they had heard the request). Let Office Depot dispose of it.

Thank goodness we can still stock up on the Edison Bulbs. We’re buying them like crazy because NANNY wants to tell us what kind of bulb we can use (but wants to poison us with Mercury or fine us $100,000 in California for improper disposal of the suckers).

What NEXT? Cars that the Feds can control that we just get in and it drives us where we are allowed? After all “THINK OF ALL THE LIVES IT WILL SAVE IN TRAFFIC DEATHS”. I can hear it already.

What NEXT? Mandatory GPS Chips in our kids to keep them safe from predators (as a side note they can be tracked by authorities)?

RAND PAUL IS 100% RIGHT on this!!!

He raises a good point and one that I have asked before. First, though, I though Roe v Wade was predicated on a “privacy” issue and not on a bodily autonomy issue.

Which brings me to me question. If the constitutional right to abort is based on the right of privacy and not allowing governement to intervene between a person and her doctor, then how can the Supreme Court allow a healthcare bill that requires and controls relationships between people and their doctors to stand?

Under Roe, the government was specifically disallowed from regulating certain medical procedures; but under the Commerce Clause under healthcare reform, the goverment now threatens to require medical information, set treatments and costs, and regulate virtually every aspect of healthcare. Is it possible, or worth it in any way to get the SCOTUS to claarify this?

.
I have some foamy blue bubbly stuff you put in the hopper.Just add fins and it burbles and boils, then you pull the chain and the amphibian slides down the drain.
Fins and a polite statement are just not happening.
Light out kid and take your meds.

Much like a disgusting turd, Rand Paul liberal policy should be flushed ASAP.

Obama to me looks most like a turd. Just saying.

Amen! and please put back in whatever it is that made the dishwashing detergent really clean the dishes!

I love Rand and am glad we sent him a few bucks :)

Me too. Especially since I use 3 times the amount of water with the “water saver” toilet vs. the old porcelain guzzler I used to have.

I mean, crap, it takes 4 flushes per trip to keep from stopping the damn thing up.” …

From the youtube comments. I thought it was pretty good:

Interesting that Ms. Hogan sees this program as a great partnership between the Administration and the Congress, odd though that she didn’t see THE PEOPLE in that equation. So we have a woman who is a classic liberal with the “I know what you need better than you do.” mentality.

Go buy some trisodium phosphate (TSP); all the new detergents are low phosphate.

Mix the TSP with your dishwasher liquid or laundry detergent. Google it for precise instructions.
