Video: Wisconsin Dem intervenes to protect GOP senator threatened by mob

posted at 10:12 pm on March 1, 2011 by Allahpundit

You have to see it to believe it. The clip is long and the key moment doesn’t come until 2:50 in, but you won’t be able to look away. The savior here, in the orange union t-shirt and sportsjacket, is Democratic Rep. Brett Hulsey; behind him, with white hair and glasses, is Republican Sen. Glenn Grothman. Watch and try to imagine what might have happened had Hulsey not been there. Even some of the protesters are sufficiently alarmed to start a chant of “peace-ful” to calm the more unruly ones down.

Ann Althouse, who lives in Wisconsin and has been covering the protests since they began, reports tonight that her husband just got back from the statehouse with video of at least one person who seems to have lost his mind — either from sleep deprivation or who knows what else. Quote: “Someone needs to go around to everyone who is still there and check them for mental stability.” If you want to know why Michelle Litjens and other Republicans need a police escort around the Capitol, now you know. Democrat Insurgent Terrorist Tactics!

Well, if anything was going to make it obvious that the police were interested in protecting the union, rather than their actual duty, this should do it.

We need a national law enshrining what even FDR knew. Public “servants” should NOT be allowed to be members of a union.

The chanting reminds me of when Breitbart told his story at CPAC about ACORN chanting. I was most creeped out by the way they took up chanting “Peaceful.” It really made no sense, since they didn’t let up on him at all after starting it. Honestly, I don’t get the appeal of chanting syllables in unison. Maybe that is why I’m not a Leftist.

I look forward to everyone condemning this who drew up their skirts and shrieked at the supposedly-racist-but-tame-by-comparison Tea Partiers during the purposefully provocative walk the House Dems took before the Obamacare vote.

Pish posh, you could get video like that any day of the week by visiting your local DNC or SEIU headquarters.

Bishop on March 1, 2011 at 10:21 PM

Amazing. A few cooler heads started chanting “peaceful” just trying to call off the mad dogs in the group. They saw what was coming. How long before they can no longer call off the dogs, and somebody gets hurt?

Where are the cops? Oh, right, they’re union. So where is the National Guard? Restore some order, for goodness sake!

GaltBlvnAtty on March 1, 2011 at 10:15 PM

Yeah, I loved that part. As an unruly mob is blocking a GOP representative from entering the building and shouting in his face, the Democrat actually has the stones to stand there and call the demonstrators “peaceful and respectful”. Never mind the shoving, the Hitler and Mubarak signs, and the trash and stink they’ve been leaving in their wake.

Doughboy on March 1, 2011 at 10:23 PM

From Althouse’s site:

Meade said…

Very young kid. Mom and a dad and sister back home out of state. I offered to get him medical help. He said no but asked for a hug. I hope he makes through another night. He seemed very confused and sad. He needed to get away from the drumming.

IrishEi on March 1, 2011 at 10:24 PM

These people are ignorant, uneducated (indoctrinated yes), and taught that violence and killing is acceptable to get what you want.

They’re so full of propaganda they don’t even know what the hell is going on.

Walker should bring in the National Guard to provide safe passage since it’s apparent the cops won’t do anything.

darwin on March 1, 2011 at 10:24 PM

The union loyalists are trying to provoke ‘something’.
First guess, they’re engaged in simple intimidation. At a higher level, they are trying to provoke something, and they’ll claim to be the victims of an unreasonable unprovoked attack.

Then Obama will have to step in with Federal troops to ‘restore order’. Organized labor has a two hundred year history going back to the days when ‘mechanics’ destroyed rival printing presses.
