Huckabee: Obama grew up in Kenya; Update: Spokesman clarifies

posted at 5:58 pm on March 1, 2011 by Allahpundit

The weirdest thing about this? Even Birthers, as far as I know, don’t claim that The One grew up in Kenya. Their standard narrative seems to be that he was born there, moved with his parents to Hawaii, and then with his mother to Indonesia. Where Huck got this idea, I simply have no idea.

Actually, scratch that. The weirdest thing about this is … Huckabee’s not a Birther.

In an interview with The Steve Malzberg Show on Monday, Huckabee talked about Obama’s “having grown up in Kenya.”

Huckabee’s comment came in response the host asserting that Obama spent “millions of dollars in courts all over this country to defend against having to present a birth certificate.”

“One thing that I do know is his having grown up in Kenya, his view of the Brits, for example, very different than the average American,” Huckabee said in response.

“If you think about it, his perspective as growing up in Kenya with a Kenyan father and grandfather, their view of the Mau Mau Revolution in Kenya is very different than ours because he probably grew up hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather,” Huckabee added.

My read on this is the same as Weigel’s, that Huckabee’s not questioning Obama’s citizenship so much as mistakenly making a hash of his biography. He knows that Obama grew up abroad, but somewhere along the line, between Birther chatter about Kenya and Gingrich’s talking points about Obama’s “Kenyan, anti-colonial worldview,” he forgot that it was Indonesia where O was raised. What’s interesting about the clip isn’t the error about Kenya, it’s the fact that he does appear to buy into the Birther subtext that O is fundamentally different and foreign, a premise he seemed to reject previously in dismissing concerns about Obama’s birth certificate and his relationship with Jeremiah Wright. I’m honestly surprised. Exit question: Is this proof that he’s running or that he isn’t?

Update: Oopsie, says his spokesman:

“Governor Huckabee simply misspoke when he alluded to President Obama growing up in ‘Kenya.’ The Governor meant to say the President grew up in Indonesia.”

“When the Governor mentioned he wanted to know more about the President, he wasn’t talking about the President’s place of birth – the Governor believes the President was born in Hawaii. The Governor would however like to know more about where President Obama’s liberal policies come from and what else the President plans to do to this country – as do most Americans.”

Again, he’s formally rejecting the Birther claim about Obama’s origins while winking at it by wondering about the mysterious origins of his policies. Where did Hillary’s or Pelosi’s or Reid’s or John Kerry’s policies come from? You’re going to get ruinous spending and weakness on foreign policy under any of them (maybe less so on the latter with Clinton). Imagine President Nancy. Imagine it.

Any pic I’ve seen of his book signing tour stops looked pretty disappointing. I think he knows he doesn’t stand a chance against Sarah. Mitt thinks he can buy a victory over Sarah. Christie would have to bully his victory over Sarah.

So, looks like Sarah will be the next President !

stenwin77 on March 1, 2011 at 9:13 PM

The Governor would however like to know more about where President Obama’s liberal policies come from

The answer can be given by a guy called Glenn Beck, that has a TV show too, same network as The Governor, and has plenty of information on the matter. Just hang out in the hallway, he’ll turn up and educate you on Obama’s socialist/Marxist/communist + community organizing endeavors with the lowlifes that hung out with him and did further damage by, ahem, teaching how to smoke.

I mean Governor Huckabee, you can always ask Alex Jones, but Ron Paul already claimed him./sarc

Even Mitt Romney isn’t stupid enough to buy in on the Birther issue. Nor would Romney be stupid enough to say something similar to what Mike Huckabee said today.

And Sarah Palin isn’t as stupid as Mike Huckabee either.

I’d like to see Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin debate each other. That would be fun.

The rule of law in our Constitutional Republic died on January 22, 1973. On that day, our once great nation abandoned that which it had held sacred and which had made it the “shining city on the hill”: protecting what it had enshrined in our Founding Documents – the God-given Right to Life.

Now, the wanton deaths of fifty million unborn human beings are the blood soaked and rolling consequences of the negation of our most fundamental Documents and their protection of the weak from the strong. through abortion, they have been ripped root and branch from the American rule of law, exposing all peoples to stand exposed and helpless with no protection from the might of those stronger.

Our first Abortion President knows this existential and horrible truth more thoroughly than most of us can imagine.

This is why he has bet on getting away with relentlessly, ruthlessly, and with wild abandon taking an unconstitutional, supra-constitutional and shredded-constitutional wrecking ball to every aspect of American life and law, without fear of reprisal or comeuppance. And it seems his wager is paying off in spades.

Therefore, with growing strength and impunity, he has become the perpetrator-in-cheif, while the gop quail in fear.

Barry is driving the nation over the proverbial cliff that in reality, was breached in 1973. We’ve been falling in slo mo ever since, but the ground is getting really close now and the folly of allowing so much death to happen to so many innocents is coming into focus just before we hit the ground.

I hear you…I totally understand. I shall not mention Reagan to Mr. PPF’s family; that’s when I consider myself as being in Apache land. Mr. PPF doesn’t buy it but doesn’t care either. He needs HARD evidence. I think even if the HARD evidence was shown, he’d be a skeptic “Republican”.

Meanwhile Herr Obama’s first political prisoner, LTC Lakin, is sentenced by a Kangaroo Court/Witch Trial to go to prison for honoring his oath and daring to ask something that might embarrass the U.S. Army’s Royal Majesty and Supreme Master, Herr Barack Hussein Louie Obama. Even down here in the Rabbit Hole things aren’t half this upside down and screwed up.

Apparently, the usuper-in-cheif doesn’t merit Tokyo Rove’s repeated slams of “unpresidential” and “lacking in gravitas” for literally giving enemies the finger in public like a teenager in homeroom. But Sarah Palin does. Tokyo and Charles “Palin should leave the room” Krauthammer are now permanently persona non grata to me.

Republicans really have to start giving him the finger right back. I wonder if any at the Governors’ meeting did?

slickwillie2001 on March 1, 2011 at 10:10 PM

From Dr. Charles E. Rice, law professor emeritus at Notre Dame University and the author of the RICO statute. As it’s author, Dr. Rice testified as to RICO’s abuse by the National Organization of Women in the landmark pro-life case NOW v Scheidler:

“It is fair to say that the Obama controversy involves significant issues of fact and law that deserve some sort of official resolution.”

“I suggest no conclusion as to whether Obama is eligible or not. But the citizens whom the media and political pundits dismiss as ‘birthers’ have raised legitimate questions,” he said.

“That legitimacy is fueled by Obama’s curious, even bizarre, refusal to consent to the release of the relevant records. Perhaps there is nothing to the issues raised. Or perhaps there is,” he said.

“This is potentially serious business. If it turns out that Obama knew he was ineligible when he campaigned and when he took the oath as president, it could be the biggest political fraud in the history of the world,” he said.

“As long as Obama refuses to disclose the records, speculation will grow and grow … the first step toward resolving the issue is full discovery and disclosure of the facts,” he said.

While courts should have an interest, he said, a House committee investigation could “ascertain the facts, compelling by subpoena the production of all the available records relevant to Obama’s eligibility, including the complete Hawaiian records of his birth, his passport records to ascertain whether he traveled to Pakistan in 1981 on an American or other passport; the records from Occidental College, Columbia University and Harvard Law School to determine whether Obama described himself as a foreign student; and such other records as may be relevant.”

He said Congress also could consider requiring candidates for a federal elective office to produce evidence of their eligibility, and the define the term “natural born Citizen.”

He said it would be a “public service” for the House to “determine those facts and to recommend any indicated changes in the law or the Constitution.”

I wonder what conservative will be the first to smear an eminent legal scholar such as Dr. Rice, a “birther”?

Statement From Mike Huckabee Regarding WOR Radio Interview
by Web Team

On Monday, while on Steve Malzberg’s radio show on New York’s WOR Radio, I was asked about the President Obama’s birth certificate issue. In my answer, I simply misspoke when I alluded to President Obama growing up in ‘Kenya’ and meant to say Indonesia.

As I have stated on page 1 of my new book ‘A Simple Government’ and in numerous interviews with dozens of reporters – I don’t believe there is an issue with Barack Obama’s birth certificate. However, I do believe there are serious issues with the President’s policies, and I have been openly opposed to the President’s world view.

I’m not surprised the NY Times chose to sensationalize this story. In fact, the New York Times, the AP, and other news organizations ran with the “sensationalized story” despite being specifically told by Steve Malzberg himself that they were incorrect in their assessment of the sound bite. You just can’t help but laugh when my simple slip of the tongue, becomes a huge story – and a certain Presidential candidate claiming to visit all 57 states, gets widely ignored.

It’s unclear how well Obama did as an undergraduate, although he was not a distinguished student. Obama refuses to release his transcript from his undergraduate years. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, Obama was not well-known among classmates after he transferred to Columbia University from Occidental College in the early 1980s. The article quotes a former roommate who states that Obama’s performance improved after he stopped taking drugs (which Obama has admitted to openly). Since Obama did not graduate with honors, that means his GPA was between a 2.0 and a 3.3 – although, since he was admitted to Harvard Law School, it’s hard to imagine his GPA was much lower than a 3.3.
Obama graduated from Columbia in 1983 with a degree in political science. He specialized in international relations.
Law school was another story for Obama. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School (the second highest honor available) in 1991. He also was the first black president of the Harvard Law Review, a very prestigious honor. None of this can really be verified as Obama refuses to release the information. It’s quite discouraging and makes one think if any of this is true.

Just because Obama was elected President doesn’t mean we get to see his grade in his Freshmen English class. I’ll admit Obama’s grade in his Economics classes could be an endless source of amusement, but there is no good reason for the lunatic voyeurism that leads to such demands. What’s next? Demanding to know the size of Obama’s erect penis? A weekly report from Michelle about their sex life?
