Scott Walker responds to Obama: You sound a little like a union boss, you know that?

posted at 7:51 pm on February 28, 2011 by Allahpundit

Oh, now, no he doesn’t. Union bosses are known for making thinly veiled violent threats, like the time his pal Trumka reacted to a strikebreaker being shot dead with a wink-wink about not playing with matches if you don’t want your fingers burned. The One doesn’t say stuff like that; he sits back and lets other people say it, then does his above-the-fray shtick by pleading for civility towards those on his side. Much more nuanced.

Walker’s office issued this statement:

“I’m sure the President knows that most federal employees do not have collective bargaining for wages and benefits while our plan allows it for base pay. And I’m sure the President knows that the average federal worker pays twice as much for health insurance as what we are asking for in Wisconsin. At least I would hope he knows these facts.

“Furthermore, I’m sure the President knows that we have repeatedly praised the more than 300,000 government workers who come to work every day in Wisconsin.

“I’m sure that President Obama simply misunderstands the issues in Wisconsin, and isn’t acting like the union bosses in saying one thing and doing another.”

I’m intrigued that Walker is willing to swipe at Obama after the White House decided to retreat from organizing union protests. Presumably he figures that the more he can enlarge the scale of this problem — public-employee unions everywhere bloating budgets and bleeding taxpayers dry — the more sympathy he can stir up at home for tough action on collective bargaining. A public feud with the avatar of bloated government in D.C., whose coming campaign will be bankrolled by PEUs, is a neat shorthand for that.

For your viewing pleasure, here’s Joe Scarborough warning this morning that it seems … “un-American” to deny any group the right to come together and negotiate. Never mind the fact that Walker’s proposal is limited to public employee unions and even then only to benefits (CB for wages would still be legal). He’s right in this sense: It’s really not the unions that are the malfeasors in the little racket they’ve got going. They’re doing precisely what they’re organized to do. It’s the corrupt Democratic mayors and governors, alleged guardians of the public fisc, who are happy to give away the farm in wages and benefits in return for de facto kickbacks in the form of campaign contributions. That’s why Walker is so intent on ending collective bargaining for benefits in lieu of accepting the union’s offer to take a cut in its next contract. If he doesn’t do something structural to change this, the next crooked liberal to succeed him in office will start handing out candy again. Click the image to watch.

Obama’s own campaign website

For the past two days, thousands of workers have been gathering at the State Capitol in Madison, WI, to defend their rights in the workplace. From nurses to police officers, public sector workers and OFA volunteers have been protesting against proposed legislation to take away workers’ rights to bargain collectively. With a vote on the legislation expected as early as today, volunteers are already gathering at the Capitol this morning. It’s going to be a big day in Madison and you can follow updates throughout the day on the OFA Wisconsin Twitter feed.

It seems similarly un-American to deny any person the right to work unless they join a private entity like a union.
And un-American for a government to tell a company or an industry that they *must* deal with a union, even if the union is run horribly or doesn’t mind running the company into the ground.

Hello my name is Barack Hussein Obama esq. I am a community organizer from the quaint village of Chicago. And I am e-mailing you to have you join me in a profitable enterprise called unemployment and poverty for you and good times for me. All you have to do is believe me as I spout about Hope and Change while I rob you blind. This seems fair to me so I am looking forward to hearing from you.

The problem with government unions is the Obamas and liberal governors think they work for the unions and not for the 88 percent of Americans who are not unionized. They are supposed to represent us. Instead they fight for money and bennies for the unions who in turn give money to the Dems.

because the unions aid and abet craptastic work standards (in some areas). Guys that should be fired, stay on forever. I knew a dirtbag at UPS that jacked up left and right, up and down, from one warning and retraining session to another. They’d have to have these ‘moderation meetings’ or something where the union faced off with the supervisors. Homeboy eventually got canned but i think UPS spent a whole lot of coin making it happen.

********************

Thank you, and welcome to Chicago.

It would be naive of me to start without acknowledging what’s been on everyone’s mind during this convention. As America tries to find its way in a global economy, we meet here at a challenging time for the labor movement. There are questions of strategy and tactics, leadership and power. And I can imagine that many of you are anxious not only about labor’s future, but yours. You’re wondering, will I be able to leave my children a better world than I was given? Will I be able to save enough to send them to college or plan for a secure retirement? Will my job even be there tomorrow? Who will stand up for me in this new world?

Isn’t the real problem not collective bargaining, but the collection by the state of mandatory union dues out of each public sector worker’s paycheck and paid directly to the union, then indirectly to Democrat politicians? If the union’s lobbying activities were limited to voluntary contributions only, then the playing field would be more fair and collective bargaining not that big a deal.

I think too much attention is being focus on the collective bargaining and not enough on the more important object of defunding the unions. Defunding would reduce the incestuous relationship between the unions and politicians.

I’m intrigued that Walker is willing to swipe at Obama after the White House decided to retreat from organizing union protests. Presumably he figures that the more he can enlarge the scale of this problem — public-employee unions everywhere bloating budgets and bleeding taxpayers dry — the more sympathy he can stir up at home for tough action on collective bargaining

More importantly – the CORRECT story is on the record and out there for all to see. Keep it up please Governor – every chance you get – everytime one of those MSM-bots sticks a mike in your face……nobody else in the GOP seems to have the balls.

Anyway, Obama looks extra-sick in that photo….puts Waxman to shame…no, not yet.
