Scott Walker responds to Obama: You sound a little like a union boss, you know that?

posted at 7:51 pm on February 28, 2011 by Allahpundit

Oh, now, no he doesn’t. Union bosses are known for making thinly veiled violent threats, like the time his pal Trumka reacted to a strikebreaker being shot dead with a wink-wink about not playing with matches if you don’t want your fingers burned. The One doesn’t say stuff like that; he sits back and lets other people say it, then does his above-the-fray shtick by pleading for civility towards those on his side. Much more nuanced.

Walker’s office issued this statement:

“I’m sure the President knows that most federal employees do not have collective bargaining for wages and benefits while our plan allows it for base pay. And I’m sure the President knows that the average federal worker pays twice as much for health insurance as what we are asking for in Wisconsin. At least I would hope he knows these facts.

“Furthermore, I’m sure the President knows that we have repeatedly praised the more than 300,000 government workers who come to work every day in Wisconsin.

“I’m sure that President Obama simply misunderstands the issues in Wisconsin, and isn’t acting like the union bosses in saying one thing and doing another.”

I’m intrigued that Walker is willing to swipe at Obama after the White House decided to retreat from organizing union protests. Presumably he figures that the more he can enlarge the scale of this problem — public-employee unions everywhere bloating budgets and bleeding taxpayers dry — the more sympathy he can stir up at home for tough action on collective bargaining. A public feud with the avatar of bloated government in D.C., whose coming campaign will be bankrolled by PEUs, is a neat shorthand for that.

For your viewing pleasure, here’s Joe Scarborough warning this morning that it seems … “un-American” to deny any group the right to come together and negotiate. Never mind the fact that Walker’s proposal is limited to public employee unions and even then only to benefits (CB for wages would still be legal). He’s right in this sense: It’s really not the unions that are the malfeasors in the little racket they’ve got going. They’re doing precisely what they’re organized to do. It’s the corrupt Democratic mayors and governors, alleged guardians of the public fisc, who are happy to give away the farm in wages and benefits in return for de facto kickbacks in the form of campaign contributions. That’s why Walker is so intent on ending collective bargaining for benefits in lieu of accepting the union’s offer to take a cut in its next contract. If he doesn’t do something structural to change this, the next crooked liberal to succeed him in office will start handing out candy again. Click the image to watch.

Thanks Walker! Now Obama is busy trying to figure out how to “empower” the federal employees.

Ditto that for all on the left in charge, they see their own Utopia about to disappear and make them actually be part of the governed as opposed the governors. In my mind they that is the real key, they know how they treated people when they were in charge and they don`t want the same treatment. They just cannot understand that the other side wants them to also be productive and prosper because they don`t have the same thoughts!

It is, if they go out on strike against their employers, who happen to be the taxpaying public.

There’s enough slime to go around. They’re all malfeasors.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

Collective bargaining is undemocratic.

Who pays the taxes? The public. Who decides how those taxes should be spent? The only answer is the elected representatives of the people.

NO. ONE. ELSE.

Got it?

And what happens in collective bargaining? Union reps meet with elected representatives as EQUALS. If they don’t agree, it goes to an UNELECTED arbiter.

That’s why it’s wrong. Now one of the fruits of collective bargaining is that the Dems act in collusion with the Union, but that’s not the main problem.

The main problem is that an unelected group has the power to thwart the will of the people in these negotations. They have a say in how MY tax money is spent that goes beyond the ballot box.

Why is that so friggin’s hard to understand?

The union shop is certainly “un-American”: it requires people who do not want “to come together” to be taxed by a private entity.

The prez sez to stop vilifying the union goons, but doesn’t cite any examples of such. However, we can cite examples of his vilifying tea party members, again and again. Gov. Walker is handling this in a professional manner. This just has to work out right for the people of WI.

Sure. Some people perform the duties they were hired to perform admirably. Some people think more about others than themselves ernesto. I know it’s a hard concept for you to understand since you believe in communist propaganda that the “worker” is owed everything.

You know, I sometimes wish you got your way. You guys could kill off your opposition like you do every single time and implement your “workers paradise”.

Oh sure they’d be some resistance fighters here and there but for the most part any opposition would either be dead or resigned to a life under communism … and just like every other communist government it would eventually collapse as the people realize exactly what communism really is and begin to fight back.

All the “workers paradises” around the world have proven to be nothing more than get rich quick schemes for the rulers and beds of misery for the workers.

Let’s do that here! Sounds fantastic!

Alinsky’s rules about the ethics of ends and means.

1. One’s concern with the ethics of means and ends varies inversely with one’s personal interest in the issue.

2. The judgment of the ethics of means is dependent upon the political position of those sitting in judgment.

3. In war the end justifies almost any means.

4. Judgment must be made in the context of the times in which the action occurred and not from any other chronological vantage point.

5. Concern with ethics increases with the number of means available and vice versa.

6. The less important the end to be desired, the more one can afford to engage in ethical evaluations of means.

7. Generally, success or failure is a mighty determinant of ethics.

8. The morality of a means depends upon whether the means is being employed at a time of imminent defeat or imminent victory.

9. Any effective means is automatically judged by the opposition as being unethical.

10. You do what you can with what you have and clothe it with moral garments.

11. Goals must be phrased in general terms like “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity,” “Of the Common Welfare,” “Pursuit of Happiness,” or “Bread and Peace.”
