Walker to Senate Dems: Stop hiding out

posted at 12:15 pm on February 21, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

Scott Walker accused his political opponents in the state Senate of “hiding out” and warned that any negotiation would take place in Madison, not Chicago or Rockford. If Democrats want to negotiate the terms of the bill, the governor told George Stephanopoulos this morning, then the arena for that is in Madison, where those Senators are supposed to be working. And time is running short, because without a budget repair bill by the end of the week, Wisconsin can’t restructure its debt in time to avoid taking a bond-rating hit that will explode the coming budget deficit (via Sharif Durhams at the MJS):

Meanwhile, the union issued a call today to have teachers return to work by tomorrow:

Mary Bell, the president of the Wisconsin Education Association Council, said Sunday that if teachers are not otherwise off on Monday, which is Presidents’ Day, they should report back to the classroom.

If they are off, Bell said they should come to Madison to continue to protest against Gov. Scott Walker’s budget-repair bill.

“It’s time for educators to be back in the classroom with the students,” Bell told reporters in a teleconference.

Later, Bell indicated that educators also should be in the classroom on Tuesday. “We are speaking about Monday and Tuesday,” she said. “I have no idea where things will be next week. But we are saying it is time for educators to be back in the classroom with their students. And it will be a continuing of the actions in Madison in communities around the state and we will continue to speak with our members and we will continue to advocate with legislators and whatever comes next will be determined by the actions we see.”

The state may look for some extra savings by firing teachers who stay out on the wildcat sickout, especially considering the widespread doctors-notes fraud:

Doctors who wrote medical notes over the weekend excusing protesters at the Wisconsin Capitol from work are getting slammed with angry phone calls and profane e-mails from people telling them they deserve to be thrown in jail, one doctor said Sunday.

The physicians wore lab coats Saturday as they stood on a street corner and offered medical notes to the tens of thousands of protesters who paraded past them. The protesters were rallying against a Republican-backed state bill that would eliminate collective bargaining rights for most state workers.

One of the doctors was Lou Sanner, 59, who practices family medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Sanner said he gave out hundreds of notes and that many protesters with whom he spoke seemed to be suffering from stress.

“Some people think it’s a nod-and-a-wink thing but it’s not,” he told The Associated Press on Sunday. “One of the biggest stresses in life is the threat of loss of income, loss of job, loss of health insurance. People have actually been getting ill from this, or they can’t sleep.”

Er, what?  Sanner wants to seriously argue that these teachers were too ill and sleep-deprived to teach their classes, but were perfectly OK to spend hours marching and protesting in cold weather over the same period of time?  Maybe Sanner’s other patients should consider his medical judgment before choosing him to assess their own health.

Looks like there will be massive layoffs up in Wiscy to balance the budget.

I recommend starting with any teacher involved in the strike, any doctor on the payroll writing fake notes such as the ones from U. of Wisconsin med school, and the staffs of the Dem senators who refuse to show up in Madison.

If Dr. Sanner has taken these teachers on as patients, shouldnt ther be tests and evaluatins to confirm his dignosis and Rx to stay away from work? Did he bill these patients? Is there a conflict with taking paymet form his regular patients and not billing patients with Extreamly good coverage? I would think that if he took on these patients and did not do appropriote testing/evaluation then he is neglegent in his professional duties. He should be brought up on ethics charges.

So now that WH has announced they never, NEVER had anything to do with the protests, the unions are asking them to do their jobs? Seriously. What a bunch of loons.

And to the missing Dem legislators…come out, come out, wherever you are (axxhats).

“It’s time for educators to be back in the classroom with the students,” Bell told reporters in a teleconference.

The time for them to be in the classroom has been *EVERY* f-ing day, including last week, nimrod. Protest on your own f-ing time, on your day off, *NOT* when you’re supposed to be at work.

I wrote this in prior blog post:

Just heard an absolutely brilliant idea from caller on Milwaukee talk radio to get the Dem’s back to Madison. So beautiful in its simplicity, it’s brilliant!

Just stop direct deposit. Cut a manual paycheck that they have to come and pick up. In addition, require that Senators have to sign time cards for their staff in order for them to get paid.

“One of the biggest stresses in life is the threat of loss of income, loss of job, loss of health insurance. People have actually been getting ill from this, or they can’t sleep.”

But being outside in the cold protesting and screaming and chanting and imbibing substances and not working all day is good for this condition we call “real life.”

Eh, doc?

Sorry, teachers who missed this last week (unless in the hospital, on death-bed, or on maternity leave) should’ve already been fired.

There are a whole slew of issues regarding documenting medical practice. Any doctor handing out diagnoses without proper paperwork being done is in a lot of trouble. Ironically, there are a lot of federal regulations (from HIPAA on down) at play. If a doctor doesn’t document they’re in compliance…

Hey Wisc Rich – they tried that in Detroit – stopped direct deposit for 2 pay periods to the entire Detroit School Distrcit. Req’d staff to pick up paychecks w/ picture id. More than 500 didn’t show.

Walker needs to start putting out non-budget bills:

Voter ID
Birth cert for candidates (yup, I went there)
Make WI a “right to work” state
Force all unions to allow their political contributions to go to the party of their choice, or opt out of political contributions entirely.
Force unions to collect their own dues (not via the employer)
Require ID for all gov’t benefits.
Tie aid to children’s school attendance (yup, went there too).
Require teachers to pass the high school graduation exam.
Do something to rein in the DNR (D^&% Near Russians) from ruining property values.

I’m sure there’s more, but I just moved here.

If Walker, and the Right follow through on this, in all states…there will be a Conservative landslide like none seen since Reagan-v-Mondale in ’84.

The People, those who actually work and really pay taxes, invest and earn, and employ others to do the same, have had enough of the nanny state and those who are trying to shove the nanny state down our throats.

Beyond the pale. I hope that anyone that is on video participating in this charade, or anyone otherwise proven to have abused their privileges as a licensed Dr. in the State of Wisconsin gets called in front of the licensing authority and held accountable for this unconscionable abuse of their position of trust.

What the h3ll is wrong with folks these days? It’s as if someone came along and told all of the libs that they’ve got a get out of jail free card and free reign to do as they please if it serves their wantonly selfish purposes.

This is sickening to the nth degree. We need a health care reform of a different sort, it seems.

hillbillyjim on February 21, 2011 at 2:17 PM

The fake doctors notes was a collossal blunder by the teachers union. The average citizen’s eyes start the glaze over when the talk is focused on budgets and contracts and deficits; but they do recognize common dishonesty and fraud when they see it.

No matter what the merits of their case might be, teachers have come out of the weekend tainted as frauds and cheats because of this scandal.

Good luck getting your reputation back.

Sixteen senators from Wisconsin

While, Flotus and the Obama girls

A water park for the Senators
and brews at the Tilted Kilt;
Some ancho-chile ribs for ‘Chelle
Washed down with little guilt.

It’s become quite obvious,
It’s plain for all to see;
When the Democrats says sacrifice
They mean for thee, not me.
