Video: Hezbollah starting to work with drug cartels in Mexico?

posted at 6:29 pm on February 21, 2011 by Allahpundit

Oh, now, this can’t be true. Never mind that Hezbollah’s been working for years to establish a presence in the western hemisphere, or that a congressional report from a few years ago claimed that they’ve already tried to use the Mexican border to cross into America. And never mind the report that circulated last summer about a Hezbollah operative being arrested in Tijuana. If all that’s true then conservatives are right about weak borders being a national security risk, and they … simply can’t be right.

My military and Department of Homeland Security contacts are insistent…it’s not if Hezbollah operatives have been smuggled into the U.S….but how many? They note that drug tunnels are becoming much more sophisticated and striking similar as tunnels being used by terror organizations to smuggle weapons into the Gaza Strip. My contacts also say they have real concern that bombing techniques used in the Middle East to promote terror are now also being used inside Mexico, as the cartels war with each other and anyone in their way…

Meantime, over this past weekend President Calderon of Mexico sent a significant number of troops to the border regions and while they are there to help battle the cartels, they have also been sent to deal with the growing connection to Hezbollah. As one contact told me, “Mexico knows the seriousness of a cartel connection with Hezbollah and the threat to their national security.”

The Taliban’s been financing operations via the drug trade for years, and it makes sense that Hezbollah would be interested in a new steady source of income given the risk that their benefactors in Iran might be toppled. But as I say — can’t be true.

Unless there is a terrible terror attack on some left-wing or progressive populated event…the Academy Awards, for example, on live television at that, there will be no serious effort to secure our borders.

All of this Hezzbollah nonsense is nothing but a creation of the Right, trying to implement racist laws in America and trying to prevent impoverished peoples of latin descent from taking advantage of the benefits of the land we stole from them long ago….or so the script seems to read.

But, if there are major casualties among the liberal progressive left…after blaming the Conservatives for the disaster, of course, perhaps there may be movement to implement a common sense approach to securing our borders.

Until then…zip. Business as usual.

These progressives will risk our necks in order to establish a solid Dem voter base in America.

As for Hezbollah…they’ve been here for a long time, and have been in Mexico even longer…and in Latin America to stay. Ask Chavez.

It frosts me so much that this is now being considered news. It has been news for years. Our southern border in particular has been a seive for the most dangerous elements to our national security for too long. Where is the federal leadership in addressing this failure to protect us?

Tzetzes on February 21, 2011 at 6:35 PM

Bad reasoning. If drugs were legal here, what would stop Hezbollah from working with them? As long as Hezbollah gives them money to fight thier rivals, they`ll work with them. Also, legalization would not stop the drug wars there. The cartels aren`t fighting because drugs are illegal here, they`re fighting to be top dog.

They would just sell their drugs for less, or to kids, or the still banned drugs, or if everything was legalized they would sell without the government taxes, or move onto other items. As you said the gangbangers are not going to put on a McDonald’s uniform and ask you if you want your order Supersized!

Which would then put the government in the fine moral position of competing with the gangs as to who can provide drugs to the kids for the lowest price.

This is the problem with the border debate, the Left has decided the entire argument is about racism instead of security and illegal immigration. All sorts of illegal immigrates.

Cindy Munford on February 21, 2011 at 7:31 PM

Maybe if they, you know, Secured the border, we wouldn’t have to worry about this, and as a bonus, the Oppressive-left wouldn’t be able to use the supposed flow of guns into Mexico to eviscerate the 2nd amendment.

I know, secure the border, that’s crazy talk..

Chip on February 21, 2011 at 7:32 PM

Well, when they caught that Hezbollah guy moving 3 tons of pseudo-ephedrine from Canada to Mexico to have a drug gang there make meth for him, you kind of suspected something was up.

Or that couple in LA that were selling grey market goods and had all that Hezbollah stuff in their home.

Or that cigarette smuggling ring in NC that was sending $10 million a year back to Hezbollah…

Say, this stuff is news?

How about that guy who was smuggling illegals over from places like Syria, Lebanon, Iran and other fun places? He operated through Mexico, too.

And those Egyptian jackets with al Qaeda patches on them didn’t just wind up on our side of the border out in the desert by themselves. No whirlwind brought them over here.

The Russians were kind of shocked to have 10 tons of Hezbollah cocain wind up in St. Petersburg. Kind of a little wake-up call for the Russians, there.

Plus that ring selling thefted software out of Brazil operated by a Hezbollah group in the TBA.

And they invested in an Ecuadoran shopping mall. Wonder what they do there…

What?

Doesn’t everybody know this sort of stuff?

At least they aren’t that affiliated with the Albanian car theft ring operating out of Montreal. The Hezzies just use them to get safe houses.

Isn’t it great that we have one of the top Syrian drug and arms traffickers in Club Fed? Works with just about any terror organization, plus Iran/Contra… and a few of Obama’s friends, no doubt. Wonder if he will ‘accidentally’ escape one of these days? Or just get a pardon. Wouldn’t that be fun?

ajacksonian on February 21, 2011 at 7:43 PM

The Hezzy’s are going to be no much for The One’s Smart Power.
Knowing that Obama’s the second term of Jimmah is it possible that all this smart power gets to blow up in the next President’s face such as 9-11?
Another Clinton is involved in all this mastery of international security issues after all.

Drug prohibition has been financing our enemies for decades.

The only way out is to give it up.

But we have “Conservatives” who are easily fooled by words. They believe “prohibited” means “unavailable” when it actually means “distributed by criminals”.

And then there is medicine:

This has been known for a long time. While in Iraq I met several Iraqis that were trying to save money for a plane ticket to mexico to ultimately get into the US through the border. Some of them started disappearing and, when asked, their friends mentioned that they “left for America”.
