The IRS is Hiring in Preparation for ObamaCare Implementation

posted at 8:10 pm on February 16, 2011 by John Sexton

Paul Bedard writing for US News:

The Internal Revenue Service says it will need an battalion of 1,054 new auditors and staffers and new facilities at a cost to taxpayers of more than $359 million in fiscal 2012 just to watch over the initial implementation of President Obama’s healthcare reforms. Among the new corps will be 81 workers assigned to make sure tanning salons pay a new 10 percent excise tax. Their cost: $11.5 million…

In its request, the IRS explained that the tax changes associated with health reform are huge. “Implementation of the Affordable Care Act of 2010 presents a major challenge to the IRS. ACA represents the largest set of tax law changes in more than 20 years, with more than 40 provisions that amend the tax laws.”

Unsaid: The requests are just the beginning, since the new healthcare program is evolving and won’t be fully implemented until about 2014.

Of course this is a lot less than the 16,000 agents many people were talking about last year. That was a GOP marketing number (similar to the 47 million uninsured the Democrats kept talking about). Then again, as Bedard points out this is just the beginning. No doubt next year’s budget request will show a similar, if not larger, hiring binge at the IRS.

And so the Obama Administration’s thumbing of the nose at the Federal Judge’s ruling that Obamacare is unconstitutional, null and void continues…

81 workers just to police tanning salons, at a total cost of 11.5 million?

That’s almost $142,000 per employee. Even with a full benefits package factored into that cost, you’re talking a six-figure salary for these oxygen thieves.

CurtZHP on February 16, 2011 at 8:19 PM

IRS Brown Shirts are coming. Actually that is not that many; but you know how incrementalism works folks.

And to think – our country started out because of taxes.

Hey, 4 stars.

Start bringing all troops overseas back home.

They’re going to be needed here at home to either invade DC (with the people) or defend DC (from the people).

Why not, he’s thumbing his nose at the judge who ruled this Administration was in contempt of court over the moratorium on drilling for oil.

What’s the big deal///

ObamaCare, having been decided to be unconstitutional, is null and void as to the 26 or so states who filed the federal action in Florida. What that means, effectively, is the law is treated as if never passed, at least as to the plaintiff states.

What I cannot fathom is why the lawyers representing those states have not gone back to the judge seeking a contempt of court order. Yes, it would devolve unto Obama’s DOJ to seek enforcement of that order, against themselves — so that won’t happen — but the message that would be sent would have considerable implications on the political battlefield over repealing or defunding ObamaCare.

Will the tanning bed excise tax even raise 11.5 million a year? It seems to me we won’t get any bang for the buck. But then again that’s what Ivy League Schools are all about all bucks no bang.

I hope the judge who ruled Obamacare unconstitutional charges and jails all of them for contempt of court. How dare Obama ignore the court and press ahead with implementing this budget killing boondoggle? Even worse, the GOP is treating Obamacare as though it’s still valid law. It’s not.

Why do all “liberal” goals require the power of the state to implement and enforce?

Why, if “liberals” are so concerned about people having health insurance … don’t they simply form a health insurance company and offer cheap insurance? Liberals can even subsidize some of the cost for low income through donations because we all know how much liberals care and how generous they are with their own money.
