Video: The greatest quarterback of all time

posted at 10:10 pm on February 9, 2011 by Allahpundit

In just one day on YouTube, he’s at 300,000+ views and is already being noticed by NBC Sports. Given that he’s a third-stringer — for UConn — it’s safe to assume that this guy is not, in fact, the greatest QB ever to suit up. But if the game were played with no defense on the field? And instead of throwing to receivers, you had to throw at plastic cups? Legend.

I’m trying to think of a baseball analog — say, a pitcher who was famous for a unique ability yet somehow not really able to hack it in competitive play. Let’s call him … the Steve Dalkowski of college football.

no it’s stupid… editing means it could have taken him days weeks or years to get all the shots. if you want to impress me, do it on command.

If they put a Steeler uniform on him and he threw consistently to the Packers, he’d be as good as Rapesahamburger.

The kid is having fun…

… let him enjoy his fifteen minutes.

Seven Percent Solution on February 9, 2011 at 10:22 PM

So, if he’s the Dalkowski of football, he’ll be a washed up drunk pretty soon.

Good Solid B-Plus on February 9, 2011 at 10:22 PM

Good clean fun, from a couple of college kids. Good for them!

How refreshing to see something like this from the rest of the crap we see being posted on YouTube.

It’s true that you don’t know how many misses there were, but still, pretty impressive!

That was pretty fun to watch. Wonder how long it took him to hit all the shots.

El_Terrible on February 9, 2011 at 10:38 PM

Maybe he can throw a football at Keith Olbermann…

blatantblue on February 9, 2011 at 10:39 PM

He looks led he’s around 5’10″ and maybe 165-70 lbs. He doesn’t have the height & size for QB, even at UCONN. That’s more than likely why he’s 3rd-string.

Nice! Yeah, I had him as my starting QB in fantasy football one year…didn’t do too well.

Jeff George might have something to say about it this too though.

laurakbarr on February 9, 2011 at 11:30 PM

Some of the shots would be really hard to do, even with retries, simply because there are multiple throws done with no cut between. That’s evidence that he can do it on command.

However, I’m going with special effects: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnxIITeNftE

He’s a good shot!

But someone get a him a camera and camera operator that and who does not suck!

tx2654 on February 9, 2011 at 11:34 PM

The blind fold ones are just timing. Not too difficult if you know your receiver. The rest are pretty amazing.

Of course it’s fake. Just like Meadowlark Lemmon, who used to do a halfcourt hook shot with a swish. Several times a game. Yup. Those were some pretty good fakes, Mr. Lemmon.

Tennman on February 10, 2011 at 12:05 AM

According to my dad, the Packer fan, Brett Favre once hit the pylon at the end zone in the middle of an interview, right on top, from the 50-yard-line.

While these feats are impressive, they say nothing for in-game, huge 350lb lineman running at you accuracy.

jimmy the notable on February 10, 2011 at 12:29 AM

Pffft! I could do that.

American Elephant on February 10, 2011 at 12:52 AM

wonderfully entertaining. this would have been a much better half-time show than the Black Eyed Peas. this guy has a future in the nfl I’ll bet. DD

Good grief…no wonder Maddoff made stole conned so much money…

right2bright on February 10, 2011 at 7:48 AM

The 3rd string quarterback is at UConn. Steve Dalkowski now lives in Connecticut……Coincidence?

I think not!

olesparkie on February 10, 2011 at 8:05 AM

At 3:35 I wanted to see him throw a football through the window of that SUV. Darn! /rabid environmentalist

Maybe this was fake or edited 2000 times. But the fact that his friends never flinched was pretty impressive tho — unless you’re claiming every throw of the football was digitally done.

inviolet on February 10, 2011 at 8:10 AM

Very impressive! It made me smile. Seems he has the fundamentals for QB down. That is something to build upon. Kurt Warner is not a big guy, but he does wear a Superbowl ring.Size is not everything.

IowaWoman on February 10, 2011 at 8:30 AM

That was fun. Editing or not, I could try all day and not make 90% of those shots.

pugwriter on February 10, 2011 at 8:43 AM

TugboatPhil on February 10, 2011 at 9:04 AM

Given that he’s a third-stringer — for UConn — it’s safe to assume that this guy is not, in fact, the greatest QB ever to suit up. But if the game were played with no defense on the field? And instead of throwing to receivers, you had to throw at plastic cups? Legend.

Maybe he’s only a freshman, and trying to impress the coach (or cheerleaders) with his accuracy, hitting cups or baskets under a dome.

It would be worth giving him a tryout, using a cold, wet football with 250-lb linemen in his face trying to clobber him, and see what he can do.

But you never know–sometime in the next decade, when Tom Brady starts throwing like Brett Favre, this guy might take his place.

Steve Z on February 10, 2011 at 9:07 AM

Given that he’s a third-stringer — for UConn — it’s safe to assume that this guy is not, in fact, the greatest QB ever to suit up.

Maybe he’s just short.

Count to 10 on February 10, 2011 at 9:18 AM

Regardless of how many tries it takes for some of those shots, it is impressive. He is definitely accurate and and some arm strength. Of course, people need to realize that there is A LOT more to being a QB than throwing accurracy. Probably the most important thing is being able to read a defense and make audibles as well as making the smart throws. On the other hand being accurate is always a nice to have.

It is kinda like saying some guy would make a great WR or CB because he he super fast.

jeffn21 on February 10, 2011 at 9:23 AM

Allah the correct baseball analog is “Sidd Finch” as told by the late & great George Plimpton.

Tom66 on February 10, 2011 at 9:36 AM

Wayne Brady wants to be just like Johnny?

CaptainObvious on February 10, 2011 at 9:44 AM

Big deal. Aaron Rodgers does that all of the time and with a 275 lb. Steeler linebacker bearing down him. Check out a couple passes to Greg Jennings of SB XLV if you want to see some sweet passes thrown into a window that was only inches wide and only open for a fraction of a second.

Jennings Burns the Steelers

oh, and here’s a “trick” pass from A-Rodg:

Aaron Rodgers, Nothing But Net

Aaron Rodgers, long will your exploits be told among the camp fires of my people.

Christian Conservative on February 10, 2011 at 10:16 AM

The kid has skills obviously, but who knows how many takes it took him to get each shot.

AlexB on February 10, 2011 at 10:57 AM

This video sure brought out the Debbie Downers. Perhaps AP’s lachrymosity is contagious, or maybe a bunch of you are just whiny losers.

Great work Johnny Mac.

motionview on February 10, 2011 at 11:55 AM

The best one was hitting the goalposts with 3 balls all in the same shot. I don’t think this was faked, and doing 3 in a row, no matter how many takes it took, is still impressive. Wonder if he can shoot a basketball as well as he can throw a football through the hoops?

Snidely Whiplash on February 10, 2011 at 12:22 PM
