Video: Why we’ll miss Robert Gibbs

posted at 3:35 pm on February 8, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

Robert Gibbs will depart his position as press secretary in the Obama White House, where Politico argues that he left an indelible stamp by being true to himself. Who exactly is Robert Gibbs?  Actually, we still don’t know, but as Don Rumsfeld would appreciate, we have a lot fewer unknown unknowns than we did two years ago.  Here’s a replay of Gibbs’ greatest hits, or greatest misses, depending on your perspective:

I’ll miss him terribly because he so aptly portrayed the inept Obama administration.

Poor Baghdad Bobby Gibbs. No respect. But then, he was never in the same class as Tony Snow. Like Barry, Bobby doesn’t know the meaning of the word “class”.

I will miss Gibbs because he always reminded me of the Stay Puft marshmallow man, and I love marshmallows.

Bishop on February 8, 2011 at 3:39 PM

As funny as that video is, the only person in this administration I would miss LESS in IWonWTF.

ORconservative on February 8, 2011 at 3:40 PM

I’ve never watched more than 3 consecutive seconds of this turd doing his job (or not doing his job, whatever). I can’t really say that I’ll miss him because I’ve almost completely ignored him for over 2 years.

joejm65 on February 8, 2011 at 3:41 PM

Dude’s only got two suits. But then I heard he doesn’t get paid a lot…

Pink or white?
Fortunata on February 8, 2011 at 3:44 PM

White, preferably shaped like bunny Peeps and covered in sugar.

Bishop on February 8, 2011 at 3:47 PM

How many times did he say “I’ll get back to you on that….” during the last 2+ years? Quite a few, IIRC. I wonder if he has followed up on all of his can-kicking-down-the-road statements meant to placate the press questions. Not that they were hard questions, but, y’know…..

ted c on February 8, 2011 at 3:48 PM

Sounds like HotAir loses their easy posts … Fun while it lasted, but proves even the best must end.

Maybe he can be a HuffPo spokesman.

He’ll be sent over to the streets in Egypt, claiming “There are no tanks in Cairo!”

And thus completes the cycle.

That is awesome. He looks like a televangelist.

Just as honest, I suppose.

Ha ha….check out the video at about 1:14…..is that Helen Thomas sleeping?

He plays “Rick” in the new GEICO commercials.

Well done, Bobby.

Who is this “we” you speak of? I fully expect him to be replaced by the same or worse.

SKYFOX on February 8, 2011 at 4:09 PM

The only way that could be a resume enhancing speech would be if the person accepting his resume was even more not.

I am pretty sure we all know what he isn’t and what he is.

Cindy Munford on February 8, 2011 at 4:19 PM

One of the things I’m worried about is that they will actually get someone who is good at this job to do it.

I’m afraid they will learn to message their agenda.

I should have more faith in the American people than this but there you are.

I heard Obama in the campaign and he was much better than he is now. What if that guy shows up again and they have a competent press secretary.

That is the stuff of nightmares.

+1. Much as I hated Gibbs’s smug expression and snarky remarks, they were part of what brought about the massive defeat of Democrats in November. This guy was the face of the White House, and he made the Obama administration look like a bunch of know-it-all jerks. I’m worried, as you are, that they’ll replace him with someone who has an ounce of humility and likeability.

Caiwyn on February 8, 2011 at 4:42 PM

Fat, pink, balding, stupid, stuffy nosed nothing.

Two years ago we got to look at and listen to Dana Perino every time the press went to the White House.

Sigh…

Jaibones on February 8, 2011 at 4:44 PM

I will miss Andy Gibb because he was the greatest Bee Gee.

MadisonConservative on February 8, 2011 at 3:54 PM

I hate to break it to you, but Andy Gibb wasn’t a Bee Gee. He was their little brother.

Caiwyn on February 8, 2011 at 4:42 PM

Yeah. In this particular job and for this particular administration, incompetent/jerky beats competent/pleasant any day of the week. The more the press dislikes the person in the position, the better.

Carney is a partisan for sure, but he was borderline likable on McLaughlin IIRC.

Missy on February 8, 2011 at 4:56 PM

Gibbs was perfect for Obama. He had that stupid clueless can’t answer a question act down pat!

Anybody know what a 403 Forbidden Error is? My previous post was eaten and I got that…

CCRWM on February 8, 2011 at 4:58 PM

I won’t miss this plick – couldn’t stand him – guess he finally got tired of trying to polish THE turd. . . .

karra on February 8, 2011 at 5:02 PM

DAMMIT JIM!

rihar on February 8, 2011 at 5:05 PM

Gibbs isn’t going away, per se, he’s going to work on Zero’s re-election campaign…

CCRWM on February 8, 2011 at 5:05 PM

The man’s got a lot of ties, I’ll say that much for him.

rihar on February 8, 2011 at 5:10 PM

His lips moved a lot, but he never said a thing. His smarmy, smug evasive answers characterize everything that is wrong with government today.

It would be great to get Gibbs or any of the similar Lamestream Media talking heads on camera with a real everyday person from out here on the ground. It would great to see him stumble with our much harder questions and just how little respect most Americans have for his obtuse, evasive and uninformative disposition.

That clip was great. In fact before I saw your post, I was thinking that Gibbs’ above clip would be a lot funnier if before every example you picture him saying, “Damnit Jim, I’m a doctor, not a …”

DrAllecon on February 8, 2011 at 5:25 PM

I think it would be appropriate for Gibbsie to leaving while” Jive Talkin” performed by the Brothers Gibb(Bee Gees) plays in the background.

DrAllecon on February 8, 2011 at 5:25 PM

I hear ya pal. I looked for something like that but couldn’t find it.

rihar on February 8, 2011 at 5:32 PM

So, we will find out who Gibbs is by finding out what he is not…sort of a process of elimination. Goofy.

Blaise on February 8, 2011 at 5:58 PM

I won’t miss him at all. He’s only allowed to speak to me filtered through HA and a few other sites. I’ve never listened to a single word he’s said. The minute I see him or his boss the Jug-Eared Jesus start to open their mouths I hit the mute button, change the channel, or turn it off. Good riddance!

Like the guy in the diner in the commercial I just saw…

“I’m just a guy who (I forget this part)… and likes pie.”

Mr_Magoo on February 8, 2011 at 7:18 PM

Are we there yet?

Fortunata on February 8, 2011 at 9:49 PM

A little OT but since nobody else has asked, I gotta!

Go back and review the clip: How many times did we see Helen Thomas sound asleep in the front row?

I count at least two…..

Vntnrse on February 8, 2011 at 11:49 PM

I don’t usually notice these things but the best part was Helen Thomas sleeping in the front row at about 1:15!
