Videos: Sneak peek at Super Bowl commercials

posted at 7:24 pm on February 4, 2011 by John Sexton

For some of us the experience of the Superbowl is as much about watching the clever, often funny, commercials as it is about the game. Enjoy this sneak peek at couple of ads scheduled to air Sunday. First up, what looks like an ordinary car dealership commercial:

Not bad. This next one is pretty brilliant. No dialogue, just a familiar mask and a bit of John Williams’ Imperial March:

If you need more, they’re here.

I hope there are no talking baby ads. I really hate those.

rbj on February 4, 2011 at 7:27 PM

wow. with everything going on… you can’t put up anything other than superbowl commercials?

I actually have to admit.. I MISS ALLAH!

it is going to bit me in the butt.

upinak on February 4, 2011 at 7:29 PM

I LOVE the talking baby!

obviously not here!

These were great. Loved the little Darth Vader.

Me too, but they’ve been doing a great job. Jazz Shaw has been on fire the past two days.

John the Libertarian on February 4, 2011 at 7:33 PM

Nothing wrong with posting Super Bowl ads… good stuff. The kid vader cracks me up.

DaveS on February 4, 2011 at 7:34 PM

So far the Talking Baby vote is:

Ya 1
Na 1

I’ll keep score as this could have repercussions in the GeoPolitical Sphere.

John the Libertarian on February 4, 2011 at 7:33 PM

and yet today.. with wikileaks saying Obama and flunkies sold trident codes to the Russians for the “START Treaty” and no on is covering that. No are they covering the attempt on the Egyptian VP’s life… nothing. Just crap today.

I know it’s friday and superbowl is around the corner.. but good grief!

upinak on February 4, 2011 at 7:36 PM

All too frequently, the ads are better than the game…

Gohawgs on February 4, 2011 at 7:36 PM

I to am wonder about Mr. Pundit but I am pretty sure he would have liked the commercials and shared them with us.

Cindy Munford on February 4, 2011 at 7:37 PM

Maybe AP has a date?

rbj on February 4, 2011 at 7:38 PM

Are AP and Ed merely taking some time off, or is the current crop of room-temperature Groan Room punditlets the Wave of the Future?

If the latter, might be time for a second look at Charles Johnson….

MrScribbler on February 4, 2011 at 7:40 PM

upinak on February 4, 2011 at 7:36 PM

There were a couple of START posts in headlines — didn’t get a chance to read them yet.

Ever since they put in the salary cap, the Super Bowls have been pretty good games, though.

JtL,

Unless the Cowboys are representing the NFC it’s not a super BOWL…Having said that, go Bart Starr and the Packers…

Gohawgs on February 4, 2011 at 7:48 PM

I like the insurance company ‘mayhem’ ads.

slickwillie2001 on February 4, 2011 at 7:49 PM

The Cowboys will have a good next season.

John the Libertarian on February 4, 2011 at 7:51 PM

Three theories as to the whereabouts of Mr Pundit.

1. Entered rehab. Too many Appletini binges in one week.

2. Someone stole his identity. He now has to walk around without a bag over his head until the culprit is found. Should have gotten LifeLock.

3. Had a little fling with a Mafia Boss’s daughter. He is now tied up in the trunk of a car headed for the Meadowlands.

Geochelone on February 4, 2011 at 7:54 PM

Thanks for posting about the Super Bowl commercials, John. I think they’re great!

Well, yeah, but I like to drop in here once in a while to get the squishy “let’s be fair” spin and watch Palin fanboyz’ heads ‘splode whenever someone questions her divinity.

My Life With Kittehs.

John the Libertarian on February 4, 2011 at 7:59 PM

Remember a couple of years ago, there was one with a 12 year old boy in a car that took off and was flying all over the place. Then it stopped and a car with a 12 year old girl pulled up and smiled at him and they both took off.

The nannyjerks whined that it was dangerous because it gave children the idea that they could drive as fast as they wanted to in their flying cars or something. These people are nuts.

Cindy Munford on February 4, 2011 at 7:56 PM

Well he did until someone stole his identity. If he continued the practice then the authorities wouldn’t know if it was him or the culprit (since now there are two guys with bags over their heads). Anyway that’s how the joke unfolded in my twisted mind.

Your mileage may vary and I am quite sure sure your odometer readings are more stable than mine. Hehe :)

It’s tough to be Allahpundit. And we don’t want to talk about my odometer.

Cindy Munford on February 4, 2011 at 8:08 PM

APB for AP!

First, check all NYC jails. Next, all YMCA locations. Then, the mani-pedi salons. Oh, and all Starbucks and Apple stores.

Forget the gun shops and shooting ranges, the sports bars, and any NASCAR tracks or facilities. Waste of time.

I don’t think this one will make it to the broadcast.

German all the way, baby!

No more American cars for me.

madmonkphotog on February 4, 2011 at 8:42 PM

Both VW ads were great. The rest were either boring or annoying.
BTW, I’m no shill for VWs. I’m a Honda guy.

Budweiser’s “http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JI3Y1auTFpU” is probably my all-time favorite to date.

Budweiser’s “Swear Jar” is probably my all-time favorite to date.

Lighten up my friend. Sometimes it’s ok to have a laugh to keep world events from driving you insane. There’s enough space dedicated here to the crappy things happening around us. And it really has nothing to do with SuperBowl. As Mr. Sexton called them…palate cleansers.
