Video: Breitbart updates the Pigford story; Update: Video fixed

posted at 8:48 am on January 31, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

On Saturday while at the Americans for Prosperity conference in San Diego, I got a few minutes to talk to Andrew Breitbart about the story and the scandal of the Pigford settlements. It’s a very complicated story, as Andrew explains in this 20-minute interview just before an hour-long presentation to the conference, which has made it difficult for some to follow. His efforts at Big Journalism have turned up a slew of documents and depositions from an earlier FBI probe into the Pigford I and Pigford II settlements, and Andrew says he has evidence — on video and audio — that shows a great deal of fraud in pursuing the cl.ass action against the USDA. The people who wound up suffering were those black farmers who actually suffered discrimination and “torture” (Andrew’s word), and who are all but cut out of the money as a result of efforts to turn this into a cash cow.

Who benefits from this? Andrew explains, and also says that the story will be breaking wide open in the coming days. Be sure to watch this all the way through.

Update: Eyeblast seems to have failed to generate a usable embed. I’ve broken it into two parts and uploaded it to YouTube instead. (Dailymotion stinks on ice, where they insist on having users “CLICK HERE TO PUBLISH” and never finishing the process.)

Ummm, I’m getting Video Not Available when I try and watch it. However I know the Hillbuzz boys have been on this for a good long time now.

It’s time. It needs to be laid out and told as a story with a beginning, a middle, and an end. Corruption’s finest hour. The swamp needs to be drained and cleaned out and not by Democrats.

Compared to Obama? Hillary would be several orders of magnitude better. I personally don’t like her and wouldn’t vote for her, but the phrase ‘lesser of two evils’ comes to mind. Nowadays the hillbuzz boys are in Palin’s camp anyways.

Edunai on January 31, 2011 at 8:59 AM

The ‘boyz’ at Hillbuzz have been following this story for a long time. They think this will be the downfall of the clown and his posse. We shall see. I for one will pray that they are correct.

A similar thing occurred in Australia, a few years ago. Similar corruption, and NO blowback, because of race.

OldEnglish on January 31, 2011 at 9:05 AM

Yeah, this is a real shame. The actual farmers in this case (ie those who try to make a living on farms instead of those who just thought about it) got a pittance from this settlement.

OldEnglish on January 31, 2011 at 9:05 AM

Big difference here though. Legitimate black farmers were truly hurt while black activists and Democrats exploited it. Some even used the dreaded “r” word (reparations!) when getting others to file fraudulent claims.

I have anxiously awaiting this for quite a while. I can’t wait to see the whole story.
The claim (I’m sure it is fact) that the original farmers got screwed really has my interest peaked. How sad for them.
Something needs to bring down this clown and posse, they make teflon obsolete.

Biased editing isn’t limited to Breitbart. The media engages in it every day. I think a theme for Breitbart has been to fight fire with fire and use their own methods against them. You may not agree with that, but in general I think the recent adoption by the right of methods usually employed by the left has been successful.

Breitbart told the story of how the Sherrod story came out the way it did. I thought at the time and I think even more after reading this. Instead of being TOO FAR ahead of the story Obama and his gang won’t even respond when he comes back with another story. Brietbart will be miles ahead of the Liberals and their efforts at damage control will be meaningless by the time they acknowledge the next thing Brietbart finds. Once again I always thought Sherrod was an ace in his pocket because NOW people like you try and dismiss EVERYTHING he says which is your own funeral because you can’t accept that Sherrod was really just some sloppiness on his part and NOT a full fledge scam from start to finish. Don’t bet the gang at CPAC are going to have liberal blinders on when he presents this. This IS going forward.

When I first caught this last year, I thought of these other two shakedowns:

Denny’s in 1994 … $54,000,000 plus sensitivity training and advertisting
Texaco in 1997 … $176,000,000

To me it’s shameful. It’s like Erin Brokovich or silicone breast implants. Lawyers and others see a payday and then ride that money train to the end of the line.

Paul-Cincy on January 31, 2011 at 10:25 AM

Complicated? Why keep overthinking the scam?

It’s simple – Some bad things happened quite a while ago, and scumbags with the ability to do so have extorted a pile of money from people that had basically nothing to do with it, and made it easy for people that were likely also not directly affected to grab the extorted money for re-distribution.

A scam. Dressed up in faux moral outrage. To benefit made up categories of winners and losers.

Extortion. Using other people’s money.

Chicanery.

I have to disagree with the Sherrod incident. AB was up front when he said it was a racist statement given at a NAACP event. He made no accusation that Sherrod hadn’t overcome her racism and helped some whiteys. The story morphed from a woman making a racist statement at a NAACP event to is Sherrod a racist, and that wasn’t AB point. The forgiveness that followed was also an indictment of liberals, and how only a liberal can make a racist statement and be forgiven.

The Sherrod tape was not an indictment of Sherrod. It was an indictment of the NAACP. The fact that the audience showed approval of Ms. Sherrod’s statements before she shared her “revelation” was the point Breitbart was making. I held out the same stubborn hope for eight years under Clinton. The Resolution Trust scandal, Johnny Chung, Riaddy Brothers, Whitewater, Web Hubbel hush money, Buddhist temple fundraisings, Lorel satellites to China… any one of which would have finished off a republican.

Never happened. And won’t happen. Media won’t permit it. There will never be a major, non-sexual scandal bringing down a leftist president. There will only be the catastrophe of his mismanagement to mobilize voters — and even that will be fought tooth and nail by the media.

As long as Obama doesn’t have illicit sex that leads to a stained dress or a girl with a pushy friend urging her not to wash it (and he could probably even get away with this), he has no worries about a scandal.

it’s a bad idea.

How the he11 would any of us know about Pigford if not for the untrustworthy Breibart, given that the Mainstrem F#&king Media has been conspicuously silent on the matter? The MFM know that if they get their layers of fact checkers on the story, it will make the Boy Dunder look bad, and they just cannot have that.

As Chatlie Gibson would say, with some truthfulness: Pigford? Never heard of it!

Like Obama supporters.

Providing a service that people need/want and are willing to pay for makes one a “whore”. Typical Leftist economic perspective.

I’m still waiting to hear about the “lies” in the ACORN videos.

MikeZero on January 31, 2011 at 12:12 PM

I hope everyone got my sarcasm without the /s. :(. How bout this: Trolls are bad and this one sounds like something out of old East Germany or current Cuba.
Way to go Breitbart. Thanks for doing the investigative work no one in the old “media” will.

While audiculous is Googling like mad (to no good end), I’ve got stuff to do. I’ll check back in a few hours and see what he’s come up with.

Do you still consider yourself to be a moderate Conservative?

And if so, Why don’t you tell us all what sort of belief system you have that makes this the case?

Chip on January 31, 2011 at 12:31 PM

Exactly, the story isn’t AB it is Pigford.

When you can’t attack the message (because it’s the truth) – attack the messenger.

Solaratov on January 31, 2011 at 12:44 PM

If you are a Christian, you can’t trust Breitbart.

True_King on January 31, 2011 at 10:11 AM

Who, exactly, appointed you the arbiter of “true Christian’ belief?
Simply adopting a pretentious ‘nom de blog’ doesn’t automatically confer that authority.
Perhaps you should examine, again, the true nature of Christianity.

Solaratov on January 31, 2011 at 12:49 PM

I can’t understand why anyone would not want the pigford case exposed. I would love an explanation for that. Unless you are a “black farmer” who was not a farmer involved but received reparations (which we understand you think are owed to you) there is absolutely no demographic that should want this covered up.
