Hey, this would be a great time to grab some guns

posted at 3:45 pm on January 28, 2011 by Jazz Shaw

Never let a good crisis go to waste. I’ve lost track of the number of articles I’ve written at Hot Air warning against the loss of gun rights following rampages by maniacs, but this seems to be pretty much right on schedule.

A top House Republican rejected calls by Democrats for hearings on gun safety in the wake of the Jan. 8 shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), suggesting that such hearings could interfere with the prosecution of the alleged gunman, Jared Loughner.

Rep. John Conyers (Mich.), top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, and 15 other Democrats on the panel sent a letter to Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) on Friday seeking hearings on several gun-safety issues related to the Tucson shooting.

This comes under the same banner we’ve seen before. “We don’t want to take away your guns! Perish the thought! We just want some sensible restrictions.” It will take the form of reduced magazine size. Or perhaps one of any other number of cookies in the basket we’ve seen following every tragic incident like this.

The lyrics may change, but the tune stays the same. The new Congress is far from perfect, but in this case let’s give a tip of our hat to Lamar Smith for not falling in line with a media surge and being pushed into drastic action for short term political gain. If nothing else, Congress should take a clue from the fact that gun sales among law abiding citizens who legally purchase and register their weapons tend to rise after such an incident. They’re not worried about the criminals… they’re worried about Congress.

A primer for all:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Another piece of information:

–verb (used with object)
1. to commit a breach or infraction of; violate or transgress: to infringe a copyright; to infringe a rule.
–verb (used without object)
2. to encroach or trespass (usually fol. by on or upon ): Don’t infringe on his privacy.
Use infringed in a Sentence
See images of infringed
Search infringed on the Web

——————————————————————————–

Origin:
1525–35; < L infringere to break, weaken, equiv. to in- in-2 + -fringere, comb. form of frangere to break

I do not know why this is so hard for anyone to udnerstand.
All of these laws restricting gun ownership in some way is INFRINGING upon our right to bear arms.
Some of you are perfectly happy kibbitzing over the size of the weapon, magazine, how many rounds it will shoot, hold, yadda yadda yadda.
And it ALL is INFRINGEMENT of that right.
The notion that the slippery slope means nothing & that no one is trying to take away your right to own a gun, would do well to remember the infringement of other rights, such as property rights in particular through regulatory agencies like the EPA & Acts like the ESA.
Our rights are increasingly INFRINGED at every turn.
And liberals & RINOs would like to label this as paranoia, & yet, the proof is there for us all to see.
It is what the govt does best. Take away rights & amass power.

In order to get one in my town, which I am working on right now, I have to write an essay to the chief of police stating exactly why I want one and deserve to be allowed one.
The fact that my record is immaculate, both of my grandparents were officers in my town and my uncle was the fire chief has no bearing on the decision.

What really is stunning is that the House Judiciary Committee has made a charge that 1.6 million mentally disqualified gun owners slipped through the NICS checks. Where did they get that number, who is making the diagnoses, and why are mental health records being investigated by the HJC, under whose direction?

There are no “law abiding citizens,” i.e. everyone breaks the law. Unequal Laws are the problem. Some laws get listed as “Traffic” laws…even though speeding kills and jaywalking leads to death. Cheating on taxes usually gets a slap on the wrist, unless you’re famous. Shoplifting and smoking a joint…just misdemeanors. All my right have been restored (16 years ago), except gun ownership because of a law listed as a felony. If the Left really wants to take away gun ownership, then they should make the breaking of any law a felony.

I couldn’t hit the cans, either, was never sure if I was shooting to the left, right, up, or below the target!! :) I live in a smaller city condo now in the Midwest. fourdeucer on January 28, 2011 at 5:55 PM

Karen, in that instance, I think a revolver would probably be one of the better first purchaces. You just keep rounds in the cylinder, it’s extremely safe, and no need to worry about a safety to switch off when under stress in an emergency. And they almost never malfunction like some autos do, like misfeed, or jam.

Not sure where you are, but some gun stores/ranges will have “rental” guns you can try out before you make a major purchase. For most, .38Special is a decent round, and fairly controllable. MrsJL has one, has never really been a gun person, but can handle it well and likes it.

JamesLee on January 28, 2011 at 5:55 PM

Karen, you can check out this video. The basic idea is the a gun that chambers a large calibre round or the ability to use the pistol like a small shotgun.

The very same adults who have driven us into utter financial ruin.
The very same adults who spend money in a frenzied orgy.
The very same adults who wish to whittle away at our right to bear arms until it is meaningless.
The very same adults who want to ‘take care’ of us by taking everything from us.
Those adults.
