Beck goes nuclear – blasts Chris Matthews over balloon-head comment on Michele Bachmann

posted at 12:25 pm on January 28, 2011 by The Right Scoop

I have been waiting for this all week long. It’s so gut wrenching to hear Chris Matthews go on and on about Michele Bachmann, using his platform to deride her in such a condescending way. Well now Glenn Beck has stepped up to the plate to deliver a very impassioned defense (and that’s putting it mildly) of Michele Bachmann, blasting Chris Matthews for being a victim of his own incompetence.

An instant classic!

You make a good point. Respectfully, actually at that
point there were no non slave states. All the colonies had slavery. The Northern colonies just had many, many fewer slaves. It wasn’t nearly as profitable up north. The Northern “non slave” states made slavery profitable through the African slave trade. The New England economy was based on it. The fortunes that financed the industrial revolution were made from the slave trade.

Glenn is right. The three fifths clause was put in the Constitution by people AGIANST slavery. It’s an anti-slavery position that weakens the power of the slave states in the House of Representatives and in the Electoral College. Of course, it would have been even better if it wasn’t the 3/5th clause but the 1/10th or even 1/100th clause. But such thinking is beyond Chrissy’s level of comprehension. In fact, I wonder if he realizes that he’s making a pro-slavery statement? Way to go champ.

It’s not just a lack of facts.

It’s a lack of understanding how humankind as changed in understanding of what it means to be human.

Those changes are directly traced to our founders putting down in words truth about the value of human life that they were not yet able to live up to themselves.

The ideas were put forth and the path illuminated by the Constitution of the United States.

But now because they couldn’t step out of their own time and their own culture and just stop slavery immediately they get no credit at all for putting us on a trajectory to complete political equality including all races!

Why doesn’t Matthews get angry at Johnson because he didn’t make MLK his Vice-President? What a racist!

JimP on January 28, 2011 at 1:16 PM

What a smack down.

John the Libertarian on January 28, 2011 at 1:18 PM

The 3/5 clause has only an indirect bearing on the Electoral College, and that is only incidental to the reason the abolitionists fought for it. The direct impact was on the census, to limit the number of people the slave owners could count in their districts, and therefore the distribution of Congressional Representatives.

If the slaves were counted fully, the slave owners’ representation in Congress would increase, making abolition more difficult. The abolitionists wanted the slaves to not be counted as citizens at all, of course, as the best hope in turning the tide to getting them free. But the brilliant founding fathers also knew that stonewalling on that point would result in a new war, with the foundling country still recovering from the Revolution. They considered it a wise and measured compromise to keep the southern colonies from seceding immediately.

Lincoln is often derided for his “war against states’ rights”, but he aptly attached his argument to the same philosophy which drove the Constitutional authors to adopt the 3/5 clause; that it was the most viable way to avoid fracturing the nation while working to abolish slavery. History says he was right.

Calling Matthews a baloonhead merely insults all baloons worldwide. Actually, calling him almost anything effectively insults the more commonly applied object of the term employed. Hopefully soon, Thrill-boy will follow Bathtub-boy into the unemployment line.

Chip on January 28, 2011 at 2:08 PM

Let’s review: Immediately after the Tucson tragedy the Left started calling for the repression of free speech and the right of self-defense.

As in the calls for “Civility” for the right, forgetting all the In-civilly we’ve all witnessed over the years from the Left.

They also started calling for more disarming of the law-abiding.

At first, it was a jumbled effort – calls for the start of a registration system (Closing the mythical “gun- show” loophole)

Calls for banning so-called “Assault Weapons” despite the fact that the tragedy in Tucson didn’t involve what commonly called an “Assault Weapon”

Now they’ve figured out that they best they may be able to get from this ‘Serious crisis’ is the banning of ‘High capacity’ magazines.

(Whatever the h.. ‘capacity means’)

So, why don’t you try answering the question for once, or is it a case where you don’t agree with the Left’s attempted diminishment of these rights?
