Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on January 24, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

Barack Obama dropped by a GE plant on Friday to announce the appointment of their CEO, Jeffrey Immelt, to a new advisory board on job creation, and to talk about some of his close friends in New York. The President named his “two great friends of mine” in the Senate, including Chuck Schumer, and, er … who?

Mark Finkelstein points out that Obama’s great friend Kirsten Gillibrand pronounces her name with a soft G, not a hard G:

PBO pronounces Gillibrand with a hard ‘g,’ whereas the correct pronunciation is with the soft g, as in JILL-i-brand.

Maybe someone should take the time to introduce Obama to his “great friend” one of these days.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Illustrations by Chris Muir of Day by Day. Be sure to read the adventures of Sam, Zed, Damon, and Jan every day!

Heaven protect us from unreconstructed Neo-cons such as ex-UN ambassador John Bolton, who wants to send aircraft carrier battle groups into the Straits of Taiwan, as if we were still living in that lost world of American pre-eminence in 1996, when China was still too weak to respond, and did not have operational missiles able to sink US carriers far at sea. Yet variants of the Bolton view are gaining ground on Capitol Hill.

The correct statecraft for the West is to treat Beijing politely but firmly as a member of global club, gambling that the Confucian ethic will over time incline China to a quest for global as well as national concord. Until we face irrefutable evidence that this Confucian bet has failed, ‘Boltonism’ must be crushed.

Appeasement, your hour has come.

Keemo on January 24, 2011 at 8:25 AM
Fallon on January 24, 2011 at 8:43 AM

a key reason why Chinese consumption has collapsed from 48pc to 36pc of GDP over 12 years – and therefore why China cannot eliminate the trade surplus with the US – is that the banking system has been bailed out with an interest rate subsidy extracted from depositors, shifting income from the people to corporate debtors. Unfortunately, this is about to happen again.

…sound familiar? US Tax Payers taxed to specifically fund international bail-outs that only profit the “richer” (Bernanke refusing to say where all of our bail-out funds have gone, to which global banks to fund what).

The political reality is that China’s export of manufacturing over-capacity is hollowing out the US industrial core, and a plethora of tricks to stop Western firms competing in the Chinese market rubs salt in the wound. It is preventing full recovery in the US, where half the population is falling out of the bottom of the Affluent Society. Some 43.2m people are now on food stamps. The US labour force participation rate has fallen to 64.3pc, worse than a year ago. Only the richer half is recovering.

Since Clinton destroyed the US pre-eminence of 1996 by PERSONALLY selling our military industrial secrets to Red China (Marxists are not Confucian), “Obaba” takes the money and runs, forfeiting US tax-funded GM bail-out to Red China to enforce a communist “communal” co-ownership of our entire military industrial complex.

Excuse me, not “ours” anymore, but “theirs”.

Unless you play with words the British way at Oxford amongst the elitists, where all depends upon the meaning of “is”.

Confucian Communists v. US National Security unrepentant Bolton typecast as out-of-date AS IF Confucian is modernity.

I believe in national security that protects our own borders, our own interior, our own citizens.

I am no fan of US “Nation Building” in Islam, and refute the neo-conservative dogma “to win the hearts and minds of our enemies” via perpetual military engagements in Islam where Muslims will not leave the Muslim faith. I denounce the US Military PC Rules of Engagement ABROAD that are not simply counterproductive, but absolutely insane.

Yet whatever Ambrose Evans-Pritchard just pitched as PC-neoconservative via “reconstruction” I won’t buy, either.

Marxist Revisionism is evil because it erases historical record and transplants a fabrication of mutating lies as the malleable “reconstructed” record upon which one functions.

It is interesting that Pritchard’s article begins by refusing to account for German records exposed in a new publication that counter the official keep-their-nose-clean-in-public British as the good-guys account of what instigated WWI. (Victors’ write history “that we all learned at school” as Pritchard preens).

It’s wise to read all sources in order to see how others think and to learn who, when, where and what. But in the knowing, it’s foolish not to have principles upon which to stand.

First Principles, PROUDLY MADE IN THE USA.

To function, First Principles must be used, rather than be abused, damaged, sold or dumped as Obama’s Policy transforms.

I’d gamble that the “unreconstructed neo-conservative” Bolton would support those First Principles and that Romney would allow revisionism to dictate a dissolving transformation of America into a Federal Authoritarian State.

I take from Pritchard’s smear that though in his administration, John Bolton did not “reconstruct” along with GWBush’s self-professed reformation of the Republican Party into “compassionate conservative” socialist neo-cons.

…I’m just thinking in comment.

maverick muse on January 24, 2011 at 9:31 AM

darwin-t

Demand transcripts, records and original documents.

Otherwise, enable and strengthen revisionism along with the “compassionate” reformed-Republican-Party of “reconstructed neo-conservatives”.

So “revisionism” being exposed, now the power elitists tout “reconstructed” references that have such a solid ring and denote a sense of security. Note well that “reconstruction” occurs because America is already destroyed, that lost world of American pre-eminence in 1996″: Appeasement, your hour has come.

From time to time recently we have heard that so-and-so BELIEVE??? that Obama was born in Hawaii. WE DO NOT NEED OBAMA’S BIRTH CERTIFICATE TO KNOW THAT OBAMA IS NOT A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN. Obama’s father WAS NOT a citizen of the United States; therefore, OBAMA IS NOT A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN. The propaganda from Hawaii’s governor and recently from others is an attempt to end the debate. But like the Tea Party, the “Birthers” will not cease and desist from insisting that Obama be removed for failure to qualify according to our Constitution.

What is incredible is that ALL of those who have uttered that Obama is qualified have been sworn to uphold the Constitution. Like the vial and corrupt Nixon, Obama should be removed immediately.
