It’s come to this: CNN apologizes … after guest uses “crosshairs” metaphor

posted at 9:15 pm on January 18, 2011 by Allahpundit

C’mon, can you blame them? Weren’t six people, one of them a little girl, recently murdered because Sarah Palin once used a crosshairs metaphor? Oh, right: That wasn’t the reason at all. But it could have been the reason, theoretically, just like heavy metal or action movies or porn or ultimate fighting or any of a million other cultural elements could have been the reason. That’s the thing about violent, wildly unpredictable, brain-addled lunatics: You never know what’ll set ‘em off. But surely, near the very top of the list of explosive influences, must be mild-mannered political commentators on CNN casually using age-old “targeting” metaphors to talk about an upcoming campaign.

Which reminds me: Am I hallucinating or didn’t this same network once have an entire show devoted to heated political debate called … “Crossfire”? With a crosshairs logo? How did the republic survive while it was on the air?

Enjoy the clip. I’m going to go look around for Rod Serling. I keep thinking he’s ready to step out from behind a door and explain this whole episode. Click the image to watch.

Update: If you think this can’t get even more bizarre and ironic, think again.

Pathetic.

Apparently CNN.com hasn’t got the memo. The lead story right now about Obama meeting with Hu,contains this whopper:

“Senate Democrats this week renewed their push to crack down on countries that manipulate their currencies, with China clearly in their crosshairs.”

– Crosshairs?? On CNN? This kind of hateful rhetoric is inciting me to commit violence.

CNN is as stupid as a bag of hammers.

By all means, feel free to stop using “hateful” speech. Give up your right to speak out against Injustice and Tyranny in your government. Because it is too antagonistic and hateful to call a politician, any politician, who votes to give more of your tax money to businesses that paid through donations to get them elected, to welfare recipients who game a system stacked against honesty and self reliant folks, to politicians’ pets who use federal law and policy to garner more profits from suing business, and fining those industries currently not in favor with the current political regime like oil companies, pharmaceuticals, banks. Who use lawyers, and union interests to grab the money and power they crave to keep you quiet through intimidation.

Remember that the thugs in Iraq pulled election officials and their enemies out of cars and shot them during rush hour, on video, simply to make a statement that they wanted their way and were ready to demonize and kill anyone through intimidation to get their way. Unions, lawyers, and politicians are such people who use threats to get their way also. While they may not kill to make examples yet, they also haven’t achieved the majority they crave yet. What then will stop them?

Feel free to allow the so called “grass roots” lobbying organizations like ACORN and the UAW and SEIU to steal elections while you simply muzzle your speech and allow them to establish their rule of cronyism forever in this land which was once a place where Men were free.

The failure of your business, the inability of your kids to find jobs, the wait for “non approved” medical procedures for months while the woman who gave her life to you wastes away and dies as you hold her hand till her heart stops pumping, the utter despair of never being able to change this life because you were not born “favored” by the ruling class, are all things which we spent the last 100 years getting rid of in this country, and leading the world in eliminating Injustice and Poverty in the world today……. and it is gone in 3 short years? How fleeting is the security and prosperity in which we give our Rights over to a government of fallible men, especially those, like Dhimmicrats, who crave nothing so much as power for themselves over others’ lives.

There will be no curiosity, no enjoyment of the process of life. All competing pleasures will be destroyed. But always— do not forget this, Winston— always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face— forever. —Orwell’s 1984

Keep rolling over folks. It is only your own future and the future of your children and neighbors, and even the Free countries of the world today, that hang in the balance of the current media campaign to shut you up by calling your “thoughtcrimes” into the open… and sending you to reeducation in the near future.

Don’t believe it? How else can you explain the loss of so much freedom to say what you want without fear of violence against you by the left over the last 10 yrs alone?

I say we all actively hold them to it.

Every time they use a “hateful” or “violent” word, we all call in and ask for an apology. Let’s just turn CNN into the worst example of PC newspeak we can imagine.

IUnknown on January 19, 2011 at 10:25 AM

I think CNN will be apologizing everyday forever; taking aim at, in the cross-hairs, Crossfire, dead aim, aim, line of sight, trajectory.

I am sure they will have no problem with terms like; evil Republicans, greedy conservatives, etc.

Talk about much ado about nothing.

Meanwhile a group of protesters in D.C., is using the graphic in a protest of a developers house. Will the graphic get blamed if someone gets shot?

Aha . . . is the cat now out of the bag? Can we now see the outlines of the hidden CNN agenda?

Could it be that they merely want to provoke or “trick” OTHERS into using “that kind of language?”

Piers Morgan, who in replacing Larry King, has already put together a “List” of people who he refuses to interview on the show!

From that story, a revealing Piers Morgan quote, naming names on his “list!”

. . .
The other banned television host is Keith Olbermann. Why? “Just because it would really annoy him. I think he’s a great broadcaster, but I know he gets wound up very easily. It’s not a lifetime ban, it’s a temporary ban, designed to confuse and bemuse him, and hopefully engender a violent reaction,” Morgan said, the story notes.
(my emphasis added)

Hmmmmmmmmm! Morgan blurts, and the plot thickens!
