Poll: What was the Obamateurism of the Week?

posted at 9:00 am on January 16, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

Even though there will be time for the OOTY in 2012, it’s time now to vote on the Obamateurism of the Week!  We have a few modest choices here, so you won’t need to pass the buck.  Can you dig it?

Previous 2011 “winners”:

Last week, we picked the OOTY for 2010, which was Obama bailing on his own press conference to attend a party and leaving Bill Clinton in charge.  Next week we’ll start listing the 2011 OOTW winners in this space.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me atobamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

We know now who wrote the Tucson speech: 30 year-old Chicagoan Wrote Tucson Speech

Are we allowed to discuss who writes speeches for a democratic president?

slickwillie2001 on January 16, 2011 at 11:16 AM

It was not a speech, it was his revival sermon. Pay good attention before you’re all scroomed royally by the charlatan.

Schadenfreude on January 16, 2011 at 12:41 PM

I had to go w/ the campaigning one, but like everyone else, if the “Fired up, ready to mourn!” rally had of been there, that would have been my first choice.

di butler on January 16, 2011 at 12:43 PM

Looking around at various sites you’ll come across some O-bots defending Obama’s mangled metaphor: “But those miners in Chile were DUG OUT of the hole! ‘Digging out of the hole’ is a common phrase!!!” LOL Hilarious.

PS Note that picture #2 is a ‘clipped ears’ picture, which tells us it came from the liberal media. This one is not even well done. Why no discussion of the blatant photoshopping of Bammie’s pictures?

1. Aloof and out of touch
2. Amateur
3. Moron
4. Jackass

Well, he’s going to run. I guess I always knew it but I had hopes that he would see how bad he is at the job since he’s rumoured to be so bright.

Having a Campaign Rally at a memorial for murder victims!

Hello, McFly?!?

Ed, I know you don’t agree, but why don’t you list it as an option in your “poll?”

james23 on January 16, 2011 at 9:21 AM

Seconded. If passing out “Together We Thrive” t-shirts at a memorial service doesn’t qualify as an Obamateurism, I don’t know what does.

In fact, we may have our 2011 winner right there.

There Goes The Neighborhood on January 16, 2011 at 11:54 AM

It was a campaign rally…complete with recycled Organizing for America slogans on t-shirts.

powerpro on January 16, 2011 at 1:00 PM

“Expanding our moral imaginations”…yep, that’s got to close to the top.

d1carter on January 16, 2011 at 1:13 PM

Can’t believe the Tuscon speech isn’t an Obamateurism. It could have been the Obamateurism of the Year if only Ed hadn’t swooned like a little girl when he heard the One speak.

joe_doufu on January 16, 2011 at 1:33 PM

“I really want to figure out a way where I can spend more time outside of Washington listening and learning and engaging the American people [running for re-election rather than actually acting as President, because it is the only thing I've ever been any good at, besides using my half-blackness to leverage influence with weak-minded liberals, of course].”

Barry O’Bonehead

Fixed that for ya, Hussein.

How about an obamateurism through omission? Here you go, Ed: The President of the United States sat back for four days without saying a word while the nation was tsunami-ed by the media machine, ruthlessly savaging Sarah Palin and conservatives/TP, insuring that the blood libel would be set in stone…

After which the AZ speech was in another class all it’s own, the lowest class possible: using the victims, even a murdered child, to further one’s political power and to reinforce the lies about the nature of the shooting. And soaring above it all, the unmitigated gall and hypocrisy of obama, of all people to claim the high ground…smacks of other despots of history not too long past…

tigerlily on January 16, 2011 at 1:39 PM

Except someone said those might be closed captioning, for the deaf. And in close captioning, they mention that applause is happening.

Alana on January 16, 2011 at 11:31 AM

On a JumboTron at the event? Are these deaf attendees blind, too? Can’t they see what is going on around them?

onlineanalyst on January 16, 2011 at 1:44 PM

P.S. By completely omitting the biggest story of the week, and the year, so far, does that mean it was handled perfectly by obama, or that it never happened? Has our host become Winston Smith a la 1984; is Big Brother forcing him to toe the line in writing of the majestic one’s appearances and to omit historical fact from the official HA record?

Oh, yes. Everything about this man is a lie, from his identity to the ends of the hairs on his head. He wouldn’t be a good Leftist if it was any other way.

The only thing he can’t hide are his souless eyes. These two photos once again reveal obama’s lifeless pits of nothingness that he thinks pass for human eyes.

tigerlily on January 16, 2011 at 2:04 PM

#4 because it was a double whammy – the first is the obvious, and the second is that he actually began his campaign on Wednesday night with the Teeeee-shirts!

You get my vote!

MainelyRight on January 16, 2011 at 1:53 PM

Thanks! Now all we have to do is see how we can help Winston Smith, erahh, I mean, Ed, escape the clutches of Big Brother.

tigerlily on January 16, 2011 at 2:09 PM

It’s going to be a little difficult using the “Together We Thrive” message as a campaign slogan now that they’ve denied being behind the t-shirt idea.

PatMac on January 16, 2011 at 3:00 PM

A target rich environment this week … oops never mind.

That’s what I thought, too. But – it may be the case?

Alana on January 16, 2011 at 5:19 PM

The right option is not on the list, its the “Together We Thrive Rally” plain and simple.

Sharr on January 16, 2011 at 5:52 PM

No way that I can vote this week since the obvious was omitted. How could the President remain silent for four days, personally call and thank the very wrong sheriff, and the next day speak at a pep rally about being civil? And yes, we all know and believe that there was no way for the President to change the tone of the Memorial service from a national disgrace to a sincere service of respect for the victims and their families. When are the blindfolds coming off?????

mobydutch on January 16, 2011 at 6:22 PM

Mine is his speech in Tuscon, but you thought it was a “presidentism”, so….

I agree, the pep rally, I mean memorial service with OFA’s Together We Thrive slogan was in poor taste and definitely should have been an OAOTW.

Keep digging Obama :)

Hey Obowma, fill that big hole with slurpees.

A similar delay in the gulf oil spill, 70 days to respond was disgusting for a, so called leader.

Obama says Gibbs’ $172,00 salary “relatively modest”

I vote for this one. It’s outrageous that anyone would get paid more than $300/week.
