Video: Scarborough says Palin’s political career over

posted at 1:36 pm on January 14, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

Via Newsbusters, Joe Scarborough and Donny Deutsch consign Sarah Palin’s political career to the ash heap — certainly not the first time anyone’s done that — after her video response to the slanderous accusations of the media regarding her supposed responsibility for the Tucson shootings. Wasn’t that the conclusion media analysts had been flacking before her response, too?  And let’s not forget that the supposedly self-centered response was prompted by the media centering the story on Palin for the previous three days:

DONNY DEUTSCH: I think as we’ve seen Sarah Palin probably ended her political career. And I don’t mean to overstate it with her reaction, because she showed the flip-side of the reaction –

JOE SCARBOROUGH: I don’t think you’re overstating it at all. I really don’t. I think, all of us, Pat Buchanan was talking yesterday about how we understood the anger that Sarah Palin might feel for being unjustly accused minutes after the shooting of causing that, the shootings. But, Jon Meacham, the response by Sarah Palin, on the day that they were going to remember a nine-year old little girl that got killed and several senior citizens, and of course a congresswoman who was clinging for her life, to make it all about her, and to stir the pot up additionally with a very loaded phrase–that others have used–but others weren’t considering running for President of these United States. Got to say, I really do believe, it’s not an overstatement to say this probably ended Sarah Palin’s political career. I would be stunned–and save this tape, save this tape and rub it in my face if I’m wrong–would be stunned to ever see Sarah Palin elected to another political office.

JON MEACHAM: I suspect you’re right.

So responding to the media coverage after three days is to “make it all about her”?  Well, Joe might see it that way, but I doubt that most people will agree.  And based on the polling that has been done this week which shows most people rejecting the link between the shootings and “heated rhetoric,” most people will fairly conclude that Palin had a right to defend herself from the malicious attacks.

Let’s recall the meme at Joe’s network the night before Palin released the response:

One day Palin’s “SILENT – ON THE LAM,” and the next day, she’s injecting herself into the situation.  Er, riiiight.  To call this an absurdity is being too generous.

Have all the “experts” gone nucking futs?!
Dayum!

least1 on January 14, 2011 at 6:46 PM

I would vote for her for President just to drive the left nucking futs.

My cubicle mate would vote for her cause she’s a “good looking woman.”

So that’s two votes.

Anyone else?

Mr_Magoo on January 14, 2011 at 6:51 PM

This event has made me a rabid Palinista. Palin in 2011 cuz I can’t wait for 2012.

Mormon Doc on January 14, 2011 at 7:14 PM

Some people may know I am a big Romney fan, but this bad treatment of Palin is pissing me off beyond belief.

The media is horrible, I will NOT let them pick my president for me, and I will publicly support her if needs be to fight this libel against her.

scotash on January 14, 2011 at 7:16 PM

This is simply wrong. Palin was not the only one calling for less government, less spending, etc. That is actually absurd.

keepinitreal on January 14, 2011 at 3:57 PM

sure sure sure…. care to name those other gop politicans that were calling for less government.

You have allowed your hate to blind you to the facts. Mitt and jeb gave away free pizza and 50 people showed up to hear both say the era of Reagan was over and we must move on.

Palin changed the narrative by branding the election and the GOp as the party of Reagan instead of the party of bush which brought the tea party back to the gop

unseen on January 14, 2011 at 7:32 PM

I’d vote for Palin in a heartbeat over some of the RINO’s the left seems to want to steer us towards. Not really all that impressed with her, but at least she’s not more of the same Washington machine mentality.

flyfishingdad on January 14, 2011 at 7:42 PM

I don’t want to see her run. That notwithstanding, what she has been subjected to is pure, unadulterated, bull$#!+. Dishonest, despicable, infuriating, let alone as disingenous as you can get. More to come, no matter the nominee. The guilty can only look in the mirror without throwing up because what it took to do this is in their basic makeup. Pathetic.

Video: Scarborough says Palin’s political career over

Scarborough’s mirror reflects Palin’s image?

rukiddingme on January 14, 2011 at 8:39 PM

She is our warrior princess. Our Sarah Connor. She is the only one to stand up and fight for us. O’Reilly is on now saying that this has been another debacle for the left that has caused them to lose more credibility. I hope so. I worry that people out in living rooms of America who don’t follow these things too closely will be able to see past the snow job these slimeballs are orchestrating. But maybe they are, all the polls are saying so. If so then maybe BOR is right. Sarah therefore is the wise one. She trusts in the people.

shmendrick on January 14, 2011 at 8:41 PM

You want an alternative to Sarah Palin? Think she’s the wrong choice?

Well, step up. Nobody else is, not at that level.

Don’t whine if you don’t have an alternative, unless you think the right thing is “do nothing.”

Merovign on January 14, 2011 at 8:50 PM

You guys are just burying your heads in the sand.
Joe Scarborough knows when a political career is over.
Boy, does he ever.

billy on January 14, 2011 at 9:01 PM

And this is of note, why, exactly?

chris999 on January 14, 2011 at 9:20 PM

Successful at what, seizing on the chance to line her pockets instead of serving the people of Alaska? Anyone with a decent eduction who watched that interview in its entirely can hardly take Palin seriously, and that’s why her electability as POTUS is near zero.

bayam on January 14, 2011 at 5:55 PM

She tried to serve the people of America, and got destroyed by the media. So she went private sector. Only a communist scoffs at someone pursuing a good living.

bayam on January 14, 2011 at 5:55 PM

So she’s making an honest buck instead of being a politician and spending tax dollars, therefore she’d make a crappy president. I can’t believe you people talk like this. “Unelectable” indeed.

gryphon202 on January 14, 2011 at 9:43 PM

Bammy on the other hand is lining his pockets by taking money for ‘writing’ a childrens’ book while he is president!

He ‘wrote’ that childrens’ book like he ‘wrote’ his two autobiographies.

slickwillie2001 on January 14, 2011 at 9:59 PM

Successful at what, seizing on the chance to line her pockets instead of serving the people of Alaska?

If you honestly believe any politician – particularly anyone you voted for – is interested in “serving the people,” take a good look around the table. You’re the sucker.

Democratic politicians, in particular, are nearly all living out some feverish Camelot dream. Republican politicians are mostly the ones not smart enough to make a real living like Palin.

Anyone with a decent eduction who watched that interview in its entirely can hardly take Palin seriously,

Only people with a B.S. degree hate Sarah Palin? I doubt it. Lots of liberal arts majors seem to hate her, particularly ones from what used to be institutions of higher learning.

and that’s why her electability as POTUS is near zero.

Anyone can win an election in America if their opponent is even less electable.

HitNRun on January 14, 2011 at 10:07 PM

The more that they hate her, the more that I am convinced that she must be good for the country.

Why are they _that_ afraid of her?

Is it because she is a strong, intelligent, independent, beautiful, conservative Christian woman who has made her own way to the top? (Something that they said could not exist or happen.)

Is it because she would shatter their whole meme of what a woman has to be in order to be happy and successful?

Is it because she would actually be good for the country and would roll back many of their destructive socialist policies?

All of the above? (Ding, ding, ding! LOL!)

Theophile on January 15, 2011 at 2:51 AM

Scarborough, you have evolved into such a pathetic creature whose desire to be liked by the left has left you void of the ability to think in a logical, coherent manner. But, the money is good, ehh?

devolvingtowardsidiocracy on January 15, 2011 at 8:16 AM

Sarah is the most maligned person I’ve ever seen. If the MSM had spent just half the effort on Obama as they have on Palin…maybe we wouldn’t have a train wreck in the WH. Palin would still be better than President Eunuch and with twice the intestinal fortitude.

Wills on January 15, 2011 at 9:39 AM

The tablets of fate have been carved in granite. She is unelectable. If she is the nominee, we will have a GOP implosion of Delawarean proportions.

tommylotto on January 14, 2011 at 1:55 PM

If you just keep repeating it, I’m sure it will become true…..

…. unless, of course, you just become repeatedly wrong.

That’s funny, I don’t remember MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC, virtually all the print media and left political blogs going on for months on end about Britney’s hairless crotch.

Maybe I missed it.

darwin on January 14, 2011 at 2:06 PM

Yep.

crr6 on January 14, 2011 at 2:11 PM

Dude! How did you miss the months of speculation over whether Britney Spears and/or her hairless crotch would run for president?!

Anyone with a decent eduction who watched that interview in its entirely can hardly take Palin seriously, and that’s why her electability as POTUS is near zero.

bayam on January 14, 2011 at 5:55 PM

No one has seen the interview in its entirety. All that was shown was a few minutes culled from hours of interviews. Past experience with media treatment of Palin indicates they threw out everything that was good and did their best editing to make her look bad.

So “Anyone with a decent eduction who watched that interview in its entirely” (sic) is basically a group of 0.

Desperation is not attractive.

I’ll bet that more people “heard” Scarborough here on Hot Air than saw it on MSNBC. These people simply don’t matter.

conservativecaveman on January 15, 2011 at 5:26 PM

Palin’s career as a talker is not over, but her career as a Leader.
It’s not about her response.
I wasn’t aware of her use of a gun sight symbol to point out political opposition.
Our boy’s marched in mud too many times with real guns, not metaphors, so’s we could have a political system based on the decency of discussion with dissent.
She will never be able to persuade our America that she is competent to be Commander in Chief, like my hero the 9/11 Bush, or Kennedy, or Reagan or Lincoln.
Hell, even George Wallace wouldn’t have used a gun sight symbol to target Americans.

Have to wonder where you were when the original hissyfits about the marks were going on. Maybe you should read what that was about rather tha get so righteously indignant.

As for her being unqualified to be C in C – personally I’d rather have someone who understands the role of the military than a wussie like we have in Obama

katiejane on January 15, 2011 at 7:12 PM

Here’s Joe’s reality. HuffPo recently had an article on the ratings.

Morning Joe didn’t even beat out Behar. I’m not kidding.

The show is actually interesting. I watched it, and they were getting in great interviews.

But Joe Scarborough totally made Palin into some kind of joke. It was too much.

I personally think that the Fox morning show is rather boring, but I have to admit……I started watching that show.

At least I didn’t have to have coffee with someone who is insulting.

His ratings are in the tank. The only reason he’s surviving is due to the timeframe.

AnninCA on January 15, 2011 at 8:24 PM

OK, let’s say for a moment that Scarborough and Chrissy get their wish. Palin can’t get the nomination. She still has millions and millions of supporters. She endorses the GOP candidate — fully, enthusiastically. So the GOP has a candidate that isn’t Sarah Palin — all the Palin baggage is gone — but has Palin’s endorsement, and thus all of her potential voters. Let’s say that candidate is Mike Pence.

I think this is exactly what she is doing. I don’t think she will actually run herself, or maybe she will just to nudge the others farther to the Right in debates. Then she will give her voters to one of the front-runners.

YehuditTX on January 15, 2011 at 9:24 PM

When I was a kid my dad gave me some good advice about getting criticized. “Consider the source.”

What he meant by that was sometimes people will say things you think mean something to you until you see who is saying it, and then you realize their opinion doesn’t count.

Who is Joe S.? Where does he work? What kind of career does he have?

Answering those lets us know his opinion should be discounted. His opinion’s “weight” is akin to a Youtube rant by some disaffected liberal.

Just background noise. The truth is the American people, outside the walls of the MSNBC, know what happened here. They are also getting a whiff of what is actually going on inside their own government and don’t like it one bit. Get gas to 4.00 a gallon and hold it there and Tunisia will look like a play date at Disney.

The only thing holding the American people back is their inherent love for decency and good will. They want to find a peaceful way to get their nation back. I agree, but frankly the “Maries and Louies” up top don’t seem to grasp the level of frustration their citizens are feeling. Doesn’t anyone in the government read history???

God willing and the creek don’t rise, we’ll be able to right the ship in 2012. If not, I’m not betting on anything good happening. One thing for sure, Joe will have a whole bunch of other things to whine about.

archer52 on January 16, 2011 at 9:43 AM

YehuditTX on January 15, 2011 at 9:24 PM

There seems to me, anyway, to be a tradition of a broad field of candidates within the GOP. They run. They win some, lose some.

If I were her, I’d toss my hat in the ring. That will increase her influence, anyway.

rplat on January 17, 2011 at 7:33 AM

Will love to rub this and other things in your face. I am always surprised that the left tries to call for the demise of all people who do not dance to the same drummer that they do.

Also as amazing is the fact that they will not even believe the truth if it hit them square in the middle of the face.

The real truth is not as easy to understand as the left tries to make you believe.

MSGTAS on January 17, 2011 at 7:48 AM

And if anyone should know when a political career is over it’s Joe Scumbrough. His was over long ago.

Herb on January 17, 2011 at 9:17 AM

The left media doesn’t care about the facts, they only report what fits the left’s latest talking points. Reality, to them, has no place in a political arguement. And they have no shame or remorse. After last weeks united tirade against Palin, et al was shown to not be working with the public, they dropped it like it never happened. Hypocracy is not something they worry about. They need to believe the public has short memories but they under estimate us. Their credibility and that of our community organizer in chief diminishes every day. So when they declare that it’s over for Palin, they are just whistling past their graveyard.

shmendrick on January 17, 2011 at 2:22 PM

No matter what happens, leftists will find a way to tell self-serving lies, even if the new lies told today contradict the old lies told just the day before.

They are the concentrated manifestation of human nature’s dark and dishonest aspects.

There is no getting rid of them. They will always be with us because evil will always be with us. But we can fight them. We can work to contain them. We can hold them back from destroying our civilization. The best world we can hope for is one in which good ideas are popular and honest leaders are holding the reins of power. It is no coincidence that this is the same sort of world in which leftists and their ideas are marginalized.

dear little slick…… both nasty and wrong. congrats.

Obama will not, however, be seeing any profits from the book. All proceeds from sales of “Of Thee I Sing” will be donated to a scholarship fund for the children of soldiers who have been killed or disabled.
