Quotes of the day

“One of the wounded in the Tucson, Ariz., shooting that left Rep. Gabrielle Giffords critically injured is blaming Sarah Palin, House Speaker John Boehner, Fox TV host Glenn Beck and former Nevada GOP Senate candidate Sharron Angle for the tragedy.

“It looks like Palin, Beck, Sharron Angle and the rest got their first target,’ Eric Fuller said in an interview with Democracy NOW…

“‘Their wish for Second Amendment activism has been fulfilled — senseless hatred leading to murder, lunatic fringe anarchism, subscribed to by John Boehner, mainstream rebels with vengeance for all — even 9-year-old girls,’ he added, referring to the death of Christina Taylor Green…

“‘I would put Sarah Palin in first place there. I think, really, she should be incarcerated for treason for advocating assassinating public officials,’ Fuller said in an interview with Media Matters.”

“By Monday, The New York Times’ editorial page had kicked into action. It conceded that, sure, Loughner operated ‘well beyond usual ideological categories,’ but, still, it was ‘legitimate to hold Republicans and particularly their most virulent supporters in the media responsible for the gale of anger that has produced the vast majority of these threats, setting the nation on edge.’ The Los Angeles Times followed suit. It admitted that, sure, Loughner and ‘his own demons were primarily to blame,’ but it still condemned the ‘increasingly incendiary and violent rhetoric that characterizes today’s political debate,’ for which ‘the right bears the brunt of responsibility.’ Meanwhile, dozens of opinion writers were busily adding related but equally ethereal musings to the heap. Writing in the Guardian, blogger Jessica Valenti blamed a ‘country that sees masculinity—especially violent masculinity—as the ideal.’

“There is of course one advantage to all such lines of argument, if argument is the word for it. They are entirely faith-based, which makes them pretty much irrefutable. But faith-based punditry works in more than one direction. Seven years after the massacre at Columbine High School—in which two senior students shot and killed twelve students and a teacher—CBS News invited Brian Rohrbough, who had lost his son Dan, to explain why he thought the shootings had happened. ‘The public school system has taught in a moral vacuum, expelling God from the school and from the government, replacing him with evolution, where the strong kill the weak, without moral consequences and life has no inherent value,’ Rohrbough said. ‘And I assure you the murder of innocent children is always wrong, including by abortion. Abortion has diminished the value of children.’ Most liberals (myself included) would disagree with Rohrbough’s explanation for the shooting, but they’d have trouble explaining why it’s any less plausible or substantive than explanations blaming Jared Loughner on rightwing hysteria.”

***
“ABC News host George Stephanopoulos refuses to admit fault or issue a correction for implying politics had something to do with accused Tucson tragedy shooter Jared Lee Loughner’s motives…

“TheDC also asked the Washington Post, the New York Times and CNN if they were going to run corrections for the mistakes their reporters, anchors and columnists made.

“An editorial page assistant at the New York Times said it was up to columnist Paul Krugman whether he was going to run a correction for his mistakes. Krugman asserted that the Tea Party movement factored into Loughner’s shooting of Giffords and 19 other people on Saturday.

“The Post and CNN failed to respond to TheDC’s requests for comment.”

To believe something in the air directs people’s actions, without any demonstrable connection at all that it does, that’s classic insanity. What we have here is a liberal thought disorder, magnified and promulgated by a liberal news media, to the detriment of us all. That’s freedom for you.

Worth repeating until all of us here get it….. and make sure our neighbors understand, and FBook friends, and email groups.

The Left defines “CIVILITY” as Conservatives that either let them do what they want or are dead.

It’s that simple.

They either want us to shut up (like Obama said previously) or be dead.

Compare Lincoln’s Cooper Union Address to Sarah Palin’s address. This is not the first time that republicans have been accused that their rhetoric inspired violence.

You charge that we stir up insurrections among your slaves. We deny it; and what is your proof? Harper’s Ferry! John Brown!! John Brown was no Republican; and you have failed to implicate a single Republican in his Harper’s Ferry enterprise. If any member of our party is guilty in that matter, you know it or you do not know it. If you do know it, you are inexcusable for not designating the man and proving the fact. If you do not know it, you are inexcusable for asserting it, and especially for persisting in the assertion after you have tried and failed to make the proof. You need to be told that persisting in a charge which one does not know to be true, is simply malicious slander.

Some of you admit that no Republican designedly aided or encouraged the Harper’s Ferry affair, but still insist that our doctrines and declarations necessarily lead to such results. We do not believe it. We know we hold to no doctrine, and make no declaration, which were not held to and made by “our fathers who framed the Government under which we live.” You never dealt fairly by us in relation to this affair. When it occurred, some important State elections were near at hand, and you were in evident glee with the belief that, by charging the blame upon us, you could get an advantage of us in those elections. The elections came, and your expectations were not quite fulfilled. Every Republican man knew that, as to himself at least, your charge was a slander, and he was not much inclined by it to cast his vote in your favor. Republican doctrines and declarations are accompanied with a continual protest against any interference whatever with your slaves, or with you about your slaves. Surely, this does not encourage them to revolt. True, we do, in common with “our fathers, who framed the Government under which we live,” declare our belief that slavery is wrong; but the slaves do not hear us declare even this. For anything we say or do, the slaves would scarcely know there is a Republican party. I believe they would not, in fact, generally know it but for your misrepresentations of us, in their hearing. In your political contests among yourselves, each faction charges the other with sympathy with Black Republicanism; and then, to give point to the charge, defines Black Republicanism to simply be insurrection, blood and thunder among the slaves.

Slave insurrections are no more common now than they were before the Republican party was organized. What induced the Southampton insurrection, twenty-eight years ago, in which, at least three times as many lives were lost as at Harper’s Ferry? You can scarcely stretch your very elastic fancy to the conclusion that Southampton was “got up by Black Republicanism.” In the present state of things in the United States, I do not think a general, or even a very extensive slave insurrection is possible. The indispensable concert of action cannot be attained. The slaves have no means of rapid communication; nor can incendiary freemen, black or white, supply it. The explosive materials are everywhere in parcels; but there neither are, nor can be supplied, the indispensable connecting trains.

Terrell Suggs sends subtle message to Pittsburgh in T-shirt form

By Chris Chase

It’s no secret that Terrell Suggs(notes) doesn’t like the Pittsburgh Steelers. He wore a T-shirt back in August 2009 that told us exactly that. But in case you had forgotten the feelings of the Baltimore Ravens linebacker, Suggs has taken to wearing a T-shirt that succinctly sums up his attitude toward the city:

Bonus points for the casual, contemplative glance with which Suggs poses.

“What’s that? Oh yes; why, I am wearing a shirt with an anthropomorphic raven flipping off an entire city. Just business as usual here at the Ravens training facility.”

Between Rex Ryan issuing personal challenges to Bill Belichick, Antonio Cromartie(notes) cursing about Tom Brady(notes) and Suggs’ T-shirt, I fear that the discourse in the NFL is getting too uncivil. Twenty bucks says somebody blames Sarah Palin for this within the first 10 comments.

KickandSwimMom on January 14, 2011 at 10:33 PM

This smear of the right and Sarah is characterized by a complete lack of thoughtful, deliberative analysis of what was said and done. Vitrolic, hateful right-wing rhetoric? How so? Crosshairs on a map as a metaphor for defeating a candidate. A map itself is symbolic, a representation. A single mention of “2nd amendment remedies” by a Republican candidate rejected by the voters. “Reload, don’t retreat” as an obvious metaphor for standing up for what you believe. No evidence of a conservative who advocated violence or even winked at the use of violence. The charges are of the most vague kind, and yet so many mainstream newspapers and TV stations pressed the “hateful right-wing rhetoric” to the max. Shameful.

You know the funny thing is that I’ve referred to Palin as the Hillbilly from Wasilly, have questions about her positions on Immigration, and her going after (and kind of demonizing Big Oil) and certainly her support of McCain but this pile of steaming excrement that the Obama Lapdance Media has been putting out this week is really just CHAVEZ/THIRD WORLD DICTATOR STUFF. She is the new Satan to the left. The real threat to their God (Obama).

They have now not only called out the Tea Party, Palin, but Angle, Rush, Ingraham, Beck, and ALL CONSERVATIVE LEADERS.

This isn’t just an attack on one person it’s an ATTACK ON THE ENTIRE CONSERVATIVE MOVEMENT. It’s kind of like Nancy Pelosi goading the protestors when she walked across the Plaza with her big Gavel.

The truth is with us…..we want our country back and we’re paying attention to who is with us…..and so far it has NOT BEEN THE SORRY *** GOP LEADERSHIP.

Silent as muzzled Lambs the GOP (McCain/etc) have been over the attacks on their base. THE GOP IS EVEN MORE DISGUSTING THAN THE LEFT. Because the Left at least FIGHTS for what they believe in. The GOP just rolls over and says, “kick me again love”.

They want to talk rhetoric, let’s talk rhetoric. What you have here is a logical fallacy called “Affirming the Antecedent”: We have heated political rhetoric. An unstable person committed violence. Therefore heated political rhetoric causes unstable people to commit violence. However, there are other things that drive people to commit violence.

It is far more likely that in the few cases where violence is politically motivated, the same thing is causing both the rhetoric and the violence, and that is anger. The guy who wanted to shoot up the Tides Foundation was really angry. People who are really angry are often paranoid, and they both seek out bombastic media and commit violence. You’re just looking at two symptoms, not a cause and effect. This is the fallacy called “non sequitur”.

Similarly, Jared Loughner experienced a disorganized reality. He actively searched for and found Philip K. Dick novels. He then went off and murdered people. Did Philip K. Dick cause the murders? No. Post hoc ergo propter hoc. Jared chose both because they fit his perspective.

Further, I have it on good authority that use of logical fallacies is — wait for it — hate speech.

Oh, the travesty!

alwaysfiredup on January 14, 2011 at 10:47 PM

As some of us knew the calls for civility apply only to the conservatives who are not being uncivil.

Dissent is no longer Patriotic as some of us well know.

Until the RINOs and Republicans stand up for their own, quit praising the Liar In Chief for his pandering lies, and pundits and journalists quit associating and hobnobbing with their liberal counterparts who slander, smear and libel conservatives nothing will change and the country will continue its’ leftward lurch as the lies get larger, more blatant until everything that is good and true is destroyed and only the liars have a voice.

Where are the Republican voices pushing back against this onslaught. Shame on Krauthammer, McCain, Boehner, for not pushing back, for being cowed by the sheer audacity of the liberal liars whose vitriol WILL get someone killed!

Run Sarah Run we will back you, will work for you and will have your back!

Palin is just the liberal media’s scapegoat; sooner or later they will have to face up to: High unemployment. Stimulus failure. Soaring food & gas prices. The ever unpopular Obamacare. Let’s dance!

Matthew 24.

I hope that’s not too offensive.

Also Genesis 12:3 in relation to Sarah.

Crux Australis on January 14, 2011 at 10:51 PM

Keep it up lefties. You’re getting us united behind Sarah much better than we could have possibly done by ourselves.

shmendrick on January 14, 2011 at 10:40 PM

Spot on! They are setting up their own undoing. Not very long from now Matthews or someone… maybe even Obama himself is going to wake and Sarah Palin will be President-Elect. They’re not going to know how to handle it.

I can see Obama bowing is head is shame/shock already. Actually that vision came to me on the day he was inaugurated.

And, she won’t need to take the oath twice!

Sharr on January 14, 2011 at 10:51 PM

Why is no one talking about the price of OIL?

Inanemergencydial on January 14, 2011 at 10:35 PM

Good question. Because we’re not supposed to notice. Nothing to see there. All this uproar is just another one of their diversions until the price of food and gas is so high we can’t afford to live anymore. The national guards are already preparing for food riots. Beck had video of this. Now they’re talking about the coming unavailability of food staples. I hope you’re all prepared for these coming problems. Now even Houston city gov. is preventing people from giving free meals to the homeless. Reminds me of the lefty folk singers making fun of the Salvation Army back in the thirties for trying to feed people instead of letting the gov. do it. This people are sick evil.

shmendrick on January 14, 2011 at 10:51 PM

Palin gets them off their game. The Left commits unforced errors, but their hate blinds them from their folly. The rhetoric becomes yet more vile.

She weathers the storm and launches another well aimed rebuttal while they scramble in disarray. The cycle repeats until the enemy, suffering from exhaustion, can only cry in despair.

This is how it’s done folks. No one does it better. We are winning.

Lincoln, giving that speech today, would have been roundly criticized by “our” so-called media. He would have been accused of inserting himself into an issue and his political career would have been pronounced dead.

Over, my 50 and older crowd:

Raise your hand if you remember the pre-Reagan years.

There is not another Republican politician in history who they have announced well ahead they are petrified of. Because of what they saw in the House takeover. But you know what, she may not run. But they are scared ++++less of her POWER.

In the 70′s, “All in the Family” was making fun of Reagan as unelectable – a joke that when Archie Bunker said he had written “Reagan” in place of Nixon had the audience howling.

Believe me, if something happens to Palin they will say that she brought it on herself and they will absolve themselves of any guilt. It’s easy for the left — an apparently some on the right.

KickandSwimMom on January 14, 2011 at 10:57 PM

good wrapup, geo. I guess that noise we are hearing is the lamentations of their women being driven before us.

**caveat** “lamentations of women” is a gratuitous reference to Conan The Barbarian, a medieval warrior skilled with a broadsword. Any slight or offense to any disaffected NAG party members who may chafe at this martial reference is intentional. gfy

ted c on January 14, 2011 at 10:58 PM

This is what i read today Yahoo! sports. You know the left have officially jumped the shark when sportswriters are now using them as the butt of jokes.

Chudi on January 14, 2011 at 10:31 PM

Citing one example isn’t enough, as the vast majority of MSM sportswriters are as far Left as their other newsroom colleagues.

Unfortunately, the left with help from some on the right, have made it flat out dangerous for Palin in the lower 48. This is like the Salem witch trials. I have no doubt there will be an attempt on her or her family due to the hysterical atmosphere of lies and distortions that has been allowed to fester and grow.

KickandSwimMom on January 14, 2011 at 10:33 PM

I don’t think this will happen. I, one of among many prayer warriors, pray for Sarah every day…’that no weapon formed against her will prosper” and that the attacks of her enemies will backfire on her enemies tenfold. I pray for her safety and security and know that God is an awesome God and watches over her.
