Video: Krauthammer vs. Limbaugh on Obama’s speech

posted at 10:11 pm on January 13, 2011 by Allahpundit

I joked last night on Twitter that liking The One’s speech could be the new RINO litmus test. (Chris Christie flunked!) From this afternoon’s Rush:

“Fox Loved it,” he said. “The Fox All Stars, when this was done, were slobbering over the speech. It was predictable. They were slobbering for the predictable reasons – it as smart, it was articulate…It was everything the educated, ruling class wants their leaders to be and sound like.”

Limbaugh parsed the speech in detail, finding in it the same themes that conservatives have been complaining about all week, namely, a call for “civility” that is code for an attempt to muzzle conservative media.

“We had a speech last night where essentially the people of this country were commanded to change the way they are behaving because of events like this,” he said.

Not the first time recently that he and Kraut have clashed. Remember when Limbaugh called him out for criticizing Palin and DeMint after they backed O’Donnell over Castle? I can’t help worrying, my friends, that the primaries shall result in a Great Cleaving among the heroes of the base, with people like Rush and Beck on one side and Krauthammer and Christie on the other. What happens then? Can the dreaded “RINO” label be avoided, or must one side necessarily bear the scarlet “R”?

Two clips for you, the first via the Daily Caller of Krauthammer’s response to Rush on this evening’s Bret Baier show and the other of the panel’s effusive praise of The One’s speech last night. You already know where I stand on the latter, but then, the scarlet “R” has been branded on my forehead for ages.

It doesn’t matter what Obama says, it only matter what he does…people still don’t understand that?

right2bright on January 14, 2011 at 9:36 AM

Exactly!

My take on the speech is that he says we need to _______
Then he follows that up with But ______

This is the President who told Sheriff Dupnik he was doing a good job, then a day or 2 later, says we need to be more civil. I guess Dupnik was being civil when he claimed that conservative radio, etc caused this?!?!?!

SourKraut should put aside his Palin derangement and Messiah worship, although he does a decent job of sort of defending her today, and read a little of what others think of the Won, The Clown in search of a parade, Barrack Husseins speech at the campaign/Memorial service!

dhunter on January 14, 2011 at 12:45 PM

Dupnik and Obama are of the same mind….all you need to know.

Schadenfreude on January 14, 2011 at 12:47 PM

Quite frankly, I am beginning to find Krathammer getting very boring and he is really starting to wear on me, perhaps due to overexposure.

I question how much longer FNC can be successful having the same people saying the same thing night after night – not only the hosts, but also the contributors. I have stopped watching because it’s as though every night is a rerun.

bw222 on January 14, 2011 at 12:48 PM

Hey, lest you Rushbots be forced to view him as anything but a demigod….I agree with more than 90% of his views (about), I just think he’s a shrewd entertainer and safe as a warm blanket with milk and cookies. He only needs to please those who need him to validate their views.

Yes, he’s a quick study but not really that bright to some of us, which is why it’s the most boring thing in the world to hear 3 hours of pandering and polemical regurgitating.
Too bad if this upsets some of you….you can be a right winger and think Rush is deaf AND dumb.

crashman on January 14, 2011 at 12:57 PM

Rush knows who butters his bread.

Greed on January 14, 2011 at 1:06 PM

But that is just the problem. Krauthammer is objectively smarter than Rush. However, Rush manages to do quite well for himself with his “limited” gifts. In other words, who cares how smart either one of them is? What do they do and how effective are they?

Rush serves to unite and inform the base on a daily basis. That is something we never had before and this dumb guy was smart enough to find a niche and fill it to the tune of ten million dollars a year. Now, if only he was as smart as Krauthammer, he could step out of his niche, be less useful and make 70% less. Genius.

Mr. Obama is attempting to come back as a real force, and as a potentially effective thwarter of Republican intentions, especially on health care. You can see the sweet reason and rope-a-dope coming: If there’s a specific part of the program you have problems with please tell me, let’s work together to make it better.

Republicans will have to meet him with dignity and good faith, and go toe to toe on one thing, the facts. For the facts on this are on their side.

But they should know their adversary. Something is going on with him. He’s showing the signs of someone who has learned from two solid years of embarrassment and unpopularity. Maybe he has “not come back from hell with empty hands.” Maybe he is going to be formidable.

But, he is still the devil. Be fooled at yer peril.

Schadenfreude on January 14, 2011 at 1:25 PM

The speech was professionally composed and edited by a political staff that knew precisely the right words to use. Of course it was a good speech . . . if it wasn’t they they should have fired all those high paid consultants and writers. Obama’s true feelings and beliefs have absolutely nothing to do with the speech.

rplat on January 14, 2011 at 1:28 PM

Just in case anyone missed it…

Rush, who’s a big CK fan, had only this to say about CK’s comments, “And to think, I was going to name my first child, whether a son or a daughter, after him.”

Baby Krauthammer Limbaugh
Mmm mmm mmm!

1. Dupnik is Dupenik, the most culpable bureacrat in this tragedy. Because of his incompetence, this horrible tale happened.

2. Obama is also a Dupenik. Obama failed. He thought that he’s shrewd enough to mix “early campaigning” and “memorial” in the same speech. Obviously his speech is a Campaign Speech … it’s a lie to call it a memorial. It’s a just a campaign speech capitalizing on the “death/misfortune of others”.

3. Obama is an idiot. Thanking Dupnik, the person who should be “stripped” off his uniform due to his incompetence and charged with ‘dereliction of duty/gross negligence/incompetence”

4. Obama and Dupnik are both Dupenik. One is trying to hide his “mea culpa” by blaming others, the other is trying to “get votes” by lying to his own interest in making that speech. BOTH ARE COWARDS RELYING ON LIES AND ACCUSATIONS TO SAVE THEIR POSITIONS IN THE GOVERNMENT (ONE FEDERAL … OTHER OTHER LOCAL)THAT THEY DON’T REALLY DESERVE.

My latino family’s take:

“I’d rather lose with the right guy than win with the wrong one. Palin in 2012.” – Atlas Shrugs (Pamela G.)

TheAlamos on January 14, 2011 at 1:33 PM

University of Arizona brass did not originate the “Together We Thrive” T-shirt. They merely recycled it for Obama—and recycled it in time for what should have been a dignified Memorial for the dead.

If you were a mourner who took home a “Together We Thrive” T-shirt have a look at the bottom of your shirt. “Rocking America and Rocking the Vote” is a common theme of the DNC, and it’s right there on your Memorial T-shirt memento.

Welcome to the era of Obama, where cheering and standing ovations, for the first time in history, became part of the Requiem for the Dead.

Fools will always be fools, and will be exploited, from all sides, as it s/b.

Indecency from the very top of the Obama ladder.

I can not tell the difference between the easily fooled Peggy Noonan and Charles K. I guess they are going to the same cocktail parties.

CK your spittle was everywhere…I had to wipe my TV. Reagan was a principled man. We understood where he stood…John Wayne, Rush, Patton, Bull Hallsy etc… Who knows where you stand; and really, who cares?

AP, the label “RINO” is truth in advertising.

I can be naive (being a man who can’t say NO to his woman) but I think you were being serious…if so, thanks.

I think Rush would be a great guy to have a beer with and he’s a great entertainer….but to be branded for the sin of disagreeing with him and being cynical about his motives makes the right no different than the Marxist left….fall in line or you’re not one of us.

AP pisses people off here sometimes but he’s fighting the libs just like all of us. It’s not a question of values most times, just strategy and correct battles.

T shirts logo taken from 2008 Organizing for America website post.

Bottom of shirt contains “Rocking America Rocking the vote”!

Product of DNC? A few lines of Speech taken from blog post?

That Obama he’s quite a guy and sure talks purty huh SourKraut?

As Rush said today if you want the news you might as well go to British publications , or I add, Canadian, because as liberal as they are at least they are not water carrying Pesstitutes for Obama and the Socialists!

America divided, your either Tea Party or have a T-Shirt, Sour Kraut must have a T-Shirt!

Well, if Chris Christie is a RINO, by virtue of being a NE politician, I wouldn’t call him candyass. He’s one tough dude even if he has views that a NJ candidate needs to …here’s the W word….win.

crashman on January 14, 2011 at 4:05 PM

I understand the scarlet letter of being RINO but hitching your wagon to Rush is like paying a dowry…..clearly only one party benefits. He’s giving everyone what they want to hear and would never go off the reservation….not smart enough to pivot effectively.
crashman on January 14, 2011 at 12:29 PM

Ahh. Smart people “pivot”.

Does that mean smart people can’t take principled stands?

applebutter on January 14, 2011 at 4:26 PM

Well, today the plot thickens. Barack Obama didn’t write the “incredibly articulate” speech (did anyone really think he had?) and the whoop-de-do party atmosphere, T-shirt giveaway, “Together We Thrive” was a product of the President’s White House team.

The slogan comes from the Organizing For America website. The White House was behind the T-shirts. No wonder the President didn’t tell the crowd to quiet down. This was the kick-off for the 2012 campaign, orchestrated by standing on the caskets of 6 innocent Americans, including a little girl. Cynicism doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Typical.

How do you like them apples, Dr. Krauthammer?

hachiban on January 14, 2011 at 4:33 PM

Let’s not forget that Obama was standing in front of an Arizona flag… while he is SUING ARIZONA!!!

He has kept his mouth shut and refused to chastise his own party for rhetoric that is beyond the pale… and then speaks of civility?

Have people LOST their minds in saying this was a great speech? I’m in the twilight zone! He’s the same Obama that has pilloried and vilified the right (terrorists anyone??) since he’s been in public office! And suddenly he’s the POTUS of the UNITED States? I love ya Glenn, but man did you fall off the cliff on this one!! This man is a SNAKE with the same evil agenda as a week ago….

Unreal…

Fox News – and CK in particular – bend over backwards to prove themselves “fair and balanced” with their slavish praise of the One. Big mistake. Fox News wins big time when it gives the facts straight up. As a matter of fact, Fox could end up the next CNN if they don’t wake up and realize why they have been so successful over the last few years. If I want propaganda, I can tune to any other station on the airwaves. Rush gets it. Sarah Palin gets it. There are still enough of us in this country with a brain in our heads who don’t need some middling buffoon telling us all how to behave ourselves. By the way, was attendance at that pep rally mandatory? If I had someone close to me so brutally killed in that manner, there is not a chance in Hell I would have shown up for such a farce! Free t-shirts be damned!

Good point. I was so preoccupied with the thought that the Arizona flag looked like Mao’s rising sun that I lost focus and forgot that fact.

“Willfully gullible” hardly begins to describe anyone who ever thought otherwise.

Cylor on January 15, 2011 at 12:17 AM

Krauthammer’s response was just because he got his feelings hurt. Let us face the issue squarely, Obama may have the oratorical part of leadership down, but when you look at his actual actions and policies- he’s terrible. He comes across as a guy who has no clue how to manage things. Just because someone sounds smart, doesn’t mean that they are smart. And that’s the problem with Obama he sounds smart but does stupid things. If you examine his policies and naive view of the world, we have the equivalent of a Junior undergraduate running the country. It’s that simple.

I thought it was a good speech too. However, Rush is right. It’s not just the president’s speech, but the entire narrative (as of late) of this debate. Tucson was about a insane man who decided he wanted to kill. This was not a lesson in civility. Political rhetoric and heated arguments had nothing to do with this shooting. Yet they still want to pretend that Tucson was about that. It’s Orwellian in its group think, twisted logic and new-speak.

xax on January 15, 2011 at 8:14 AM

I won’t watch the speech… I don’t think Obama belonged there. And as usual the Dems in a very left handed way have used this tragedy to make political points. In this case that means pointing their finger directly at me and other Americans who believe as I do… and blaming us for the murders. They are targeting freedom of speech, and excluding themselves from the blame they falsely imply exist.
-
Their dear Barry has called very blatantly for them to bring a gun to the fight, and also called me the enemy who they should punish. Meanwhile the media continues to find reasons to prop Obama’s sorry ass up. The economy is going down by the minute… But not a peep out of any MSM calling for Barry to be held accountable for his part in the continuing crash. Instead we get this lame hand wringing over leftist Dems acting like mental ward escapees when they attend a somber event.
-
Rush was right… Kraut was wrong.
