Obamateurism of the Day

I’ve heard of digging oneself into a hole. I’ve even heard of the First Rule of Holes, which is that when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. But I’ve never heard of anyone digging themselves out of a hole:
President Obama insisted America was ‘digging itself out of hole’ today as new figures offered a glimmer of hope for the country’s beleaguered economy.
103,000 new jobs were created last month and the unemployment rate dropped to 9.4 percent, its lowest level in 19 months, the Labor Department said.
But the job growth fell short of expectations and the drop in unemployment was mainly because people stopped looking for work. …
The trend is clear – the pace of hiring is beginning to pick up,’ he said as he toured a manufacturing plant in Maryland.
Digging one’s self out of a hole generally means getting mired deeper. Perhaps President Obama was being uncharacteristically honest?
Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at email@example.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
