Hot Air’s top 50 posts in 2010: 41-50

posted at 3:00 pm on December 27, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

The number-crunchers at the Home Office have given us the list of the most-read posts at Hot Air over the past year, thanks to a little wizardry from the database geeks (of which I proudly count myself a member).  Over the next five days, I’ll roll out the list in blocks of 10 as we march through the rest of the year and link back to these posts.  That, of course, will make them even more widely read, but also will give us a chance to look back at some of these issues in perspective.

  • #41 – Day 68: Why isn’t the A-Whale in the Gulf yet? – Two months after the Deepwater Horizon platform caught fire and the Macondo well started spewing 60,000 or more barrels a day of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, no one could come up with an answer as to why the Obama administration hadn’t responded to an offer of help from the Taiwanese company that built the largest open-water oil skimmer in the world.  In the end, its experimental technology didn’t work as planned — but it would have hardly hurt to have it try right from the beginning.
  • #42: Video: New RINO-in-chief crowned – Combine Sarah Palin with Kate Gosselin, and you have traffic gold.  Gosselin’s petulant appearance on Sarah Palin’s Alaska gets the full Allahpundit treatment in this post from exactly two weeks ago, and is a must-read.  To emulate my partner — second look at Jon Gosselin?
  • #43: Video: Letterman’s shocking interview with a tea-party leader – This one’s from March, and it foreshadowed the failure of the media to paint the Tea Party activists as loons and fringe characters.  Pam Stout looks like a kindly aunt, as Ace put it, and gave David Letterman’s audience a jolting lesson in media bias.
  • #44: Paul Ryan to Obama: You realize your bill is a fiscal disaster, right? – To which the answer apparently was, “So what’s your point?”  As it turns out, not only was ObamaCare a fiscal disaster but also a political disaster … as most people realized by the time Obama held this ostentatious debate between opponents and supporters of ObamaCare in Congress.
  • #45: Video: Greta vs Gloria – Greta van Susteren calls Gloria Allred “insane” and “delusional,” while Allred instructs van Susteren on how the Latino mind works.  Susteren ends up beating Allred into dust, especially on legal ethics.  A must-watch.
  • #50: Video: Hecklers interrupt Obama’s speech for Coakley – Perhaps this January 17th post should have alerted the White House to the shocking loss of the Senate seat left vacant by the death of Ted Kennedy in the Massachusetts special election two days later.  Although Brown has voted occasionally with Democrats on specific issues such as DADT, he has also helped sustain Republican filibusters on issues such as the budget, forcing the defeat of the omnibus spending bill this month.

One fun fact from this list: #41 was the only post of this set of ten without audio or video in the post.

Tomorrow, I’ll round up posts 31-40!

I’m gonna venture to say that Palin makes the top 10 in MORE than half of the entries.

dforston on December 27, 2010 at 3:08 PM

Ten bucks says Palin, Palin, Palin, a*n* s*x (for Jenfidel) and Palin rank top ten.

Is there a video version of this post?

lorien1973 on December 27, 2010 at 3:09 PM

#46: Bombshell: Democratic Senate candidate lied about serving in Vietnam – Who would have thought that a Senate candidate could lie about his combat record and still win election to the US Senate? Or, arguably, two of them in the same year? Most of us thought Dick Blumenthal was toast on May 17th. Instead, he coasted.

Makes no difference if he coasted or not. In the eyes of VietNam vets who ACTUALLY served in VietNam during the war,
Dick Blumenthal is, has been, and always will be an untrustworthy scumbucket liar.

I mean, you can’t help it that the people of his state were stupid enough to believe his B.S. story.

pilamaye on December 27, 2010 at 3:13 PM

Recall almost every one. One of my personal favorites at the time was the Coakley discussion. She went down with a bang!!! Hee hee!! That’s probably because I’m a New Englander though.

#41 is rather week since ALL the reports in ALL media were pretty non-factual. It’s a good thing that Obama is so damned dumb he could have made mincemeat out of a lot of the backlash, except for Jindal/Nungesser claims.

Kermit on December 27, 2010 at 3:23 PM

Great idea, Ed. Fun.

Also, thanks for adding transcripts under the videos. Often I prefer to read it, rather than watch. (And if the clip starts with an ad, I almost always shut it off ASAP.)

Nope! It was Monica. She later topped it off with:

Awesome roundup. Thank you Ed and AP both for all the work you do.

I had not watched the “teaprty lady” video before, that was pretty awesome. It was pretty funny watching the host flail about, trying to find an issue he could use to make that nice lady look like a lunatic. Epic Fail.

I’m a sucker for end-of-year retrospectives, “best of” lists, and readers’ picks like these stories. I’m guessing we’ll see plenty of posts about Palin, Beck and the usual traffic bait. Hot Air has been my go-to news site during an eventful year. Thank you, Ed and AP.

Terrie on December 27, 2010 at 3:52 PM

#43 & #45 were good ones. That Tea Party lady was wonderful on Letterman. Shocking that SNL did a decent skit mocking Gloria.

conservative pilgrim on December 27, 2010 at 3:56 PM

This one’s from March, and it foreshadowed the failure of the media to paint the Tea Party activists as loons and fringe characters. Pam Stout looks like a kindly aunt, as Ace put it, and gave David Letterman’s audience a jolting lesson in media bias.

Um, no. She was a perfectly nice person, but the substance of her views were just at “out there” as the media caricature would suggest. I don’t think anyone thinks Tea Partiers are foaming at the mouth, or evil. They just have profoundly stupid and misguided views. The woman on Letterman’s show reinforced that notion.

The Gosselin-Palin video was a total hoot. If Katie had attended just one trip with our Boy Scout Troop, she and her whining would have been both laughed out of the shelter and told to suck it up and adapt. I can see that no Scouting experience awaits any of her children.

No, I was referring to her charming little foray into birtherism, and her inexplicable assertion that the US economy would be better served by letting GM collapse (presumably because she believes another massive, multinational American-based auto company would instantly spring up, thereby replacing the jobs lost due to GM’s failure). Those are just flat-out stupid views, and I don’t see how the fact that they were enunciated by a nice, agreeable old woman changes that.

crr6 on December 27, 2010 at 5:02 PM

damn cool, Ed. I had no idea we’d get these back. Poor Ed spends the last 10 days of the year managing all the polls n’ such (when he’s not shoveling snow and watching the Metrodome collapse like Favre’s career).

We were told GM needed to be bailed out so they wouldn’t go bankrupt. GM was never in any danger of being liquidated. That is some fantasy dreamed up by liberals to justify pushing through this huge union payoff.

So, we bailed out GM and they turned around and declared bankruptcy anyway. So, nothing was averted while the government transferred billions to the union via this “bailout”.

It was a shell game. The smart people never lost sight of the pea, it’s all the dopes such as yourself who thought it was under one of the shells when it was really in Obama’s hand.
