Oh my: No invite for Obama to British royal wedding

posted at 4:56 pm on December 17, 2010 by Allahpundit

Hey — if you gave gifts as crappy as the ones this guy gives, you’d be left off a lot of invite lists too. It’s bad enough that his grand gesture to the queen last year was an iPod, but imagine her horror when she booted it up and saw what was on it.

Frankly, I’m surprised they haven’t sent our ambassador home yet.

Because Prince William is not yet heir to the throne, his wedding to Kate Middleton is not classed as a ‘state occasion’ – and the couple feel under no pressure to fill the 2,000-strong guest list with heads of state, the Mail understands.

They are more eager to ask ordinary citizens and charity workers than foreign dignitaries and VIPs to what will be the first royal ‘people’s wedding’, courtiers suggested.

A handful of heads of state are likely to be invited in line with previous royal weddings, possibly including France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni…

A senior courtier said: ‘It is certainly not the case that all foreign heads of state will be excluded. The guest list is still being drawn up and could change, but as things stand it’s right (to say Mr Obama will not be invited).’

Oddly enough, this snub made me appreciate just how much The One has in common with the average joe. Think about it: His co-workers are pains in the ass; he comes home after a long day and gets nagged by his wife for not eating right; he goes outside and has to pick dog crap up off of his lawn; and now he has to deal with awkward, petty social snubs inside his circle of “friends.” He really is just like us.

Exit question: Deliberate omission by the royal family aimed at repaying Obama’s chilliness towards the UK, or simple pragmatism aimed at keeping this mega clusterfark of security concerns surrounding the wedding from becoming a super ultra mega clusterfark? Or could there be … another explanation?

Blowback

The Royals hate muslims?

SouthernGent on December 17, 2010 at 7:04 PM

Oh, praise the Lord! I was cringing at just the thought of FLINO showing up in some tacky, ugly, unflattering, & tasteless dress, probably in white just to show she has absolutely no ettiquette. Now, I can rest easy and enjoy the wedding when it’s televised. Whew!

I’m sure they will send him a DVD of the event!

Maybe a highlights dvd of some of the ‘best of British Royal Weddings’! Plus an extra special ‘Best of Winston Churchill’ MP3 player…

In what universe is Carla Bruni, former model, compared unfavorably with friggin’ Michelle Obama?

NoLeftTurn on December 17, 2010 at 7:19 PM

Eh, have you ever planned an event.. and took a second look at the invitees and decided, “Neh, not them”.

It’s the Obama Moment. I shall make tee shirts: “Neh, Not Them”.

Er… while you all wet yourselves over how classy those Royals are, look who Prince Harry (thick as two planks, and much more likeable than his prissy older brother, IMHO) is snogging. Allegedly.

I wonder if they’ll invite Princess Di’s 10th cousin…. Sarah Palin! ;)

Why I wouldn’t want the Obama’s at my Wedding… Spoken with a haughty John-Kerry-Like-Fake-English Accent:

1. Large women frighten meh.

2. Dainty men intrigue me, but only for so long. I do love to stare, if only for incognito mewments, ahahahaha.

3. I would perish the thought of anyone over compensating themselves at the pork barrel bowl.

4. Smawl tan colored men intrigue me. I cun’t say why.

5. I dewn’t undertahnd why the OweBahmh’s were not invited to this event. Oh, You shan’t say that it was because of that woman’s awefole dressing habits?

/Dear, dear me. What a dreadful situation this will be.

This isn’t too tough!
If you weren’t family would you invite “Cousin Eddie”?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EpCvdHDrQk&NR=1

I bet the Royals know Americans are hurting, the dollar is being devalued, the Ruskies and Chinese won’t trade in it, and the “Cousin Eddie” clan has used up 32 weeks of vacation in two years so in the interest of good allied relations don’t want Americans to have to fork over a ton of worthless dollars to send the “Cousin Eddie Clan” on an extended overseas trip again.
Besides Mochelle don’t look good with her hands all over the Royals and “Cousin Eddie” Barrack might offer up a toast to himself and his fab first two years, ad infinitum!

No one wants ghetto trash at their wedding.

Alden Pyle on December 17, 2010 at 9:38 PM

I bet they are invited before it’s all said and done.

Cindy Munford on December 17, 2010 at 9:39 PM

They really do give crappy gifts. My money is on that being the primary reason for the non-invite. That and the fact that Michelle is now wearing thrift store clothes to complement the curtains and bed spreads she usually wears to formal events.

The “me me me” man would also attempt to shift the focus of the event to himself because he’s “pushy” and inexplicably controversial and the day should be about the happy couple – not President Petulant and the dime-store dame he hooked up with. It’s just one strike too many.

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Given Obama’s propensity to make everything — no matter how seemingly small and trivial — all about him, I’m sure the royal family wanted to avoid Obama usurping the wedding day of another couple to talk about how wonderful he thinks it is…

Me, on the other hand, I’d give a kidney to be able to go to this wedding.

Sorry to spoil the party i am in the U.K,it’s to do with security.
I don’t know whether you know but any U.S President coming here does not travel light.
It’s a nightmare for our police and security services, your own people nearly lock down the whole capital and costs us a fortune and pisses us off.

As you can imagine the security for this wedding will be huge we need to be protecting them and us all and not be distracted by
any of your leaders ,it would be the same if Bush was in power.

You are all a bunch of hypocrities for claiming you want a special relationship when the rhetoric on this site is anti-British.

Most recent involving the release of the Lockerbie bomber
and calls to Boycott us.
You all dragged us into your healthcare care debate with ill informed and insulting knowledge of the N.H.S .

You see, that’s Obama’s “smart power” at work.

Maybe William & Katie can see what low-class, social climbing, ego-maniacal upstarts BO & MO really are & just plain old don’t like them.

Dark Star on December 19, 2010 at 3:44 AM

They ought to put the bust of Churchill in a pew, in the Obama seat.

Some of the Royals got a chance to meet Obama. Had he in some way charmed them, or at least connected with them, he might have gotten an invite.

The gift of a recording of one’s own speeches is never a way to soften hearts, in particular when Obama already slobbered all over the likes of Chavez and seems to have a soft spot for Ahmadinejad

A crass but intelligent politican, which Obama is not, would have begged for a chance to coordinate charitable activities with the charitably minded young couple, offered to help them help the helpless. It would have to appear sincere, and that is asking a lot. No problem getting Obama to hug Chavez, but I cannot imagine Obama hugging a member of the Churchillian class.

entagor on December 19, 2010 at 12:33 PM

So mags — wouldn’t it make more sense from a cost-cutting point of view if you just pulled your tacky unarmed security personnel, invited O and his bubble-butted missus over, and let American / White House security run the whole road show? I mean, there’s ample precedence both for America to step in and protect your bony British asses AND to pay for the privilege of doing so.

“Oversexed, overpaid, over here” … and it evidently hasn’t changed an iota.

(I do hate to be snarky about this because I adore the Queen, but – sheesh – the Brits have become even more unsufferable than New York liberals.)

No invite for Obama to British royal wedding

The inappropriate and unplayable CD and disrespect of the Churchill bust disqualified the Obamas as desirable guests.

Also, the couple didn’t want a life-size statue of Obama wedding gift.
