Got this email from Sen. Kirk just now:

Dear Friends,

Last night, economic conservatives won with the collapse of the Omnibus appropriations spending bill. A growing number of Americans opposed it. Your voice was heard.

Senator Reid announced to the Senate that we would not move forward with a 1,924 page, $1.1 trillion bill containing 6,600 earmarks. Earlier in the day, I joined with 12 other newly-elected Senators in sending a letter to the Majority Leader urging him to halt this massive spending bill. Change is coming to Washington as Congress moves forward with a much less expensive and responsible short-term Continuing Resolution that will cost less, allowing essential government functions to continue until the newly elected Senators and Congressman take office January 5th.

The American people won.

This is why having Kirk is a good thing. He’s no Rand Paul, but this is Illinois.

Allah, you missed the point of the exercise.

Everyone in the R Party and Conservatives flip-flopped on this bill, partly or wholly. Even my favorite Sen. DeMint and Ryan were forced to bend some of their earlier positions on this Ombninus Corruption Bill.

Except probably Sarah Palin.

The elephant in the room that seems to go unnoticed is that there isn’t a single appropriation bill passed by this Congress for FY2011. Everything was in the omnibus bill. This Congress is the failure of all failures.

A quarter of the serving military stated they wouldn’t reelist if DADT is repealed. That’s about 500,000 people, do you think that many gays have been waiting to join?

Well in fairness, why even bother having those 500K people? We don’t fight wars to win anymore. The military is sent to Afghanistan for 10 years to dodge bullets without the ability to fire back. Maybe it’s best to let those 500K people go do something more productive with their lives.

Am I correct that S510, the major expansion of FDA authority over food, had been bundled into the Omnibus Spending Bill to get around the procedural problem that it should have originated in the House? And if so, does the death of the Omnibus Spending Bill mean S510 is dead, or is it now (or could it end up) somewhere else?

Both Reid and Pelosi have been humiliated today. Pelosi had to postpone the vote on the tax cut deal, and Reid can’t ram the Omnibus spending bill through.

Lame ducks . . . both will remain in their leadership positions in the next Congress, too, proving the Democrats are virtually ineducable.

Time to get on the phones. Demand a no vote on the Dream Act. I personally don’t think it’s up to me on DADT, as I feel the troops should decide this, since it’s them that will have to deal with it…but I personally don’t see this as a big issue.

The dream act will break us, and create such resentment. It’s wrong, and if we’re going for fair, how is this fair to all the tax payers? It will break us. First thing tomorrow, I’m going to be burning phone lines of my representatives.

Then do me a favor, as someone going to MEPS in the morning 5:30 for a physical waiver (been denied since 2003, but think I can make it this time), please support DADT and keep homosexuals out of my unit and my basic training.

No one would let me shower with a girl due to my sexual attraction to them, don’t let men who are sexually attracted to men get to shower with us.
