Video: New “Yogi Bear” movie actually a tearjerking dramatic masterpiece

posted at 6:27 pm on December 14, 2010 by Allahpundit

Sheer brilliance, although I think it helps if you don’t know the movie from which this scene was lifted. It’s not that it’ll spoil the surprise — the comic genius of this clip is that there is no surprise, that you know instantly how it’s going to go — but it’s less fun to think of it as a satire on some other flick than as a situation evolving organically between the characters. I was doubled over in laughter the first time I saw it. In fact, it’s so funny, and has exploded so hugely online, that apparently even Warner Bros. is okay with it. Although I’m not sure why: How can anyone fail to be disappointed by the real “Yogi Bear” movie after watching this? Then again, how can anyone fail to be disappointed by the real “Yogi Bear” movie, period?

If John Ford had lived long enough to make westerns starring sub-moronic animated bears, this would be that movie.

Honestly, I knew what movie it was from the second the music started, and I laughed uncontrollably the entire time.

If only the movie ended that way. It’s the only way they can top “Tron: Legacy” opening this weekend.

I need to watch the movie, clearly.

Aside from that, I want to squeeze Boo Boo he’s so painfully adorable. :)

It was all staged. Yogi is retired now, living in Florida.

GarandFan on December 14, 2010 at 7:03 PM

Jesse James? I thought it was from the ending of “Of Mice and Men.” Steinbeck’s novel.

Movie version: Gary Sinise shoots Jon Malkovich.

SteveMG on December 14, 2010 at 7:05 PM

I get it! It’s a snuff Christians film.

I got the link to this yesterday and the view count was 310.

Pretty impressive.

jjshaka on December 14, 2010 at 7:07 PM

An adage in Hollywood: a movie’s chance of being good decreases in inverse proportion to the number of writers. This one had three writers. Prospects could be worse.

rrpjr on December 14, 2010 at 7:09 PM

So Yogi ends up a bear skin rug. Huh!

I’m told there’s a joke in there, somewhere.

Kini on December 14, 2010 at 7:10 PM

I can’t count the number of times I’ve wanted to do that – just to shut the wiseazz up!

OldEnglish on December 14, 2010 at 7:16 PM

Well all I can say is FINALLY!
Yogi has always been extremely annoying.
And he treats Boo Boo like $hit.
Serves him right, the ba$tard.

Badger40 on December 14, 2010 at 7:17 PM

My girls are actually excited to see this thing. And if they’re laughing, I’m laughing. They just won’t get to see the Yogi Bear online parody.

Nethicus on December 14, 2010 at 7:20 PM

Very well done. And my sense of humor is twisted enough to have laughed at it.

The fact that Warner Brothers is okay with it is kind of the funniest thing about it.

Slublog on December 14, 2010 at 7:26 PM

That Yogi The Bear Looked just Like John Boehner except he wasn’t blubbering like a baby!

I guess BooBoo must be OBLahBlah.
“Nice compromise …sucker….even when you win you lose!”

dhunter on December 14, 2010 at 7:27 PM

I think Yogi looks a little like Boehner…

tinkerthinker on December 14, 2010 at 7:29 PM

The only thing funnier would be a disclaimer at the end stating no bears were harmed during the production of this video.

fourdeucer on December 14, 2010 at 7:31 PM

So am I the only person who didn’t see this Jesse James movie? Maybe that’s why I didn’t think this was that funny. Boo Boo had those Puss in Boots from Shrek eyes going, that was cute. The rug part was funny though.

Deanna on December 14, 2010 at 7:35 PM

It was all staged. Yogi is retired now, living in Florida.

HA! Never saw the Jesse James movie, but know the story. Pretty good stuff.

XWing5 on December 14, 2010 at 8:12 PM

Never seen the JJ movie. I figured it was a parody of that as soon as Yogi grabbed the chair. I do wish it was a parody of The Godfather with Yogi as Fredo.

RalphyBoy on December 14, 2010 at 8:20 PM

I got a good laugh. I always hated that f’ing bear. Next I want to see Woody Woodpecker with a broken wing entertaining a cat then that little sh*t mouse Jerry get a massive dose of warfarin.

deadman on December 14, 2010 at 8:53 PM

Nick Cave’s soundtrack …one of the best in recent memory.

Very clever.

The Ugly American on December 14, 2010 at 8:56 PM

Not funny at all. Of course the moron AP would find it amusing. You suck. Always have.

echosyst on December 14, 2010 at 9:04 PM

Any humor here completely eluded me.

Kevin K. on December 14, 2010 at 9:16 PM

I don’t like Boehner as leader, but shooting him in the back is a little extreme. Just make him sit in the back with his handkerchief and keep his mouth shut until Ohio replaces him with a fighter!

dhunter on December 14, 2010 at 9:28 PM

I screamed “somebody killed my husband” like Jackie.

rickyricardo on December 14, 2010 at 9:33 PM

If you didn’t see the JJ movie of ’07 you won’t see how funny this is.

BL@KBIRD on December 14, 2010 at 10:14 PM

Meh. An okay clip, the movie was forgettable.

slickwillie2001 on December 14, 2010 at 11:14 PM

The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford
Great book, terrible movie. Doesn’t even come close to “The Long Riders” (which really pissed off the animal rights crowd when they found out that all the pigs shot during one of the scenes were actually shot – Walter Hill likes his action as real as possible). Also one of the best soundtracks evah!

SaintGeorgeGentile on December 15, 2010 at 12:05 AM

So am I the only person who didn’t see this Jesse James movie? Maybe that’s why I didn’t think this was that funny. Boo Boo had those Puss in Boots from Shrek eyes going, that was cute. The rug part was funny though.

Deanna on December 14, 2010 at 7:35 PM

Consider yourself lucky not to have seen it.

SaintGeorgeGentile on December 15, 2010 at 12:08 AM

If Boo boo had used the gun to shoot the writers, director, producer and voice actors for the actual Yogi Bear movie, it would have been a a lot more funny appropriate.

jon1979 on December 15, 2010 at 12:22 AM

The only thing funnier would be the Yogi Bear rug being in Sarah Palin’s house. Just that thought makes me giggle. lol
McBaine on December 14, 2010 at 6:53 PM

…Nah. Now seeing a stuffed Allahpundit on Sarah’s wall?
THAT would be funny.

BemusedMalkinite on December 15, 2010 at 12:27 AM

Yogi Bear was a stupid cartoon. I don’t see how the movie could improve on that stupidity.

zoyclem on December 15, 2010 at 7:04 AM

Hollywood writers apparently have no creativity either, or this type unoriginal fare wouldn’t ever see the big screen.

zoyclem on December 15, 2010 at 7:05 AM

If only the original movie had been that short… The one with Brad Pitt in it.

Fallon on December 15, 2010 at 8:31 AM

Parody: The Yogi death scene is modeled on The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford.

Jesse James got his start by being 1) a terrorist for 2) the Confederacy. He deserved getting shot in the back. Bank robbing is just stealing other people’s money. And not rich people’s money either.

rbj on December 15, 2010 at 8:42 AM

I thought it was funny if only because the trailers for this movie were so awful. We sat through the trailer at both Megamind and Tangled, and then my husband and I told our kids there was no way we were taking them to see Yogi Bear. We could hardly stand to watch the trailer; no way we were going to make it through 2 hours of that! I haven’t seen the Jesse James movie, but I’m familiar with the story. I recognized the reference once he climbed on the chair.
