Quotes of the day
posted at 9:00 pm on December 12, 2010 by Allahpundit
“What happened here has, to my knowledge, never happened. When the president finishes speaking, whenever the president finishes speaking, the event ends. Period.
“Not any longer.
“President Obama can change the rules of etiquette governing his White House if he wants. The problem for him is that those rules of etiquette exist for a reason. They are intended to enforce the standing of the presidency itself. By breaching them, Obama did harm to his own standing, and at a time when he can ill afford to lose any more of his authority…
“Washington froze in wonder at this momentary trip into the past. The sheer strangeness of the sight of Clinton alone at that podium crystallized the sense that the American political system (or more specifically, the Democratic party) had spun out of control over the course of the week.”
***
“It’s easy to understand why liberals are feeling a bit whiplashed. In the blink of an eye, they went from advancing the most progressive agenda since the Great Society to defending against a tax-cut bill that they say provides a windfall for the wealthiest Americans at the expense of everyone else…
“But as they throw a tantrum over a tax compromise that stands little chance of being rejected in the end, liberals risk further isolating themselves from a new political paradigm in which Obama, congressional Republicans and a healthy contingent of more moderate Democrats have coalesced around the package of tax cuts and unemployment benefits.
“Centrist Democrats warn that their liberal counterparts could do enough damage to themselves and to Obama to reassure independent voters who cast ballots for Republicans this year…
“One senior Democratic aide said the tax proposal is ‘going to pass’ and that the liberal complaining is ‘just going to make us look that much more irrelevant’ in the end.”
***
“For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of President Obama…
“[R]ather than caving in to liberals’ complaints and allowing Democrats on Capitol Hill to take the lead – as Obama did to his peril over the past two years – he has pushed back with the full force of his office. In private persuasion and in public talk, the White House has delivered to disgruntled liberals a message summed up by Vice President Biden in a private session with lawmakers on Wednesday: Take it or leave it…
“One White House official told me that Obama will build a ‘shifting set of coalitions, issue by issue’ over the next two years. If so, and if Obama will no longer allow those in the Capitol to run his presidency, he’ll have a strong couple of years.”
***
“After watching a clip of Obama exiting Friday’s press conference and handing the reigns to President Clinton, NPR’s Mara Liasson commented: ‘I do believe that if President Obama is re-elected, the people who write the books on it will show this week as the week when things started to turn around for him. Not only with the deal itself, but also the fact that the White House seems to have gotten over its Clinton-phobia, where they used to eschew everything and every strategy that Clinton ever did. And now, they realize there is something to learn from what Bill Clinton did when he had a divided government…Obama shows that he has no problem with that. It’s a good sign about a leader.’”

Unbelievable. I mean, really, it’s hard to believe this is an educated American citizen working in a profession that requires her to analyze civic affairs. But it’s not so much her analytical gyro that has spun off its rocker, but a bent and broken moral framework. She lives in a world in which it is more important that a liberal President has gotten over some imagined personal animus toward a former liberal president than the fact he spews venom toward the opposition party one day and walks dismissively out of his own press conference the next. Yes, this is certainly a sign of growth in leadership and presidential temperament.
Underlying it all, of course, is her desperate need for Obama to “turn it around”, her desperate search for signals, the one signal, that this has happened.

SHOW: FOX HANNITY 9:13 PM EST
December 10, 2010 Friday
Analysis With S.E. Cupp, Julie Roginsky
***************************************
HANNITY: All right. Here with reaction to all of this is daily caller, senior writer and Daily News columnist S.E. Cupp and democratic strategist Julie Roginsky is here. All right. So, you’ve slant — to the left, are you angry at the anointed one?
JULIE ROGINSKY, DEMOCRATIC STRATEGIST: I am a little angry to the anointed one. That’s not what we anointed him for. But, he, you know, my problem with him is actually not with the base, my problem with him is more political. First of all, he’s got to show some backbone. The fact that 95 percent of all Americans tax breaks were held hostage to help the very, very richest among us is something that he could have won an argument over. He did not need to capitulate. He could have got and he uses bully pulpit. Secondly, he is just pushing and kicking the can down the road. In two years, we’ll have to have this fight again in a presidential year. And if I were a democrat, taxes is not what I want to run on my election rank.
S.E. CUPP, COLUMNIST: It is a very politically poisonous move that the Democrats are going to have to deal with it again in 2012. That is not good. But, I mean, I’m not sure, I mean, politically this is — and economically absolutely the right thing to do in terms of, you know, not taxing the top income earners in the country. These are the people who hire, these are the people who spend money, this is absolutely.

I agree completely , BUT IF,
OBlah BLah manages to get this great “Compromise” through the House and Senate, the “Compromise” he negotiated with an uncontrollably sobbing Boehner, loaded up with ethanol, alternate fuel susidies and a TAX INCREASE on ESTATES,
then the “foolish King” just bent the Republicans over the table and gave em a good… (well do I need to complete that?).
So, the Republicans, fresh off a resounding electoral victory, thanks to the Tea Party Patriots and Sarah Palin running on stop the pork and spending, as the first order of business, pass a tax INCREASE and more subsidies for proven foolish and ineffective alternative energy fantasies!
The Boy King Won the Republican NEUTERATY ZERO!
YOU won you dam fools pass nothing until the new majority and then ONLY stand alone porkless bills.
My geezer Grassley by the ways loves him some ethanol pork and I happen to own ethanol stock.
In its present form ethanol is a joke!
dhunter on December 12, 2010 at 11:06 PM
What should happen from now on, until this Zero of a boob is unelected… is that a few of the press should relinquish their passes to the homeless, unemployed, and illiterates so that they can have their questions answered by… Gibbs, or Bill, or what ever other unqualified a** king Barry sends out to deliver the crumbs and lies of the day.
-
Of course Mara laps this sh*t up… She’d be happy if Obama declared himself King and Ruler for Ever.

Yeah, surprised the ethanol is in there when even fat Al admitted on the record that maybe the whole thing was not such a good idea.

Yeah, the same ruling class that brought us Obama, (and McCain), now pines for Clinton, who helped create the sub prime mortgage mess in the first place and failed to adequately deter terrorism, contributing to 9/11.
They pine for their guy Clinton, a failure, to escape their guy Obama, a failure—yet they disdain the tea party.
The ruling class is imbecilic.

This is a perfect example of less is more, in her wonderful delivery and in her message of limited government.

If you’re the star, you don’t need intellect at a party, or while on vacation, or at a special dinner or while driving around in the limo, or while standing in front of TOTUS reading whatever words are in front of your face. You need intellect at a press conference when being asked questions about difficult things that face the nation. You need intellect at meetings with people who know facts, histories and numbers. It’s so much easier to be President at a party. At a party, all you have to do is show up. Nobody expects you to talk about difficult things. And if someone brings something up like they do from time to time out while he’s eating ice cream with the girls, he can say “Hey, I’m eating ice cream with my girls right now” Or “I’m at a Christmas Party right now, lets save that for later!”

Can we all agree that Friday Obama jumped the shark. i don’t know how he recovers from that. I see no pathway to victory from that. He walked away. He is done. Over finished. Getting rerports that the serbs backed by the russioans are making trouble in kosovo, the NK backed by the chineese are backing trouble in SK, Iran is making trouble for Britian emabassy, and there is arenewal of violence in the middle east. Afganistian say its bloodiest day in years this weekend. The world is coming unglue. Our enemies are on the move and the POTUS goes to a christmas party.

Not really being discussed, -the massive disrespect shown Bammie by Bill. Bill knows the protocol, when the President leaves, the PC is supposed to be over. Bill treated Bammie like a nobody emcee at one of the dozens of two-bit speeches he does.

I liked tonight’s show as well.
I tell ya, Sarah looks very good pumping away on that new shotgun. You could tell that she was loving that.
Chuck is awesome. hell the whole family is awesome. For this reason alone we must put them in the White House.
That was the first time I saw Kate on TV. No wonder her old man ran off! Her kids were cute though. They were having a blast.
BTW, speaking of loons.
Now the left is claiming Sarah took her hairdresser to Haiti with her. Greta was there and posting some photos. In one of the photos her “hair dresser” was resetting a hair pin that had come out.
To the loony left that equals getting one’s hair done.
Oh, and her “hair dresser”? Bristol!

Look, I’m no Clinton fan. He gets too much credit for what the Republican Congress did from 1995 to 1998. Clinton could be as thin-skinned and whiny as Obama on occasion. But Obama outsourcing his presidential duties to Clinton, however briefly, invited unflattering comparisons to The One’s alleged strength as a communicator and made his position as leader of the free world seem very small and unimportant. I almost — almost — wished Clinton back. Aside from a few loyal holdouts in the media, does anyone really still think Obama is an exceptionally smart man?

Boehner’s distinction between “common ground” and “compromise” that Democrats don’t distinguish.
maverick muse on December 13, 2010 at 6:59 AM
I’m also encouraged by the “dispect” point that Boehner establishes.
One would be hard pressed to find “common ground” with a Potus full of disrespect for Constitutional Governance, unless you disregard the Constitution, as well.
And progressives would compromise, as ever, the Constitution. So Boehner himself had better find his common ground with the Tea Party, or his House Speaker position will be short lived.

Don’t kid yourselves -the agenda is too important not to allow for the ocassional necessary transgression. That they will screw their own in the process, is not a surprising diversion, but merely a foreshadowing of what’s to come for all of us.
Just ask the black community if they’re no longer dependent “victims” since the “Great Society” was created.
They’re in the same boat that the pro-life people are with the right -just a convenient voting block to be strung along as needed.

Obama doesn’t consider his current job as being the President of the United States – just a continuation of his community organizer activities, where he made of the rules as he went along according to his goals at that moment.
Just as he has ignored the history of this country unless it relates to white man’s greed, he has ignored the history and decorum of the Presidency. His campaign seal waa your first hint.

What a ridiculous thing to do. I understand why Mr. President thought it was a good thing to do, because he’s a feckless rump who would rather be at a party than try to govern. But why would Clinton think this made sense? He’s been president, he knows it was a boneheaded move. Are they both nuts?
