Great news: Bill Clinton apparently now president again

posted at 5:49 pm on December 10, 2010 by Allahpundit

The depressing truth: Given the alternative, it really would be great news.

I can’t do justice to what you’re about to see. The spectacle of the president bugging out of his own press conference to go to a Christmas party is weird enough, but having Clinton back at the White House podium fielding questions on the hottest domestic issue of the day shoots past deja vu and lands firmly in “am I hallucinating?” territory. (The good news: It turned Twitter into an hour-long snark free-for-all, with Michael Goldfarb taking first prize.) I get that The One’s trying to leverage BJ’s popularity to pressure Democratic fencesitters on the tax deal. What I don’t get is why he’d leave him alone to address reporters, suggesting either (a) that Obama doesn’t respect a former president — who’s doing him a favor — enough to change his schedule to accommodate him or (b) Obama’s confidence in his own ability to influence the caucus is now so low that he figures the tax deal will stand a better chance if he just gets out of the spotlight entirely. The second option seems implausible given what we know of The One’s ego, but after yesterday’s revolt in the House and after a full year of epic fail in selling ObamaCare to the public, who knows what he’s thinking anymore? As a presidential scholar said to McClatchy, putting it mildly, “He is not a great persuader.”

Adding to the exquisite oddness of the scene: Thanks to his op-ed this morning insisting that Obama totally rolled the GOP on the tax cuts deal, Charles Krauthammer is now “a brilliant man” in Clinton’s eyes. Exit question: The White House is very keen to reassure liberals that Obama is not, repeat not, trying to “triangulate” ahead of 2012. Er, is a big showy meeting at the White House with Bill Clinton really the best way to communicate that message? What’s next, a joint press conference with Dick Morris? Click the image to watch.

the smaller dumb liar nowhere to run but to mama.

This is a SNL skit just scearming to be made.

One thing I want to add. When Clinton leans forward on the podium to listen to that first question after Obama leaves, he’s obviously at ease being there and totally engaged and enjoying interaction with the press. The contrast with Obama’s remoteness is stark.

INC on December 11, 2010 at 12:51 AM

Good job for Bill Clinton.

Obama will really be indebted: More dedicated WH interns willing and grateful to service Bill Clinton then, huh!

Yep. It makes me thinks if Obama even wants the job?

I always the Left was barking up the wrong tree when they were saying the WH has a messaging problem. Uh, after today….I think they are right. It DEFINITELY has a messaging problem. Gibbs and his whole team needs to be fired immediately. He’s doing a horrible job. He should have never let this presser happen.

terryannonline on December 11, 2010 at 12:58 AM

Obama is a chihuahua who chased a Mack truck and caught it. It’s hard to imagine anything he can do now that will show how completely “above his pay grade” this office is, more than this absolutely inane performance. The sad thing is this once great country is in a downward spiral that is ever quickening as Democrats keep pushing us into the abyss.

Love how many people, even on the right, actually respect this sleazeball. I guess time softens everything for some people, even rape and treason.

Grayson on December 11, 2010 at 2:13 AM

Apart from demonstrating once again that Obama is a pathetic empty suit when it comes to being effective, it also shows how his odd working history has made even the most basic elements of a work ethic totally alien to him. The man just picks up and leaves when he gets bored.

Cicero43 on December 10, 2010 at 6:11 PM

Valerie Jarret described him as utterly bored with the mundane lives of mere mortals. Since he’s allegedly a combination of Einstein and Jesus Christ (or Allah), he has the right to just walk out and go amuse himself with golf, basketball or ice cream whenever the petty concerns of the untermenschen get on his nerves.

Adultery and perjury for sure, but rape and treason? That’s bordering on ‘Bush lied, people died’.

You-Eh-Vee on December 11, 2010 at 2:51 AM

I don’t think this is a power vacuum. It’s just a spectacular display of gross incompetence. I wouldn’t fear a coup from within, but if I were an enemy of this country, I’d be thinking, “I can’t believe my luck!” right about now.

NoLeftTurn on December 11, 2010 at 3:05 AM

I am absolutely dumbfounded. I never thought I’d see something like this. I cannot imagine another President ceded his stature and authority in this manner.

INC on December 10, 2010 at 5:53 PM

Well, let’s see how long Obama stays after this one. Full term? I’ve been saying for MONTHS no full term. Do I feel better? Yes. Too bad the entertainment we had came to a screeching halt. Things will stabilize (I hope), and Cankles is laughing her big butt off somewhere in the world.

HillBuzz should be in ecstasy.

terryannonline on December 11, 2010 at 12:58 AM

He doesn’t. He wants to take his ball and go home, but unfortunately, he’s 30,000 ft. in the air on a 2 year flight.

It’s sad, really sad, but I actually felt a surge of relief when I saw Clinton behind that podium on his own. Say what you will about Bubba, but he could handle himself behind a podium. Obama looks like a bored professor annoyed with his students’ questions.

Obama has quite an extensive resume of Golf Games, WH Parties, & jetting around on AF1..

The progressives have been demanding all week that Obama fight (FIGHT!); he hands over the presser to Clinton and strolls off to a party. Next up, Clinton to appear at SOTU speech in January!

Saudi media fall for Obama Muslim joke

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA – When a US satirist joked that President Barack Obama will admit to Congress that he is Muslim in his latest compromise with Republicans, Saudi media took it seriously.

On Friday the online version of Al-Hayat newspaper and the prominent news website Sabq.org both reported straightforwardly humourist Andy Borowitz’s column that began:

“In his latest effort to find common ground with Republicans in Congress, President Barack Obama said today that he was willing to agree that he is a Muslim.”

All this did was make independents and even liberals, I presume, nostalgic for Clinton and his superior communication skills over the current President. In other words, Obama just dissed himself and his base must be even more disgusted with him.

Now some are expressing concern that Zero may have to delay his Christmas vacation:

Yet Dana Millbank at the WaPo is saying he’s proud that Zero “stood his ground.”

Hey Dana, I guess you must feel pretty stupid about now.

dogsoldier on December 11, 2010 at 9:14 AM

For a half-hour yesterday, it was like America rode in Prof. Emmett Brown’s DeLorean back to the 90s. Clinton lectured about economics and nuclear arms. He bit his lip and fielded questions flawlessly, like Elmer Gantry firing up a bunch of believers in a tent revival…and all without a teleprompter.

kingsjester on December 11, 2010 at 9:33 AM

I don’t recall Bill Clinton being appointed to any positions other than the one he had under his desk. He and Hillary just think they own the place don’t they? What the hell is going on here?

and damn the string pullers who moved him to the front of the line to the White House. Our system was abused and no one is doing a thing about it.

johnnyU on December 11, 2010 at 10:06 AM

All of the press should ahve left when the Prez did and reported in their stories on how he blew them all off. Bill Clinton is not apoointed to anything that I am aware of.

johnnyU on December 11, 2010 at 10:09 AM

Obama doesn’t want to be President. He did want it, but now that he’s got it, he’s accomplished his goal – he’ll always be the first Black President of the USA. Now he believes the Office is beneath him. This will be proven again and again as he barrels thru his agenda with no concerns about re-election.

tgillian on December 11, 2010 at 11:26 AM

A little police interview “tells” here. Note the hand over mouth position of Clinton. We studied him in the nineties to hone our own skills in telling if a person is lying or not. Clinton’s weakness is his body. That photo shows he really doesn’t care about what the people talking to him are saying. Frankly, he doesn’t care about them anyway, but this is his tell. He doesn’t do it all the time, only when he feigns care or is about to lie his butt off.

Is he better? He was less an ideologue than the current one. That is good. Bill is the used car salesman you would party with, but hide your sister from.

archer52 on December 11, 2010 at 2:03 PM

By what obama allowed Clinton to do, and leaving Bill there for another 30 minutes to answer questions actually not only hurts obama, but also Hillary if she decided to challenge obama, or ever run. It is though the dems, when they can’t figure something out, they trot out Bill to help them. I think the American people are tired of this, and by doing this helps the really hurts the dems

Which one of those two thought that a press conference was a good idea?

BetseyRoss on December 11, 2010 at 3:57 PM

Didn’t hear the presser. How much trash did the Big He talk? What I recall about Bubba is that he could talk endlessly, a seeming font of facts and figures, but in reality, most of what he said was just crap that nobody ever called him on.

Sometimes I think Obama is headed for a crackup. This is one of those times.

“I don’t want to make her mad, please go,” Clinton told Obama.

I’ve been wanting the same thing since the ’08 elections. We should all tell Obama the same thing in 2012. Sooner is OK, too.
