Obama on liberal tax cuts critics: Some of these people are “confused”

posted at 9:39 pm on December 8, 2010 by Allahpundit

Good lord. Is The One starting to direct some of the same condescending nonsense he aimed at voters during the campaign back at … his own base? This sounds a bit like his now infamous stump speech about people not thinking clearly in preferring the GOP.

“I know that there’s some folks who are angry about it,” he said. “They are confused about the extensions on the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, and there are policy and political objections. Some people are saying, ‘Well, did we fight hard enough for our position? Did we position ourselves properly on this?’”

The president said the bottom line is the votes weren’t there.

“We put up the best and smartest fight that we could under the circumstances. That means without 60 votes in the Senate,” the president said, “not a single Republican would support our position in the Senate, and as a consequence we could not get the 60 vote we needed to overcome their filibuster.”

Well, according to lefties, the “best and smartest fight” would have been to let the cuts expire and then dare the new Republican House to hold out for across-the-board cuts while middle-class voters howled about their rates going up. In fact, watch the clip below and you’ll see that Obama’s counting on a version of that strategy to boost him in 2012. We are indeed going to have this debate again, and I can’t wait to hear him explain how he’s going to get a middle-class-only cut through a still-Republican House and an even more Republican Senate come 2013. Assuming he’s still in the White House at the time, that is.

Exit question via Jay Cost: Was it liberals’ own insane demonization of American conservatives that made Obama’s tax cut “betrayal” possible in the first place? Quote: “Liberals are understandably grinding their teeth right now over Obama’s tax cut deal. They are angry that he is not as liberal as they thought he was, or at least that he is not as willing to fight for his liberal beliefs as they would like. But when push comes to shove, they will be there full tilt for the president because they will detest whomever the Republicans nominate. One cannot win the presidential nomination in the conservative-dominated Republican Party without thoroughly antagonizing American liberals. Look, for instance, at how the liberals came to hate John McCain, who was much more conciliatory than whomever the Grand Old Party will nominate in 2012. All of the well-known Republican candidates (Huckabee, Romney, Palin) already bother the liberals, and if a currently lesser-known candidate wins the nomination, the left will come to despise him or her with all the intensity they can muster.” Yep. No matter how far towards the center he goes, Obama can count on total enthusiastic support from the left once the next Republican Satan rises.

Obama will see his approval numbers drop into the low 30′s before next spring. I can only hope that somehow the economy heads into recovery despite this moron. People are paying attention the likes of which they did towards the middle of the carter era. Obama will be a one term president, and he will take over the title of worst president ever. Knowing this takes the edge off the pain, but barely.

When looking at the American public, condescension is warranted. We are a mass of petulant children, unable to fully grasp anything yet adamant that our every demand be met. I think this moron is finally catching on to the fact that he is being mocked and laughed at around the world, by world leaders, by world news outlets, by regular folks. I honestly don’t think Obama cares one bit what Americans think of him, and never will. But I do believe he wanted desperately to be loved and cherished in the eyes of the world outside US soil. He’s realizing that he has been played by world leaders big time. His fantasy is getting shattered before his eyes. This man wanted the world to love him and his vehicle was to trash America thinking that would make him a God like creature around the globe.

Truth is, the free world needs a strong and healthy United States of America. Obama by trashing America has put the very people he wants to idolize him in great danger.

Public officials who would make excellent candidates should they run on this platform include Sens. Russ Feingold, Bernie Sanders, Barbara Mikulski or Al Franken; Reps. Joe Sestak, Maxine Waters, Raul Grijalva, Alan Grayson, Barbara Lee, Dennis Kucinich, Lois Capps, Jim Moran and Lynn Woolsey. Others include Jim McGovern, Marcy Kaptur, Jim McDermott or John Conyers. It appears that, by presenting this compromise, Obama is trying to expand his voter base beyond the 35 year old Jack Black lookalikes posting liberal Bogs from their Mom’s basement.

His problem is, that after two years of cramming his own socialist ideology down Americans’ throats, for him to unveil this tax cut compromise at the ninth hour, appears to be an act of desperation. Conservatives and Independents don’t trust him. And the people who have built him up as their messiah, the Nutroot base and his own political party, are grief-stricken and disillusioned to the point of near-riotous anger.

Sho’ ’nuff hate it for them. Pass the popcorn.

Brilliant and painfully true summary.

People asked Mr.Yes-We-Can – the most incapable candidate in US history – undo what Bush had done and more. They did everything short of building a freaking ALTAR to the guy.

And when he couldn’t meet their childish demands in half of one term…they turned on him like a pack of piranhas.

I wouldn’t want to be a Senator or Representative, much less the POTUS, not at any price. I’d rather supervise for a room full of autistic three year olds; their logic would make more sense and they wouldn’t have access to firearms.

They are angry that he is not as liberal as they thought he was, or at least that he is not as willing to fight for his liberal beliefs as they would like.

didn’t he just claim “blue dog” status recently?

This is all Kabuki theatrics aimed at making him look like a centrist for re-election purposes.

Yeah well, we’re trying our hardest to convert the ones you’re talking about into Conservative Republicans.

I get the impression your problem with her is that she’s just too Conservative.

Gad, he looks like hell. He is clearly miserable – having a real job is, like, hard. It was s’posed to be a coronation, followed by the subjects being mesmerized for the next 4 years by his awesomeness. And Paul Krugman told him that the feds could borrow as much money as they wanted forever.

It blows me away that after all the infantile behavior and incompetence of this President, the left with still blindly hate his opponent in 2012, and rabidly support him, no matter who it is.

Thats the difference between the right and left. We support principles over any man or woman, which allows us to walk away from candidates who betray them. Liberals cant back up their actions with principles because their policies have been proven a failure by history. They are forced to put their beliefs in a person, one who is able to suspend the laws of economics with his greatness, and bend the will of nature. A savior….and when it doesnt work out, they move on to the next person, and try again.

They have to believe some people are superior to others znd able to change the world, or they would have to admit all liberal ideas unbelievably stupid.

Its a pagan religion.

Obama: “Remember my B.S. analogy of the Republicans driving the economy into a ditch and taking the keys away from? Well……I never learned how to drive growing up in Kenya, so I’ve decided to give the keys back to them”

BTW, my only demand is for most of our current government to be dismantled and go back to the enumerated powers thought process.

Amen to that…
