Obamateurism of the Day
posted at 8:05 am on December 3, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
It isn’t often that one man can bring the Israelis and Palestinians together, but Barack Obama has managed the near-impossible, according to Ben Smith at Politico. Obama hasn’t brought them any closer to peace — just the opposite, in fact. But at least they’re both blaming the same guy:
Vowing to change a region that has resisted the best efforts of presidents and prime ministers past, Barack Obama dove head first into the Middle East peace process on his second day in office.
He was supposed to be different. His personal identity, his momentum, his charisma and his promise of a fresh start would fundamentally alter America’s relations with the Muslim world and settle one of its bitterest grievances.
Two years later, he has managed to forge surprising unanimity on at least one topic: Barack Obama. A visit here finds both Israelis and Palestinians blame him for the current stalemate — just as they blame one another.
Instead of becoming a heady triumph of his diplomatic skill and special insight, Obama’s peace process is viewed almost universally in Israel as a mistake-riddled fantasy. …
Even those who still believe in the process that Obama has championed view his conduct as a deeply unfunny comedy of errors.
“He’s like rain,” said a top Israeli official involved in diplomacy with the U.S., speaking of Obama’s role in negotiations. “You can do all kinds of things to cope with it.”
A lot of Americans are learning the same thing, especially Tea Party activists, who threw Obama’s party out of power in the House. In fact, many of them have a similar opinion of Obama as do the Israelis:
“Israelis really hate Obama’s guts,” said Shmuel Rosner, a columnist for two leading Israeli newspapers. “We used to trust Americans to act like Americans, and this guy is like a European leader.”
We feel your pain, dude.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

did Ed invoke Milli Vanilli, the famously black “singing” duo, that was found out to be a lip-synching fraud that duped millions and scored #1 pop hits in the ’80′s???
even they were more than 0ne hit W0nders….
but an appropriate comparison nonetheless.

Like build an ark. ‘Cause we got this rain for much more then 40 consecutive days.

The rest of the world is finally realizing that like his skittles and unicorns, this fraud is just the manifestation of decades of socialist fantasy.
The timing is priceless as the EU comes crumbling down around their ears.

I’m skeptical. Sure, they don’t like his policies towards them … but do they really hate the man? All of them?

I just want Obama in office when Europe sinks. They loved him. Let them have him when they need him the most.

To be fair isn’t Senator John F Kerry – 2006 Democrat Presidential ticket with John Edwards. Isn’t John F Kerry the point man?
We are always getting news on Kerry’s personal foibles but not so much what he is doing in his official capacity- He’s been on the ground in this region. I guess he is willing to let the President take all the flack for his performance.

9.8%
cmsinaz on December 3, 2010 at 8:36 AM
Anyone seen the headline at Drudge yet(great photo BTW)? Is the increase to 9.8% unemployment a good sign that people are reentering the work force or a bad sign that even more folks are losing their jobs? Honestly with all the “unexpected” BS from the AP over the last 2 years, it’s hard to know anymore.
Doughboy on December 3, 2010 at 8:37 AM
To be fair to Americans (in general), we seem to be the only ones that have a lot less patience and more disdain for him – at least we have higher numbers of opposition.
When I talk to non-Americans about Obama, they’re either stuck back in 2008 (they literally haven’t followed his “accomplishments” the last few years) or they tell me to give him more time…
Something tells me that come re-election the world will yet again try to tell America how we need to re-elect Obama.

Forget Palestinians & Israelis, just getting all Jews to agree on anything is a miracle. Light-worker, or dark-worker?
rbj on December 3, 2010 at 8:40 AM
That’s the thing. How many American Jews “hate” Obama? What percentage? What percentage of them think the majority of his policies are harmful?

The Obama,Samantha Power, and Susan Rice gang of “Smart Power” that can’t shoot straight.
Get “slow Joe” Biden on the case….he is the smartest democrat in the room and did a smashing job with “recovery summer”.
Baxter Greene on December 3, 2010 at 8:43 AM
Is the assumption, then, that Obama has special insight and is diplomatically skilled? I’ve seen nothing that suggests either. Quite to the contrary.
SukieTawdry on December 3, 2010 at 8:46 AM
More likely they don’t particularly care about Obama personally, but they (the Israelis) hate everything he stands for. That’s pretty much my position.

OmahaConservative on December 3, 2010 at 8:56 AM
Everything? I’m thinking the only thing that could get a majority of Israelis to hate an Obama policy would be his horrible stance on Israel’s right to protect herself.
We’ll see, though. Maybe they’ll also become outraged by his Big Gov’t policies, too.
MeatHeadinCA on December 3, 2010 at 8:57 AM
That didn’t even catch the AP by surprise./

Don’t worry. We had a Prime Minister in Australia who became so unpopular even to his own party that he was replaced as Prime Minister. Anyone remember PM Kevin Rudd?
Australians like Americans are getting rid of the lefties. I predict that there will be no Labor governments on the state level with the exception perhaps of South Australia in three years. And “Red Julia” will probably be gone as well.

The “they have me”, articulate, clean, teleprompter reading, Nobel prize winning Obowma not accomplishing peace in the Middle East?
Whodda thought?
dthorny on December 3, 2010 at 9:41 AM
Barry was supposed to be different because his personal identity was that he was not like other Americans; he was “exotic” compared to most Americans. He had a Kenyan father from a Muslim family (except when they’re claiming to be Christians, that is), and spent some of his childhood in the mostly Muslim nation of Indonesia. Barry’s campaign stressed that he was better than a mere American; he was Mr. Citizen of the World.
The world wanted Barry because he wasn’t American. The world got what it wanted.
Be careful what you ask for.

It takes a special kind of conceit to think that you can go into a situation like the Israeli/Pali conflict and solve it through the power of your own personality and special ability. This problem has been confounding people for generations. It is not going to go away just because you have nicely creased trousers.
Add to that this administration’s inability to admit that it ever makes a mistake, and you have a recipe for disaster on a completely new scale. Slow Joe goes to Jeruselem and sees a couple of buildings under construction, does not understand what it is all about, and suddenly it is the centerpiece of American policy that Israel can not be permitted to build on their own land. Wouldn’t it be better to have a flunky follow Slow Joe around and explain what the VEEP really meant to say?

Who do the Israeli’s love? Just ask them and those that know her views know that she loves them.

Helpful reminder for next time: don’t be so willing to get on a boxcar; in fact, run away, run away very fast if anyone asks you to jump in, especially when they’re a smiling politician courting your vote.
Lourdes on December 3, 2010 at 10:24 AM
But, in all due respect (to Israel and everyone else who supported Obama and made this current Administration Fiasco possible), EVERYTHING A KEEN EYE NEEDED TO KNOW ABOUT OBAMA WAS THERE TO BE KNOWN FOR ANYONE WHO CARED TO OBSERVE IT, PRIOR TO SUPPORTING/VOTING FOR HIM.
The ISSUE was that so many people literally fell into some trance in 2007 and 2008. It was truly some sort of mass hypnosis or celebrity-drunkenness or delusion that beset so many people about Obama.
The rest of us wrote and wrote and shared links and shared more links about who he more than likely was and what his troubles were and, unfortunately, all that was not adequate enough to bring the rest of you to sobriety.
Lourdes on December 3, 2010 at 10:28 AM
Maybe that’s why he gave a campaign speech in Berlin.
Steve Z on December 3, 2010 at 10:37 AM
Remember, McCain, (sad choice, I know) was ahead in the polls by 5% until the economy tanked in September 2008 when someone or somebody, dumped billions of dollars. The media pounced, once again, on their chance to further condemn the economy under Bush ruining the party in powers chances. The liberal media was downplaying the market for years, see “eight years of Bush economic policies”, even though the stock market was at an all time high in 2007 and unemployment was below 5%. I’ll take those “Bush failed economic policies” over Obowmas any day.
Obowma won by 4%, hardly a mandate over a poor republican choice. We can blame American voter apathy, combined with a complicent liberal media and a sour economy resulted in this turd winning.
dthorny on December 3, 2010 at 10:45 AM
Telling President Jackass that he is like a European leader is a compliment to him. His objective is to turn America into a European people’s republik.

Tim_CA on December 3, 2010 at 11:49 AM
And how many of the Jewish faith in this country, still stand by Obama on these issues?
It’s appalling. Obama went in, thinking he could bully, and punch Israel into submitting to his whims. When that didn’t happen, they stood even stronger, to preserve themselves, and their nation. Who could blame them. And now….well….welcome to Obama’s world. It’s looking more, and more like Pee Wee’s play house, isn’t it?
