Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on November 30, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

How desperate did Barack Obama get to close the detention center at Guantanamo Bay? Desperate enough to start acting like Monty Hall. However, even the legendary host of Let’s Make a Deal knew better than to offer himself as a prize:

Slovenia was told to take a prisoner if it wanted to meet with President Obama, while the island nation of Kiribati was offered incentives worth millions of dollars to take in Chinese Muslim detainees, cables from diplomats recounted.

Slovenia, it should be noted, is an American ally — a stable democracy in the Balkans with historic ties to the West, a member of the Eurozone, the WTO, and NATO.  Why would the US insist that only an agreement to host a terrorist would allow the Slovenian government to meet with Obama? Shouldn’t Obama already be meeting with Slovenia’s leadership?

Remember when Obama promised “smart power” and to repair our relationships with our allies?  How’s that working out?

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Illustrations by Chris Muir of Day by Day. Be sure to read the adventures of Sam, Zed, Damon, and Jan every day!

Well, back in the Carter Administration, I believe it was the German Chancellor who went on record refering to Carter as being a “dumb-bell”.

I am quite sure that about this time, Slovenia has something floating around along those lines when making reference to Obama.

A ‘Teflon’ Chancellor and ‘Wildcard’ Foreign Minister
How America Views the Germans

The State Department dispatches that have now been released show just how critically the US views Germany. They see Chancellor Merkel as “risk averse” and Foreign Minister Westerwelle as a “wild card.” The US Embassy in Berlin has informants at all levels of German government. Obama should just sell Raffle tickets.
“This one is very clean…just waterboarded last week”

This is leaning towards something that was outlawed in this country some 140 years ago.

Reminds me of a scene from Kelly’s Heroes:

Crapgame: Try making a deal.
Big Joe: What kind of a deal?
Crapgame: A deal deal! Maybe the guy’s a Republican. Business is business, right?

That’s exactly what it is, and I imagine wikileaks will show that it permeates Øbama‘s foreign affairs.

It may end up cooking Shrillary’s goose too.

In Barry Soetoro’s case, the answer is an emphatic no.

What’s the surprise? That the community organizer and his co-conspiritors(many yet to be named)have Chicago-fied the world is no surprise.

When you elevate a street-smart community organizer to the world’s highest position, you’ll get street-smart diplomacy.

Philosphy: what works in the hood is good enough for the world. We’ve bought the hood’s music, sexual ethics, and Alinski-ized any-means-to-an-end thinking, complete with the essential intimidation and pressure tactics as our culture norm and now we substitute cheap power plays on the international level and call it diplomacy.

Soon the UN will be dumping those sexy blue helmets for purple shirts with rainbow roads on them.

OT: Scarborough is flexing his punditry muscles in Politico or Daily Beast today by ripping Palin a new one.

I don’t count myself among the Palinistas, but would Palin ever be a fraction as stupid as this “intellectual” AA candidate currently occupying the White House? I doubt it.

I will say that it was hilarious to listen to Buchanan on Morning Joe declare that Obama has lost middle-class independents “culturally,” that they gave him a chance in 2008 but have concluded that “he’s not one of us.” The looks on the faces of Barnacle, Mika, Geist, and Heilman were priceless.

Slovenia was told to take a prisoner if it wanted to meet with President Obama,

Dear Liar has it all backwards. The State Department should have said: “Take a prisoner or else you’ll have to have a meeting with The Whine.”

Slovenia: “Please, anything but that. We’ll take ten prisoners instead.”

More “smart power” here. Obama is either the most incompetent human being ever to occupy the Oval Office, or he is purposefully weakening the United States.

Barry and Hillary are the two most worthless buffoons ever to attain power in this country.

They are so similar.

Inexperienced, unqualified, ignorant and arrogant egomaniacs.

Both shamelessly endorsed by our equally worthless media.

Sarah is a couple of steps ahead of these losers every day. Sarah is literally wiping the floor with lefties and it’s becoming clear to even the sickest of haters that the media has lost with it’s attempts to destroy Sarah and anything Palin. Bristol and the dancing gig was clearly won by Bristol. The Palin Alaska series was a success and a big time endorsement of Alaska and it’s beauty. Sarah can destroy Obama and Hillary with one FB post a day.
