Ratings for Palin’s show down 40% since debut
posted at 5:20 pm on November 23, 2010 by Allahpundit
Mediaite, angling for maximum drama!, calls it a “collapse.” I’m surprised, not that there was a drop-off from the smash debut — curiosity-seekers were to be expected for episode one — but that the audience didn’t settle at a higher number for Sunday’s show. Surely there are more than three million devoted Sarahcuda supporters out there eager for a weekly fix. What on earth were they watching instead?
Ah, right: Sunday Night Football and the AMAs. Even cultural icons must know their place.
Sarah Palin’s Alaska fell 40% on Sunday night to 3 million viewers.
Not many were in the key adult demo either. Only 885,000 viewers were ages 18-49, dropping 44% from last week.
In fact, the median age of the show is 57 — that’s 15 years older than TLC’s average.
Her son will appear on the next episode, so maybe that’ll bring the curiosity-seekers back. Failing that, there’s a new “scandal” to quicken the pulse of embittered lefties: Some animal rights group is angry about a scene from Sunday’s show in which the Palins ended up clubbing halibut or something on the deck of a ship. Click the image below to watch a clip; it features the most famous Palin in the world, plus Sarah. Exit question one: Could the drop in ratings be due to … overexposure? Between this, DWTS, and promotions for the book tour, there’s a whole lotta Palin going on right now. Exit question two: This story can’t possibly be true, can it? Because if it is, they should let Sarah take over DWTS and run it from now on. Even more ingenious than my idea about a Gadsden flag dress.

Dear Sarah,
Many of us are quite happy with the witch fading away into blissful obscurity.
In other words, don’t bring her back.
Vyce on November 23, 2010 at 6:10 PM
Some of us are getting ready for the massive hordes to descend upon us like locust. We were watching football, (the first half), and the rest of the time cleaning and cooking for Thanksgiving. We DVRd the show.
She probably to date has received more viewers than MSNBC did total during mid-term election night! Or during a regular nights viewing.
LOL-she probably has received more viewing than Katie C over at CBS in a weeks time!

I DVR’d it too. Wonder how many people did that.

The pilot ratings are indicators of viewer interest in Palin herself. Subsequent ratings will be more dependent upon viewer interest in Alaska.

How exactly do they get these numbers. A polling sample extrapolated? Electronic gizmowizardry? If I DVR a show does that magically get counted has a “view”? Seriously, how does this stuff work?
pugwriter on November 23, 2010 at 6:16 PM
Shame. You can buy shrimp off the boats on the Texas coast, but it’s about like going from Wasilla to Homer to get there, from here. (Central Texas)
I was just really caught up in how BEAUTIFUL the Alaska coast is, and how good that halibut looked. I’m not even a big fish eater. But wanted some of that!
Here catfish is what you eat if you want a meal.
Something tells me the show is going to make a LOT of people want to come and see the state.
Since Sarah has burst on the scene there are a ton of shows about Alaska, some nature and some like Ice Road Truckers, but so far Sarah’s show is the most beautifully filmed.
They do such a good job.
It’s a majestic state.
gary4205 on November 23, 2010 at 6:17 PM
Why’s that?
How could she be better at “what she’s doing now” when you haven’t seen her be President or run for the Oval Office?
Just about everything Sarah does is a success.

from Wasilla to Homer is quite a long drive. I don’t drive it fast because the mountain passes are hazardous .. especially since it is freezing rain up there at the moment. It usually takes me 5 hours on a good day with moderate traffic.
upinak on November 23, 2010 at 6:20 PM
There’s a HUGE discussion about this going on in the industry. Some count DVRing, some don’t.
I would think you SHOULD, because anyone taping it is going to watch it.
Of course, it’s like any polling, there’s a number of folks who have a box that records what they watch, and it extrapolates from there.
Not sure how accurate it even is.

I’d agree that some audience will drop off after the first one, especially from the ones most afflicted with PDS. Add to that, the football and stuff Allah mentioned, also Dexter comes on in (or near, at least) that timeslot. How does it actually work for the ratings if one DVRs the rerun and watches it later?

It looks like the road to Homer is two lane in a lot of places. I can only imagine what it’s like in crappy weather.
Pretty drive though, at least when they were filming!
You can get to Houston on big highways or one of two interstates. It’s no biggie, except the time.

My husband and I have been watching Brit Hume’s series on the rise of conservatism instead.
annoyinglittletwerp on November 23, 2010 at 6:30 PM
While I do like and admire Palin I think she has overexposed herself. I get sick of seeing her in the headlines, seeing her on Fox, hearing people comment about her political ambitions. I think she’s become somewhat of a joke. I hope she doesn’t run for president because I think we need someone who, in this day and age, has some serious understanding of foreign policies and maybe some serious military experience as well. I applaud her accomplishments and wish her well, but I don’t wish her to be our president and I don’t think it can happen anyway.
I do wish her daughter well because her mother shouldn’t have any effect whatsoever on what she is doing right now…she’s old enough to have a life of her own.

The Homer Spit is a area of sand, dirt and rock that accumulated a lot and people began to build on it. It is where a lot of people saw it first, with the Eagle Lady feeding the eagles on her land on the spit.
People started to expand on it for boats, to make a harbor and it has a small fish processing plant for halibut and silver salmon. You can camp on the spit (I have many times) it is chilly and if you don’t know it is high tide, you have your tent or vehicle go in the water. It is a nice area to go fishing.
upinak on November 23, 2010 at 6:33 PM

I didn’t hear Hannity today, but she said last night that Todd was on board, and her kids, especially Britol have all but begged her to. Track might be the only one to say no.

Well, my DVR is set to record all episodes. However the numbers are gather, My family is part of the sum. Which brings up an important point–my wife and two boys curl up on the couch with me and we enjoy the show together. There aren’t too many shows that allow us that luxury. With most programs, either the kids shouldn’t be watching (maybe wifey and I shouldn’t either, come to think of it) or somebody gets bored and scoots off.
We all sit happily through SPAK.

Not talking about her being president. I’m talking about her being a politician. I don’t think that’s her forte. She doesn’t suck at it, but that’s a testament to who she is, not to her greatest strengths.

I suspect people figured out they can see it in multiple time slots during the week which kind of drains the Sunday night viewers.
Also not sure but I think DVR stats only count for the show if viewed in the first 24 hours. Not sure how they figure that out but I surely read it. Probably Nielsen diaries?
3 Million is a good audience number for cable. She beats BOR! Heh. Also CNN and MSNBC combined.
As for COD. I think it is a good thing to have conservative women in the mainstream. Especially those who have a sense of humor. We have to make an attempt to win the culture war and my guess is COD would happily sign on, unless she is considering running again. Then it would not be a good idea. The exposure would hopefully combat the dehumanization that went on during the campaign.

I heard the Hannity interview today as well. Frankly, I think she’s gotten a bit spooked at the major establishment push-back on the talk of her running. I would bet that it stung a bit to hear that the Bushes don’t care for her and there has been a non-stop parade of hit pieces on the topic – from republican bloggers, pundits, journalists, etc.
Personally, I think that Palin needs to stick with her principles. She has made it clear that if someone steps up to run and their platform has the elements that are important to her then she will not need to run and will instead be their biggest supporter. However, if we continue to have establishment squishes offered to us then she will run to give the American people a choice.

The halibut are “bled” to drain the blood from the meat so that it is white. The fish is then gutted and placed in the hold. I suspect it is pretty dead by the time it’s fileted.

halibut is white either if bled or not. the only difference is that when you first filet it, it has the veins that people freak out when they see it.

I have to run, but listened to the first half. She’s being honest. You know any other politician that would say what she is saying, IN PUBLIC and on the record?
I think she knows in her heart she can do the job. I also know she knows she take Barry out. I also know she’s more worried about saving the country than winning some sort of race and having some sort of title, even if it’s Madam President.
This is exactly the sort who NEEDS to be President.
You know who else had to be all but begged into being President? George Washington.
This was a commanding general who obviously enjoyed the command and was successful. He was a reluctant President though.
I know everyone has their own ideas, but when you compare a thoughtful and considered Sarah Palin, and her reluctance, up against the naked lust for the Presidency you see out of Mitt Romney, it’s a no brainer who I’d rather see in the office.
The best leaders are the ones who don’t think they need any kind of title.
I’m sure she’s going back and forth. This is a big deal, and again, she cares more about the country than her own career path. Always has.
I’ll tell ya, the Draft Sarah 2012 bunch has a huge letter writing campaign going and a petition asking her to run. That is the sort of thing she needs to see.
Plus, think about this for a minute. Saying what she is saying might just make her enemies think they have won, and they’ll move on to the next deal while she gets her ducks in a row.
She is that smart, ya know.

well it’s one time I hope I am wrong. for those that think her supporters never critize Gov Palin listen up. I think she messed up with this interview. It was not the tone her supporters needed to hear at this time. The GOP establishment is on a major attack and her supporters do not need talk of making peace it will demoralize her supporters and cause the establishment to redouble their efforts because they will not take her warning and instead will smell blood. And it could cause a 3rd part split which is what IMO she was warning them about by attacking her base of support in the way they have. It was not well played.

You can’t know what she’d be like as prez, though. The logic isn’t sound. She could be more effective at rousing people from their sleep to focus on their government and be more civically aware as prez than as gadfly. I don’t know. I didn’t think she’d draw this much attention, either.

I don’t hunt, but only because of my eyesight. I couldn’t hit water if I fell out of a boat! But I know where food comes from!
I think it was whining about the wolves too. Many of this bunch think Sarah hung out the window of a chopper and machine-gunned down wolves herself!!!!!!!!!11!!!!!!!!!
You can do a better job than most in describing how important predator control is. Also almost every western state has similar policies.
I understand wolves attack people up there. Of course, what the hell up there doesn’t! I have a buddy who talks about taking a baseball bat to moose to get them to back down!

I hate to disagree..but I think you are way overanalyzing this..Hannity is known for these kind of interviews..IMHO..:)

I love ya like a brother (or sister), but go back and listen to her last declaration in the interview.
I think her words regarding how she might be a disrupting force was really a message to the machine to follow Reagan’s 11th Commandment.

Halibut moron. Keep up, even a libtard like yourself can do that, right?

Personally I thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband and I went to Alaska in 2002.. Best trip we ever took. I hope to get there again someday. I watch anything Alaska related. I actually thought it was better than the first. The music awards were on though too.

annoyingtwerp isn’t a troll guys. But I don’t think they have ever hunted or fished. It doesn’t understand.
upinak on November 23, 2010 at 7:12 PM
Now I’m an it?
I have fished a few times-thankfully I didn’t catch anything-and I DO understand.
Yes-overpopulation can be a problem-and it should be dealt with by rangers or whatever as part of their job-not by some bozo who wants to mount Bambi’s head on their wall.
Killing. Shouldn’t. Be. Fun.

My personal opinion is that Hannity pushes her too much in these on-air phone interviews to try and get a scoop.
This is what happened with Christine O’Donnell: Hannity virtually heckled her into endorsing Christine on the air.
I think Sarah learned her lesson.
Jenfidel on November 23, 2010 at 7:26 PM
I believe she will run, based on what I know of her. But the speculation is way, WAY too hot right now. She needs to tamp it down a little. The Hannity interview was the equivalent of Hillary Clinton saying “I am very happy where I am”. Relax, you’re getting … well, wee-wee’d up.
alwaysfiredup on November 23, 2010 at 7:26 PM
I think Sarah is just messing with peoples heads. Either that or she screwed up that interview.
Crux Australis on November 23, 2010 at 7:28 PM
If you live in AK, why not?
They have a dearth of grocery stores and a plentiful supply of game.
These people are hunting to live, not doing it for “sport.”
They eat what they hunt–it’s not killing just for the “fun of it.”
BTW, some of what’s hunted serves the purpose of “thinning the herd,” of predators like wolves, coyotes and bears.
We have large cities like Washington, D.C. that have had coyote and wolf attacks in urban areas because officials have caved to bleeding hearts like you and enacted not only anti-hunting laws, but gun control laws, too.

Yeah i got that implied threat to the establishment. Of doing more harm than good and to backoff. But…..I don’t know I’m confused here.
Jenfidel on November 23, 2010 at 7:26 PM
that is the thing. hannity said nothing. It was all Palin and she asked him not to interrupt her point. I’m sorry guys she totally confused me on this interview and the tome I took form it was one I did not want to have….
