Gov Rendell: Voters Don’t Always Vote On Logical Reasons

posted at 4:40 pm on November 23, 2010 by The Right Scoop

via CNS News. Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell says that when people are angry, they don’t always vote logically and that’s why democrats lost so many races in PA. That’s interesting to me, because I wonder if he would ascribe the same sentiment to the republican losses of ’06 and ’08. I kinda doubt it, because then I’m sure it was very logical to vote democrat. But voting republican now, not so much:

Voting Democrat makes sense if you are taking money, or want to take money, from the public trough.

If you are a net taxpayer, voting for a Democrat would be like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.

Voters Don’t Always Vote On Logical Reasons

I agree. Voting for a certified waaaaay-left liberal, with no executive experience, & many radical associations, to be president in ’08 was far from logical.

itsnotaboutme on November 23, 2010 at 4:45 PM

And Gov Rendell doesn’t always say logical things…

OmahaConservative on November 23, 2010 at 4:45 PM

What a tool. Nothing spells re-election like insulting the unwashed masses who vote. Idiot!

milwife88 on November 23, 2010 at 4:45 PM

Same old dance.

People voting demorat = The wise will of the people making an intelligent choice to move the nation forward into a bright future.

People voting Republican = Angry hayseed racist morons who cheated by hacking the voting machines and intimidating minorities away from the polling places all in an effort to live as slave-owning southerners did in 1857.

The Voters Just Said No 2 All of the Crap that The Libs have to offer.

Ed doesn’t get it because the only real people he talks to are his chef and his chauffer.

After them he talks to people who talks to people who real have to work to put food on the table.

Ignorance is Bliss

SayNo2-O on November 23, 2010 at 4:47 PM

Sorry Ed, losing your house, job, or 401K are not reasons to be angry. Anger arises from the atmosphere and environment created by the liberal progressive agenda that leads to the loss of jobs, homes and 401k’s.

fourdeucer on November 23, 2010 at 4:47 PM

When people vote for the Oppressive Democrats on the far-left it’s perfectly reasonable and logical and for the Children (cue uplifting music)

When people vote Republican it’s because they are angry, stupid illogical or having a temper tantrum.

That’s all you need to know about what the Dems think about the subject.

Chip on November 23, 2010 at 4:49 PM

How do you “get” something when you never understood it to begin with?

upinak on November 23, 2010 at 4:50 PM

LOL. This is how Democrats win elections!

littleguy on November 23, 2010 at 4:51 PM

Gee, calling voters stupid worked so well for them in the 2010 cycle, looks like they’re going to double down on it in 2012. I say go for it. Go all in. Become the party of “Voters are Stupid.” I think it’s a winner.

Voters Don’t Always Vote On Logical Reasons

Sometimes they vote for emotionally laden words like “hope” and “change” without understanding the “change” the candidate “hopes” to implement.

What an illogical tool !

Sandybourne on November 23, 2010 at 4:52 PM

A little OT, but today Rush postulated an interesting theory that the whole TSA thing is just retribution from the Dems for the people rejecting their oppressive-Socialist agenda.

The timing sort of bolster that theory in part, don’t ya think?

Chip on November 23, 2010 at 4:53 PM

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell says that when people are angry, they don’t always vote logically and that’s why democrats lost so many races in PA.

You can prevent that by mandating voters take 15mg of Valium one hour before voting.

darwin on November 23, 2010 at 4:53 PM

Ed is a strange combination of uber smug and hyper-ignorant.

When the repub’s were thrashed in 2006 and 2008, the run of the mill republican said “we deserved it” ……. yet the libtards blame everyone and everything other that themselves for their recent thrashing.

It’s odd how libtards can’t handle rejection. It is a beta-male thing? Low testosterone maybe? Why are libtards so damn spineless?

So, according Rendell … voters in 2008 were remarkably calm and happy, even though the bottom had just dropped out of the housing market, and unemployment was necessarily skyrocketing.

CJ on November 23, 2010 at 4:52 PM

Those words are also extremely vague – sort of like what the Left likes to labels itself these days as “progressive” – take a look at the definition and you’ll realize that it could mean almost anything.
In practice these days it really means something along the lines of Fascism-Socialism, but they don’t have the intestinal fortitude to admit that.

Which is why a lot of people are preferring to use the term “oppressive” instead.

WTF. A got a fuc*ing commercial…

Jaibones on November 23, 2010 at 5:09 PM

For Democrats, voters are logical when they vote for Democrats and illogical when they don’t. It’s that simple. At least a number of Republicans understood that the setbacks in 2006 and 2008 were a rebuff of their policies and actions whether it was the war policy, spending decisions, or the ethics transgressions.

This illustrates that Democrats are not anchored to substantive principals, but rather, to a collection of interest groups.

Who would have thought, that ol Ed would be an elitist.

Oh, I see a lot of really smart people at the Democratic National Conventions every four years. Just watch the speeches especially during the day. You would really be impressed. (SA)

Hummer53 on November 23, 2010 at 5:18 PM

Wow…what an amazing quote.

1. We like the things we Democrats are doing,
2. The things we are doing are causing voters to be angry and have lost their jobs and 401(k)s,
3. Angry voters decided to throw everyone out of office,
4. And Democrats held most of the seats, so they got thrown out.

Huh. The stock market was at 9,700 in July and by the election hit 11,450 or so, about an 18% increase in five months. Republicans won all the seats Democrats lost.

I wonder wtf Ed is talking about?

Jaibones on November 23, 2010 at 5:18 PM

Rendell is often characterized as one of the “reasonable” Democrats. He really is just another lib like the rest of them.

echosyst on November 23, 2010 at 5:18 PM

The Dems are blind and deaf. They don’t see the failure of liberal policies which surround them in every city and state they run. They don’t hear the complaints from their constituents when their policies leave people with less money and more problems.

I’ve given up on the idea that the Democrats can represent the best interests of Americans. Let’s hope that the GOP, at least, can get off the gravy train and start doing the hard work necessary to get the government out of our lives.

hawksruleva on November 23, 2010 at 5:19 PM

He’s right………..that’s how he and Obama got elected.

lilium on November 23, 2010 at 5:19 PM

That’s right, Ed, blame the stupid voters. We’ll take the blame. And we are working our collective butts off now to take out the rest of the Dems. We’ll leave a few of you just to remind eveyone what a bunch of clueless liars they elected long ago.

BetseyRoss on November 23, 2010 at 5:25 PM

Whenever the Left talks about voters voting “against their best interests” they mean getting something for free. Welfare, extended unemployment benefits, health care and so on. They don’t understand is that the average person would rather earn and spend their own money instead of settle for whatever the government assigns them. I hope the American people always confound the Left.

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell says that when people are angry, they don’t always vote logically and that’s why democrats lost so many races in PA.

Didn’t the O-bomb say that when people are angry they don’t think clearly and take facts and logic into account?

So the “logical” conclusion is there are 2 geniuses (Obama and Rendell) and 2 million logically-challenged bitter clingers in PA (those who voted for Toomey and Corbett). They need an ejakayshun and need to pay more skool taxes.

A few years ago, some Hot Air commenters said there was an Evil Party (D) and a Stupid Party (R) in this country. Hey, Fast Eddie, you call the voters stupid, they’ll vote for the Stupid Party! Maybe next time around, they’ll bitterly cling to it!

I was in Philly this weekend and caught an opinion column in the local paper. The female writer was distraught that the “Western” politicians (as opposed to the “better” Eastern Politicians from Philly) had taken over Harrisburg. I thought it was pretty revealing that they have really lost a lot of power therre in PA, that’s a good thing. Say goodbye to your district, Johnny Murtha.

If voters voted logically the Democrat Party would fold immediately. The only thing they have to sell is “we’ll give you a few crumbs and waste the rest on our incompetence.” I still find it hysterical that the same government that wants to run a state run system of health care couldn’t run the Congressional cafeteria. Like the cafeteria, just about everything in this nation should be privatized for obvious reasons……
