Barbara Bush Hitting Palin to Help Jeb?

… That’s what Jonathan Alter argued during our panel on MSNBC’s ‘Dylan Ratigan Show’ today.

Personally, I think Barbara Bush’s Palin-bashing (assuming saying she hopes Palin stays in Alaska qualifies as “bashing”) has more to do with her moderate political philosophy than it does with any strategy for helping elect her son.

Having said that, I am starting to hear rumors that Jeb is telling potential prominent supporters to “keep their powder dry,” meaning not to endorse or support any 2012 candidates until they check back with him.

There is no doubt that Jeb Bush is highly qualified, and if his name were “Jeb Smith,” he would be the 2012 front-runner today.

In any event, this is good, fun speculation.

I don’t believe in hating Palin. I admire her, but, like most people, realize she is an inarticulate, ineffective spokesperson for conservatism who does more harm than good.

We can admire Palin while still pointing out the fact that she helps Democrats more than anything and that she would ensure a Democrat landslide if we were ever foolish enough to make her our nominee.

I think she is a patriotic woman who is right on many issues and who is brave to put herself out there to try to make a difference. Does that mean I want to see her as the face of conservatism or as the nominee of our party? Definitely not.

I have always been a supporter of Palin. Look at my user name. I just did not like her endorsement of Newt. I think she fell for the con that is Newt Gingrich. I also think that had she endorsed Santorum or Perry, Romney might not have gotten the nomination. Palin was and is my first choice to be President. I think that only she has the courage to take on the permanent political class in Washington.

Bluegill, thank you for the answer. Your answer shows why you shouldn’t be trying to tear her down. She most likely will not be a presidential nominee due to the media and the heiarchy republicans, but by trying to diminsh her as one of our voices, you do harm to the causes we conservatives can agree on. Neither Newt nor Palin caused Romney’s defeat. He did that himself, along with his Advisors and McCains’ Advisors on board. Don’t leave the “genius” Rove out of it either.

Romney was a hard sell anyway, then hire incompetents to run your campaign. Diss the Conservative base, the Tea Party and Sarah Palin and you are done!!

Romney was not supposed to win by the way. How many Republicans in either the House or Senate supported him in public? Newt did and campaigned for him.

Wrong. There were 23 candidates listed plus write-ins. Palin finished in the top half. Plus,the poll closed right after her speech and most people had already voted.

If the poll was opened instead of closed right after her speech, I bet she would have finished in top 3. Notice that Cruz, who spoke after the poll closed, only received 4% of the vote. Check the youtube hits on each of their speeches and you will see Palin had almost as much as all the others combined.

I could maybe see posting things that might be incorrect and not knowing it but the Palin haters post outright lies. saying she finished last….lie saying her TV show was a failure when it was a huge success…lie. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) responded to President Barack Obama’s latest call for action on gun control Thursday, launching criticism at the White House and promising to do everything in his power to stop the administration’s push for stricter legislation.

“It is saddening to see the president today, once again, try to take advantage of this tragic murder to promote an agenda that will do nothing to stop violent crime, but will undermine the constitutional rights of all law-abiding Americans,” Cruz said in a statement. “I am committed to working with Sens. I’m proud of what Sarah has accomplished and what she’s continuing to try to do for this country. I don’t know anyone who has her courage and drive. She’s never been afraid to step out and say the things that millions of patriotic Americans think but are afraid to voice publicly. She has endured more than most people could ever imagine: from vicious verbal attacks on her children, to real threats on her own life… all because she’s felt compelled to speak out in an effort to get this country back on the right path.

1) I do admire the clownish, unserious quitter in her tight T-shirts and hi heels;

To believe that Palin came in dead last is to believe that Hot Air (and everybody else reporting on those polls) sat on the percentages of THIRTEEN people who did better than Palin, but decided to post Palin’s percentage anyway. So why did Palin finish only one percent above “undecided”? Are you saying that was a good finish? The poll results I saw apparently didn’t include the people who didn’t get 1%. Shouldn’t this be Sarah Palin’s crowd? Face it, there really isn’t a strong desire among conservatives to have Palin run. The only people who want Palin to run are partisan Democrats. Why? Shocking Palin makes it all about herself.

Not so fast. Here are the facts:

There seems to be a bit of drama going on regarding Sarah Palin’s new ‘Sarah PAC’ ad because of the video ad’s mention of Senator Marco Rubio. The ad points out several candidates that Palin supported over the past couple of election cycles, including a mention of Marco Rubio by Senator Ted Cruz of Texas. Cruz stated, “she (Palin) supported Marco Rubio.”

While Sarah Palin never openly endorsed Senator Marco Rubio in his 2010 Senatorial campaign. The endorsement was discussed.

In all due respect to my friends over at Sunshine State News, who stated that the video featured Sen. Ted Cruz saying that Palin endorsed Marco Rubio, is not just a stretch, but an outright untruth. Cruz never used the word endorsement, he said she supported Rubio. Heck, I never endorsed him, but I did support him- still do.

While Sunshine State News is correct in saying that Rubio’s grassroots appeal won him his Senate race, many around the country did not know of Marco Rubio early on, and Palin’s ability to excite the conservative base helped in many national races, including Rubio’s. Palin helped Rubio out every time she mentioned him during one of her stump speeches, or whenever she mentioned him during one of her TV appearances.

In April of 2010, Rubio was gaining considerable name recognition, but it wasn’t until a video that the Shark Tank recorded of Sarah Palin at the 2010 Southern Republican Leadership Convention in New Orleans, did Rubio’s national name ID really blow up.

In the video, Palin stated,” I love Marco Rubio.” She later added,” Marco, keep up the good work-call me, can I help?”

Upon recording the video, and before its release, an exuberant Marco Rubio was floored with the news of Palin’s kind words directed to him, quickly making Rubio realize the kind of “video gold” that was about to be release. The politically savvy Rubio quickly arranged for the messaging to be in place by the end of the weekend, in time for the video’s Monday release.

Just a few days later in The Villages, Florida, Sean Hannity brought his ‘Hannity’ Fox News show on the road, where Rubio was already booked as as one of the shows featured guests. Before the show aired, I spoke to Sean about what he thought about Palin’s video. With a look of disbelief, Hannity couldn’t believe what Palin said. ” She said what?!” As he started walking away, Sean turned back around and asked me again what Palin’s exact words to Rubio. I told Sean, and no sooner that Rubio appeared on stage with him, Hannity ask him about whether or not he was going to call Sarah Palin.

Rubio laughed and said he would be reaching out to her.

I think she is an important voice in the Conservative movement and the Republican Party, and I would love to have her support and her help…we’ll figure out how to get a hold of her.”-Senator Marco Rubio, Human Events

According to one of Rubio’s campaign consultants and confidants, several of the other consultants were against a Palin endorsement, because they felt she was too “Conservative”, and that her endorsement could hurt Rubio in his race against the once Conservative Republican-turned Independent Charlie Crist.

The Palin endorsement of Rubio never came, but later that year at the RNC event in Orlando, Florida, I had the opportunity to speak to Governor Palin. Governor Palin first acknowledge the video we shot in New Orleans, gawking that it got “a lot of views,” and TV time.

I then I asked her about what really happened with Rubio. Palin told me that she supported him and even offered a full and open endorsement, but Rubio’s campaign couldn’t seem to get it to happen, and never got back to her. She reiterated that she was still ready to do it, but was only waiting for the go-ahead from the campaign.

So again, while the endorsement never hit the airways, Palin can take credit for Rubio’s success, just as many other national conservatives can also do, regardless of whether they openly endorsed Rubio or not. Remember,Rubio’s close advisor and friend, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush never endorsed Rubio either.
