Barbara Bush Hitting Palin to Help Jeb?
posted at 7:26 pm on November 22, 2010 by Matt Lewis
… That’s what Jonathan Alter argued during our panel on MSNBC’s ‘Dylan Ratigan Show’ today.
Personally, I think Barbara Bush’s Palin-bashing (assuming saying she hopes Palin stays in Alaska qualifies as “bashing”) has more to do with her moderate political philosophy than it does with any strategy for helping elect her son.
Having said that, I am starting to hear rumors that Jeb is telling potential prominent supporters to “keep their powder dry,” meaning not to endorse or support any 2012 candidates until they check back with him.
There is no doubt that Jeb Bush is highly qualified, and if his name were “Jeb Smith,” he would be the 2012 front-runner today.
In any event, this is good, fun speculation.

Now is a good time to remind ourselves what kind of standing Palin has, even among conservatives.
Ouch. Last place. Look, most of us admire Palin, but we know she’s not exactly our brightest conservative light out there nor our best hope. Let’s be honest.
bluegill on March 28, 2013 at 6:43 PM
Could you please expound on what exactly “you admire” about SP since you plan to post continuously anyway? Just curious.
poli-nana on March 28, 2013 at 6:47 PM
I think she is a patriotic woman who is right on many issues and who is brave to put herself out there to try to make a difference. Does that mean I want to see her as the face of conservatism or as the nominee of our party? Definitely not.
bluegill on March 28, 2013 at 6:52 PM
I know Todd endorsed Newt, but Sarah didn’t. Actually, she didn’t endorse anyone for President. Sarah is smarter than that:-)
bluefox on March 28, 2013 at 6:53 PM
Yep, shaking in their boots, they were:-)
bluefox on March 28, 2013 at 6:56 PM
Amen to that. Thanks for posting that.
bluefox on March 28, 2013 at 6:58 PM
Bluegill, thank you for the answer. Your answer shows why you shouldn’t be trying to tear her down. She most likely will not be a presidential nominee due to the media and the heiarchy republicans, but by trying to diminsh her as one of our voices, you do harm to the causes we conservatives can agree on. Let her voice be heard and be glad that there is one more out there brave enough to speak out on issues we agree we care about.
poli-nana on March 28, 2013 at 6:59 PM
Exactly. Romney dissed the base, the Tea Party and Sarah Palin.
There is a reason they call the Republican Party the Stupid Party.

bluefox on March 28, 2013 at 7:03 PM
Neither Newt nor Palin caused Romney’s defeat. He did that himself, along with his Advisors and McCains’ Advisors on board. Don’t leave the “genius” Rove out of it either.
Romney was a hard sell anyway, then hire incompetents to run your campaign. Diss the Conservative base, the Tea Party and Sarah Palin and you are done!!
Romney was not supposed to win by the way. How many Republicans in either the House or Senate supported him in public? Newt did and campaigned for him.
Fact is, some of these RINOS criticized him over Benghazi.
bluefox on March 28, 2013 at 7:11 PM
they can’t let her voice be heard without their naysaying. If they do and Palin is heard without the filter than people may begin to understand how they were duped by the MSM, the GOPE and the liberals. It is why every Palin news is followed by nashing of the teeth and cries of polarizing and snowbilly and quitter. Becasue if people actually listened to what GOv Palin had to say they might agree with her and then begin to question why she was protrayed the way she has been
unseen on March 28, 2013 at 7:11 PM
Enough of your b.s. It’s been pointed out to you a million times why she resigned and when asked what you would have done under the same circumstances, you refuse to answer because you know you would have done the same dang thing, but admitting that would destroy your narrative and prohibit you from engaging in your Palin envy. Pathetic.
topdawg on March 28, 2013 at 7:12 PM
9th/10th out of 23 is not last place. Why do you post lies?
unseen on March 28, 2013 at 7:13 PM
Wrong. There were 23 candidates listed plus write-ins. Palin finished in the top half. Plus, the poll closed right after her speech and most people had already voted.
If the poll was opened instead of closed right after her speech, I bet she would have finished in top 3. Notice that Cruz, who spoke after the poll closed, only received 4% of the vote. Check the youtube hits on each of their speeches and you will see Palin had almost as much as all the others combined.

I could maybe see posting things that might be incorrect and not knowing it but the Palin haters post outright lies. saying she finished last….lie saying her TV show was a failure when it was a huge success…lie. Saying she didn’t help in 2010 and 2012 lies. Lie after lie after lie. I mean how stupid are they how dishonest? these are the people Palin turns off liars and idiots. And we are suppose to carethat she polarizes those types of people. I say polarize away. no wonder they hate her. Palin is supposed to be “beneath them” yet Palin’s character shows these people up for the turds they are on a daily basis. Like shinning the spotlight on cockroaches. I’m sure the cockroaches thinks the spotlight is polarizing.

Just in case anybody reading here still grants this fishwife poster any credibility, she keeps repeating this “dead last” nonsense LONG AFTER we’ve established already that Palin finished tenth out of TWENTY-THREE candidates in that poll. Granted we’re talking about a straw poll, but still, this nitwit, who insults Palin endlessly and then throws in that laughable disclaimer about admiring Palin, takes every opportunity to repeat whatever nonsense is available to paint Palin in the worst possible light.

Let me make a number of points;
1) I do admire the clownish, unserious quitter in her tight T-shirts and hi heels;
2) I have only slight problems with her big hair, large-boobs, screechy voice and her complete unfitness to hold any office;
3) I simply believe that this shrill harridan and her vicious, hi capacity assault wolverines are the cause for the truly great man and severely conservative Mitt Romney electoral defeat! Had they not forced the Massively Electable Mitt to reverse himself on Gun Control, Gay Marriage and Gay Issues, and had they not made an issue of his immensely popular, cost-cutting Health Care Reform Initiative AKA Romney Care I believe we’d be ushering in an era of bipartisan efforts to Balance the Budget (in a responsible, bipartisan and balanced manner); we’d be reforming Health Care in such a way that we’d be thankful for IPAB; we’d be dealing with Gun Control and America’s foolish love of Assault Weapons in a non-divisive, sensible manner and that we’d be able to simultaneously ween ourselves from our addiction to oil, advance clean energy, and combat Global Warming in a reasonable and sensible manner. All the while ensuring that Abortion is safe, legal, BUT rare. Rather than this cacophony of TEA Party rancour that does nothing but promote extremist, big-boobed Chill-Billies (whom I respect)which merely serves to advance the sales of tight T-shirts, but discredits reasonable, bipartisan Conservatism; and
4) Lastly, that Denny’s has a WHOLLY unreasonable requirement that you actually order something every hour or so, and a TOTALLY bogus limit on the amount of Boysenberry syrup can drink….I can only believe that Clownish QUITTER, whom I adore and respect, has stock in this company and she is out to get me….and I believe I can demonstrate this with Mathematical CERTAINTY.

Yep, conservatives love Sarah Palin so much that we voted her last place in the recent CPAC straw poll. That is some love. I would describe it more as having some admiration for her, but not taking her seriously. Sarah Palin is a gimmick who is not ready for prime time.

Put down the I-phone, take the bus from Denny’s back to the “home” and have a little lie down….
JFKY on March 28, 2013 at 8:25 PM
Sweet Jesus. The harridan who claims to “admire” Palin and still writes her off as a gimmick is actually doubling down on the “Palin came in dead last on the straw poll” nonsense.
There were TWENTY-THREE NAMES on the poll. Hot Air posted the percentages of only TEN of those names. To believe that Palin came in dead last is to believe that Hot Air (and everybody else reporting on those polls) sat on the percentages of THIRTEEN people who did better than Palin, but decided to post Palin’s percentage anyway. But here are the results, per Politisite:
Politisite explicitly has Palin coming in 10th out of 23. Is Politisite lying?
Aitch748 on March 28, 2013 at 8:34 PM

bluefox on March 28, 2013 at 8:40 PM
Sorry, but rearranging the order of names to make it seem like Sarah Palin didn’t come in last isn’t going to help your case. In fact, it only makes you look sillier. Do tell us which candidates Sarah Palin got more votes than. Go ahead. Do I have to break out the vote totals and post them here and embarrass you people? I really don’t want to have to do that. If you want to claim victory because Sarah Palin got more votes than Tim Scott, then great. I think it says a lot.

But I’m sure the fishwife will double-down some more and keep repeating the dead-last thing. Hell, she’ll start repeating that Tim Scott beat her, so I guess Politisite and every other site is just suppressing Tim Scott’s percentage for some reason.

Aitch748 on March 28, 2013 at 9:17 PM

ddrintn on March 28, 2013 at 9:18 PM
By no one. Bluegill just pulled that out of her butt.
Nobody cares about the CPAC straw poll, it’s one of the biggest cons in Republican politics. During primary years, candidates bus in their supporters to skew the results. The CPAC poll is complete bullsh*t from beginning to end.
The fact that bluegill tried to use the CPAC straw poll to buttress her argument that Palin is a declining force in conservative politics just shows you what a jealous little Mittlerite bluegill has become.
Perhaps bluegill should worry about all those cabinet positions that are due to open up in the new Romney White House, right Bluegill?

TEPJoePa on March 29, 2013 at 12:09 AM
This doesn’t surprise me at all. When you listen to her worshipers on this website, they will credit her for every Republican victory out there. But they will never admit that she is at fault nor to blame for any of her endless screw ups. It’s insane. Sarah Palin thinks the conservative political world revolves around her. It is as if she and her worshipers believe everything is about her.
When Sarah Palin finishes near the very bottom of the CPAC straw poll, they have an excuse for it. When Sarah Palin can’t name a single founding father, they blame someone else. When Sarah Palin quits her job as governor before even finishing a single term, they explain that away as well.
Yet they will endlessly bash any Republican not named Palin. The only Republicans they won’t bash are the ones they say owe their electoral victories to, you guessed it, Sarah.
It is idiotic, and they are an embarrassment to this website.
bluegill on March 29, 2013 at 12:38 AM

Fixed it for me. Now it more reasonably fits your description.
You’ve been proven wrong about that CPAC poll numerous times, but you still cling tenaciously to your perverted interpretation of it. I don’t run into such bull-headed, obtuse obstinance very often, and I’m sure glad I don’t. People like that are both clueless and arrogant, which is a bad combination.
theotherone on March 29, 2013 at 4:00 AM
So why did Palin finish only one percent above “undecided”? Are you saying that was a good finish? The poll results I saw apparently didn’t include the people who didn’t get 1%. Shouldn’t this be Sarah Palin’s crowd? Face it, there really isn’t a strong desire among conservatives to have Palin run. The only people who want Palin to run are partisan Democrats. Why? Because they know she would be extremely easy to beat.
Sarah Palin lost to the uninvited Christie! You seriously can’t be spinning this as good news for her.
Let’s be honest with each other, okay?
bluegill on March 29, 2013 at 4:20 AM
It has come to my attention that some Palinistas on this website want me to clarify the above poll results. Apparently, Sarah Palin didn’t come in last place. She only came in last place among the people who garnered 1% or more of the vote.
So, yes, Palinistas, hold your heads up high and know that, while Palin came in an abysmal 10th place and only got 3% of the vote at her big CPAC attempted comeback, at least she didn’t come in last, since apparently some others received votes, but not enough to be reported.
bluegill on March 29, 2013 at 4:26 AM
As long as the fishwife keeps doubling down on how Palin is so over for coming in at “an abysmal 10th place”, I’ll keep pointing out that there were TWENTY-THREE PEOPLE on the straw poll. Only FIVE of those names got more than 5%, and Palin tied with Jindal at 3%. Cruz and Carson, both also very popular with conservatives lately, each got only 4% — wow, only one percentage point better than that cowardly surrender-monkey attention-whore snowbilly that even conservatives have had just about enough of (/sarc). And THIRTEEN people did WORSE than Palin, but of course they’re all nobodies anyway, including Rick Perry.
TWENTY-THREE PEOPLE. Palin is slightly above the middle of the list of ballot results. We STILL haven’t gotten the nonstop-nagging green-eyed harridan fishwife to admit to that much, but she’s now retreated to, “Well, maybe Palin didn’t come in DEAD LAST place, but she STILL performed horribly.”
Amusing sidenote: That hideous horror of the Dominionist socon movement that the GOP can’t scrape off their shoes fast enough, Rick Santorum, came in THIRD place, and HE only got a measly eight percent.

What embarrassing slobber from a Palin worshiper. The truth is that liberals are the ones who want Sarah Palin to be the face of conservatism. Deal with it, Palin groupies.
The Palin worshipers and the liberals both share the same goal of pushing the incompetent former governor Palin into the headlines.
