Megyn Kelly in GQ?

posted at 4:45 pm on November 19, 2010 by Matt Lewis

Mediabistro reports that Fox News’ Megyn Kelly “is in the 2010 GQ Men of the Year issue, which hit newsstands this week.”

According to New York Magazine,

She talks about her fan e-mail: “Some of them just say, ‘You’re hot” — which, you know, I don’t find insulting. But the ones that go a little over the top get deleted right away,” she said. “My rule is, if anybody writes in asking for a head shot and compliments me or the show or just wants one, that’s fine, they can have a head shot. But if they write anything perverted, they’re not getting one … I know what’s going to happen to that head shot.”

Kelly is obviously attractive.  She’s also incredibly smart.

But while it’s not uncommon for TV personalities, commentators and even journalists to benefit from their attractiveness (hey — how do you think I made it this far?), I still can’t help but wonder if being this overtly sexy is a smart move.

Thoughts???

Smart or not, I’m not going to complain.

But seriously, if she had done this in her first year or so at FOX, it would have been a mistake. At this point, she’s proven her intelligence enough to get a pass on doing something silly like this.

As long as she’s got the brains to compliment her beauty, there’s nothing wrong with using her looks to advance her career. We’re not dealing with a Contessa Brewer here who has her job solely because of her appearance.

Doughboy on November 19, 2010 at 4:51 PM

In answer to your question, no, not a smart move.

Mason on November 19, 2010 at 4:51 PM

I would have to tell her “Your to young for me sweetheart.”

docflash on November 19, 2010 at 4:51 PM

Hmm, not a smart move if she wants to be considered a serious journalist (stop that snickering in the back).

If she wants to be a “People’s” magazine style journalist, okay.

But otherwise, this wasn’t smart.

Depends on what she views herself as.

I don’t think it’s a smart move. Why go the Kardashian route when you are already a success unless of course you are looking to make a career change. Keeping up with Megyn perhaps?

stoutj734 on November 19, 2010 at 4:53 PM

There’s no problem with it at all since she does have the brains to back up her beauty. But then I hope she isn’t going to complain that she isn’t taken more seriously than she deserves.

She’s smart (despite attending SU…), funny and her show is first rate, so I think the risk is low. If she was just starting out, I’d said it’s a bad move, but now? Go for it, cookie puss!

I remember when Diane Sawyer got tons of flack for the white shirt shot many years ago. I think if Megyn weren’t so obviously intelligent this would be a mistake. But to me this is more of a dare to not take her seriously. If all you’re doing is looking at her boobs or legs then she’s going to make a fool of you.

AnninCA on November 19, 2010 at 5:01 PM

AngusMc on November 19, 2010 at 5:02 PM

I’m disappointed with Kelly. I remember when she first joined the network and worked the legal beat. She explained complex legal issues well. (I’m a lawyer.) And she was good when she challenged O’Reilly in his demagoguing of court decisions, explaining when necessary that principled adherence to process sometimes trumps the seemingly just result.

Unfortunately, I think she has gotten a bit too enamored of fame and fortune and has sold out on principles. She now demagogues worse than O’Reilly, shouting down guests, twisting their positions, and ignoring the complexities of many issues.

Yes, she’s attractive and smart. Too bad she doesn’t put those assets to better use. She could have been a more attractive and conservative version of Greta. Instead, she’s become O’Reilly with boobs and bangs. And that’s not attractive.

In life everyone gets dealt a particular set of cards, MK just so happen to get dealt 3 aces, looks, smarts and a great personality. Everyone’s entitled to the hand they’ve got to the fullest advantage to get ahead in the world, if at the end of the hand you’ve left some cards unplayed and lose out on taking the pot you,ve no one to blame but yourself.

In the end it comes down to, use it or lose it.

rplat on November 19, 2010 at 5:07 PM

Probably not a smart move. No question she’s drop-dead gorgeous, but since she does interviews from a conservative point of view on Fox, does this damage her credibility?

Agree, she’s got it all. Some of the others do, too, on other networks, btw.

But she’s fun to watch.

However, I didn’t even recognize her in this photo.

I’d sue, if I were her. It’s a travesty of her real beauty. This is a comic book version of the sexy woman.

AnninCA on November 19, 2010 at 5:09 PM

Megyn Kelly is beautiful, smart, and conservative. We conservatives don’t worry about appearances as much as liberals do, it’s a brilliant move. It’s going to drive the left nuts, just like all the other beautiful women who are conservatives and aren’t afraid to show their beauty.

You think JFK or even Obama didn’t try a little sex appeal?

annoyinglittletwerp on November 19, 2010 at 5:13 PM

Yes, we can appreciate women’s intelligence and beauty. That is what’s so incredible about them (from the male POV).

But I’m not sure this is the best way of, if you will, showing those qualities.
