Good news: James Bond and Indiana Jones hooking up to fight aliens

posted at 7:51 pm on November 19, 2010 by Allahpundit

Here’s where I complain that the concept feels just a bit too gimmicky and endless fanboy commenters respond that the graphic novel is the greatest thing ever and only a RINO would say otherwise. Fair enough; I haven’t read it. But this is pure paint-by-numbers blockbuster material, no? A western — with aliens and wicked F/X? And Harrison Ford? And isn’t that James Bond? And look, it’s the hot communist from the future who tried to save us from the Republican armageddon! All we need now is a superhero element to guarantee a box office gross bigger than Obama’s last annual deficit. Bingo: Directed by Jon Favreau, the man behind “Iron Man.” $500 million or bust!

I think I’m only feeling lukewarm about this because the last high-tech western I saw in theaters went badly. Very, very badly. Exit question: Time to rent “Westworld” and get my appetite back?

Blowback

/rant Why oh why must she(Olivia Wilde) be in all the new movies I want to see(new Tron). She’s a horrid actress. I rejoiced when she left House. /endrant

PS She’s not even good eye candy! Argh!

I think Hollywood should make a movie from Stephen Kings Gunslinger series.

mizflame98 on November 19, 2010 at 8:12 PM

I hear they are. And Ron Howard is involved with that as well.

mechkiller_k on November 20, 2010 at 8:11 AM

The Cowboys are 2-7 for God’s sake!! They wont beat the Lions let alone Aliens!

WhatsRight on November 19, 2010 at 8:28 PM

I”LL TAKE THAT BET!. Never underestimate the ability of the Lions to lose a game. If they are not up by 14 points by the half chances are they will lose.

What’s the difference between a Lions quarterback and a dollar bill? You can get four quarters out of a dollar.

I hear that Grand Rapids MI. asked the NFL for a professional football team for thier city. They were turned down because if Grand Rapids got a professional team then Detroit would want one.

BAZZINGA!

For a good high-tech western series, you should check out Firefly (the series) and Serenity (the motion picture). Good Stuff!

Then it’s already dead before it begins. When’s the last time Opie had a hit? Splash? Parenthood?

James Bond and Indiana Jones hooking up to fight aliens

I thought James Bond and Indiana Jones were actually going to be in the movie, not just the actors!!! I must need to get my sarc meter recalibrated.

Put me in the cautiously optimistic camp. I haven’t read any graphic novels, but I did love Firefly. Also, I was very skeptical about SK’s Gunslinger series, but my brother forced me to read it. It really surprised me. Typically, I like my fantasy, sci fi, and westerns seperated, but I have encountered examples where the genres have been successfully blended. Yes. I am a dork.

Backdraft?

mizflame98 on November 20, 2010 at 9:56 AM

C’mon, fighting aliens with a Colt revolver? Everyone knows that’s a job for a semi-auto.

As long as it is legal and you have your CC permit for any handguns. /s

I’m IN. Enough said.

itzWicks on November 20, 2010 at 10:31 AM

Please. This is the most pathetic, ridiculous movie concept ever…a disgrace, really.

I’ll totally watch it.

That is exactly how I feel. o.o It’s foolish. Insane, even.

Can’t wait for it to hit the box office. >.>

Watch the Kevin Smith stage show on DVD: in his discussion of rewriting the Superman franchise, he visits the (then) director who has one requirement – that Superman face a final battle with a robotic spider.

She might be a political idiot, but my God, is Olivia Wilde beautiful.

Wow.

madne0 on November 20, 2010 at 3:22 PM

I’m gonna see it, but it makes me nervous.

I’ll give them one thing, they didn’t give away everything in the trailer (I hope – if they did, there’s no plot at all).

Merovign on November 20, 2010 at 4:02 PM

I was hoping they would bring back Brisco County Jr. It looks like this is it.
