“Dancing with the Stars” insider: The “creditability” of the show will be hurt if Bristol Palin wins

posted at 6:22 pm on November 19, 2010 by Allahpundit

Mind you, this is a show whose previous winners include a Playboy playmate and Donny Osmond.

I’ve never seen an episode, but now that the hyperventilating has reached this unfathomable level of stupidity, I feel obliged to phone in a vote on Bristol’s behalf on Monday night. Imagine the melodious screeching from her critics afterwards if she wins. Their tears will taste … increditable.

“This will be a disaster for the show if Bristol wins,” one TV insider tells me. “Any creditability the show had will be over. It will go from being a dancing competition to a popularity competition where whoever has the most rabid fan base will always win no matter how little talent they have.”

And while it’s true Bristol’s dancing has dramatically improved since the season began, no one with working eyes would put her in the same league as the other remaining stars, Jennifer Grey and Kyle Massey.

“Another problem the producers foresee is that after Bristol wins no one in Hollywood will ever want to be on the show again,” a well-placed ABC source tells me. “Why would a real star want to compete and lose against someone like [former U.S. Senate candidate] Christine O’Donnell or Levi Johnston. It’s humiliating. The producers know they are in big trouble for sure.”

Well, they could simply bar political personalities from the show from now on. Or, if they’re smart, they’ll make next season’s contestants nothing but political personalities. O’Donnell and Levi are obvious choices, but they’ll both likely be voted out early due to public antipathy. That’ll leave us with crowd favorites — Dale Peterson, Basil Marceaux, the “Rent Is Too Damn High” guy, and of course America’s candidate, who’s my odds-on pick to win it all. Admit it, you’d watch.

Via the Radio Equalizer, here’s evidence of how deeply this moronic non-scandal has penetrated the country’s cultural consciousness. Are we sure Sarah’s still the most famous Palin?

I have to wonder, AP: Why hasn’t this venomous beeotch Meredith gotten the ban hammer yet?

NoLeftTurn on November 19, 2010 at 9:57 PM

She kind of a regular fixture here now. She pops in, rails against Palin and her supporters then flies away.

Definitely not ban worthy stuff.

Here is Mark playing the heck out of the guitar…plus my favorite pro dancing – Chelsie Hightower.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-6WR7-W2-g

As for the “half-son”….Mark Ballas’ parents are both professional ballroom dancers and won the “Olympics” of ballroom dancing like 10 years in a row. They lived in London and Derek (jennifer grey’s partner) and his sister Julianne moved to London and lived with them to study dance. It paid off, Derek is actually a better dancer than Mark (who is the blonde male dancing with chelsie in the posted video).

Hey – don’t judge me for knowing all this. My friend’s brother was on the show a few seasons ago and I learned it then. I have actually met Derek and Mark – Super nice guys, especially Mark.

ramrants on November 19, 2010 at 9:46 PM

That’s all kinds of cool!

I didn’t know who any of these folks were until this year, but Mark seems to be a seriously good guy, and yeah, Derek (I think I said David earlier D’oh) is a great dancer.

That’s neat that you got to meet them.

good post on freerepublic:

Sarah Palin’s political career began at Seat E, Wasilla City Council, where she served two three-year terms. In the building which housed her second grade classroom, and the office where she would later serve as Mayor, then Councilwoman Palin’s innate Reagan conservatism went to work. She saw the key functions of local government as: infrastructure development and fiscal responsibility (Palin, 2009, p. 67).

•Councilwoman Palin focused on reducing property taxes and redefining the city government’s role (Palin, 2009, p. 64).
•Supported 2% sales tax with a corresponding reduction in property taxes. The sales tax was fairer and more optional, and kept reduced government control over what Wasilla residents owned (Palin, 2009, p. 65).
•Opposed master-planned community type zoning regulations and favored retaining a do-it-yourself approach (Palin, 2009, p. 65-66).
•Opposed development plan that would have required residents of new sub-divisions to pay for weekly garbage removal – by a company owned by city council member Nick Carney (Palin, 2009, p. 66).
•Voted against mayoral pay raise (Palin, 2009, p. 66).
•Personally read, reviewed, and understood every line item in city budgets, every word of proposed regulations, and ordinances, and took time to know her constituents’ concerns.
•Councilwoman Palin took constituent calls to her home at all hours of the night, including holidays and weekends (Palin, 2009, p. 68).
“In local politics, your constituents are your neighbors, family, friends, and sometimes, even your enemies. You see them as the grocery store, the post office, and the hockey rink. Often politicians who make it to state and national office forget that those good people – the gas station mechanic, the local farmer, the scores of mom-and-pop shop owners who form the backbone of our economy – put them into office, and they are the ones who should be at the forefront of our minds” (Palin, 2009, p. 68).

If Bristol Palin wins, so frigging what?!!!!

Dancing With The Stars is not even a dance competition anymore! It is a stupid, boneheaded, glitzy, schmaltzy popularity contest!

This is why a lot of the professionals they have had on this show, including Edyta Sliwinska and Alec Mazo, have quit the show, because it is no longer what it started out being and has instead turned into something of a joke among legit dance competitions.

If Bristol wins, all it proves is that between Jennifer Grey and Kyle Massey, Bristol is the one who is the most popular among the entire cast this season and who ended up getting the most votes.

So someone tell me what the heck is wrong with that!!!!

pilamaye on November 19, 2010 at 10:44 PM

Bristol is a fat, talentless, attention wh*re. She should be home taking care of her baby, not spending all her time trying to be famous.

You’re just upset because your mother didn’t abort you like you wish Bristol Palin had done to her baby.

Maybe not, but then I don’t think Romney, Huckabee, Thune, Pawlenty, Daniels or Gingrich are either. But then I don’t have to say that over and over.

Yes, it’s just that every time I say something nice about Palin and her daughter, it is assumed that I really want her to be President. I think that Palin and her family are nice people and I hope they rake in mucho dollars, but that doesn’t mean that I think she should be President. I however do think that Pawlentry, Daniels, or Thune might be the generic Republican who becomes President. Sadly, Future President Marco Rubio was not elected in 2008 or something so that we can make him the next President Reagan.

WTF?

Would that be the same Tim Pawlenty that wanted a REGIONAL cap and tax system?

Is that the same Mitch Daniels who wants a “truce” on social issues and thinks a VAT tax is just groovy? OH, and the same Mitch Daniels who when asked by Bret Baier about Bush’s screw ups on fiscal issues did the “ain’t my fault dance” even though he was Bush’s OMB Director?

And is this the same John Thune who just voted for the “food safety act” that basically turns our food production over to the UN?

Yeah, one of those generic mother%#&@^$ are just what the doctor ordered. You bet’cha!

Oh and Rubio? He’s a Bushie. Couldn’t WAIT to run away from the Tea Party and join the establishment hacks like John Cornyn. He’s Scott Brown with a better tan.

All of these people are sure losers. Not just losers as candidates, but losers for America.

Plus, he was my childhood crush and still looks pretty damn good for a grandpa!

Common Sense on November 20, 2010 at 2:24 AM

These whiners keep complaining that the only reason she is still there is because of who her mother is.

The ONLY reason they care that a young girl who had ABSOLUTELY NO experience, and has come a LONG way and has received 9′s and high praise from the judges, and is competing against someone who KNEW how to dance, and might win, is BECAUSE of who her mother is.

If she was an Obama or Clinton daughter they would be praising her under dog status. They are hating on, and attacking a young girl, and crying and complaining about a stupid dancing show (well, a stupid show that i like) because of their Palin Derangement Syndrome.

It’s not like this is the first time an underdog beat a better dancer.

They were all whining because Bristol beat Brandy, and they thought Brandy should still be there. Well, KYLE beat Brandy, too. Why is no one attacking him?

They are just idiots. Idiots, I tell ya.

Say it with me, viewers: It is only a television show.

Win or lose, Bristol Palin had some fun, made some coin, and learned some life lessons that will carry her to the grave. As for the rest of us who are watching the watchers of such shows, we really need to keep the sedatives within arm’s reach in case such souls react badly to a Palin win.

Gang-of-One on November 20, 2010 at 10:06 AM

I’ve avoided these DWTS threads. I haven’t even bothered to read them, other then the titles. That being said….I have but one question.

WHAT CREDIBILITY??? It’s a show. A contest. The viewers phone in their votes, yes? So what credibility? They give the outcome to viewer voting, much like American Idol. I’ve seen people win on that show, where I thought someone in prior weeks deserved a win more. That’s the consequences of letting tweens vote with their hormones rather than with their ears.

Same thing here. Bristol is winning based on who she is, not her ability, and the producers are handing the votes to viewers. Tough noogies. Sure there are better dancers, but someones are throwing the crumbs to the lil girl from Alaska, rather than a dried up has been from sitcom land. Yeesh.

capejasmine on November 20, 2010 at 10:19 AM

The same people that are complaining about this being political are the same people that saw NO problem with Ms. USA (or whatever it’s called) being politicized ie. that Prejean woman not winning because the gay guy was….butthurt….over her honest answer to a question.

DethMetalCookieMonst on November 20, 2010 at 10:19 AM

The “creditability” of the show will be hurt if Bristol Palin wins

I’m certain this dutifully concerned citizen felt exactly the same during the last election when he observed a politically correctly chosen, incompetent, inexperienced, friend of evil folks, dancing amongst the faux halos and pillars?

Don L on November 20, 2010 at 10:32 AM

Change the rules of the show to only the judge’s score counting and the show will be relegated to the Ballroom Dancing venue on PBS – not a massive audience. This type of controversy is a goldmine for ABC.

There have been many, far worse dancers than Bristol who have lasted far into the season way beyond their dancing abilities should have allowed.

They don’t ask you to vote for the “best” dancers at the end of the show – they ask you to vote for your favorite. What else would you expect when viewers can vote 5 times per phone number.

The liberals should clean up their own voting act. They voted for an untalented, unproven, empty suit for President. And, to be fair, many of them probably got to vote five times for each relative in the cemetary.

iamsaved on November 20, 2010 at 10:37 AM

Anyone who has ever been on certain websites knows they send people to vote on various things all the time — this is no different. Anyone saying Palin deserves to win on dancing has a screw loose because she has been the worst from the beginning. That’s the facts. Does it make any difference in the long run? Not to most people but the win by Bristol will be seen as it was cheating by Palin supporters. Having Sarah Palin asked the supporters of Bristol to watch her show is only going to add fuel to the fire that her supporters are behind Bristol’s win.

She never should have been on the program but the producers wanted publicity and in their realm of thinking any publicity, good or bad, is better than none. I told some friends from Day One she is going to be the winner whether she can dance or not because Palin supporters will make sure it happens.

Watched a little bit out of curiosity at the beginning and she was horrible but haven’t watched it since. No great loss if the show tanks IMHO.

I seem to remember this very same tactic being used a few years back when Guy Fiere was vying to be ‘The Next Food Network Star’ . Though on a slightly smaller scale. Many members of Guy’s home town and else where cast their votes. Regardless of the fact that Guy may or may not have been the best contestant.

dhunter on November 20, 2010 at 8:23 PM

As usual, Allah is the one who is being “unfathomably stupid.” He has never watched the show, hence he has no idea how truly BAD Bristol Palin actually is. Neither does he seem to appreciate how massively popular these competition shows are. Yes there has been gaming on these shows before (e.g. Sanjaya Malakar, brought alarming close to the finals of American Idol by a website called Vote for the Worst). These pranks are extremely annoying to those people who are actually interested in the competition, and we are talking about a population here that would swing any national election 50 times over. Is it really “a moronic non-scandal” to get such a massive group of people seriously pissed off at the Palin family?

But stupidest of all is Allah’s failure to do the most basic due diligence and find out that the people behind the pro-Bristol vote rigging are not Bristol fans at all, never mind Sarah Palin fans. The vote rigging is being coordinated by a cabal of FLAMING HOMOSEXUAL PRANKSTERS.

If Allah wants to be of service he should be getting the word out about who is actually to blame for the travesty that has already occurred just with Bristol’s advancement to the finals. It is not just a bad joke any more. We are on the verge of serious political damage. That WAPO reporter who pinned the vote-rigging on socially conservative Palin supporters (Lisa de Moraes) pulled of a true whopper of a lie-by-omission, setting conservatives up to take the blame for a truly damaging event, and Allah swallowed the whole thing hook line and sinker. Doofus.

Full disclosure: I’m still pissed at Allah for dismissing concern about Islamic symbolism in the Flight 93 memorial precisely BECAUSE the giant Islamic shaped crescent points to Mecca: “if you need a protractor to properly express your outrage, you’ve probably gone too far.” Talk about unfathomable stupidity. At some point he is going to have to fix that devastating mistake (taking Malkin out of play on what from the beginning was HER issue). For now, how about just not getting played by homosexual pranksters?

Details of WAPO-Homosexual ploy here.

Say what you want about DWTS, it’s a fairly wholesome show that the whole family can watch without the cringe factor that most trash on tv comes with these days. Brooke Burke practically pleads with viewers to vote for the couple they want to see return each week, but as per usual, the left thinks we’re too stupid to know what we want. Go Bristol! I have not watched every season but have watched a few. By far and away the person you has got the farthest on the least was the Woz, man he was bad, but just kept at it. It is certainly a popularity contest, you can vote even before the show stars. I like Bristol’s dancing, it has gotten good the last couple of weeks, she is a better dancer than some of the other semi-finalists from years past, maybe on par with the low end of the finalists. I think Brandy’s partner mostly lost it for her. I was really sad when Audrina lost, that was one really good looking lady.

I say we make this the mother of all backfires and put the show to bed once and for all by stuffing the ballot box (so to speak) for Bristol.

What better way to get even with the entertainment industry than by costing a bunch of them their jobs by destroying the, *ahem* “credibility” of their show?

Sink their battleship.

SuperCool on November 21, 2010 at 2:04 AM

Never watched the show, but this coming Monday I am going to be voting with my cell, my landline, and my computer in an attempt to tally up votes like an ACORN office near a Chicago cemetery, if for no other reason than to continue to showcase to the American public how dangerously insane the Left is. Now the studio is getting threats and receiving letters with white powder in them. Do not think for a second if these people ever achieved the power they crave that they would not shut this and many other sites down and haul uss of to “re-education camps.”
With the Left becoming so unhinged over this I say we take advantage of that and push them even further in the hopes that the rest of the public can finally wake up and see what we are dealing with.

I never watched DWTS prior to this season. I was curious to see Bristol Palin perform and found her very sweet and sincere so I continued to watch. She is a kid who was never even asked to dance when she attended school and DWTS was aware of this when they invited her to join the show this season. She started, as a fish out-of-water. Everyone of her competitors is in the entertainment business, in one way or another, including Jennifer Grey and Brandy. Jennifer Grey, the daughter of the great entertainer, Joel Grey, has been in show business for decades. She is a former student at New York’s prestigious Dalton School, where she studied dance. Brandy’s resume lists one of her skills, “dancer”, etc.

The rules have not changed on DWTS. The judge’s votes represent 50% of the score and viewer votes represent the remaining 50%. Bristol Palin’s only crime is stealing the hearts of viewers and receiving the most votes from them each week. She has improved incredibly, each and every week and her last three performances are outstanding and she is, without a doubt, the most improved dancer on the show. Her partner, Mark Ballas, is spectacular and through patience and kindness has made her a good dancer. Her last three performances speak to their hard work:

Paso Doble: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ohl-5t-y1yU

Bristol Palin is a sweet hard working kid. At least attempt to give credit, where credit is due.

Palin has everyone so, so upset. I have to laugh, really. Barbara Bush is now bashing her, for heaven’s sakes.

It’s just bizarre.

You’re most welcome, OlympicLeprechaun. I agree that the Slow Waltz was breathtaking. Most of the audience did, too. Lot’s of tears. A great deal of respect and genuine love has developed between Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas and his beautiful choreography and his choice of music for that Slow Waltz, showcased it. Mark had to fight back tears, even during the judging. It was very touching. You may enjoy this Tango, which Bristol and Mark performed Week 6. It was so good, the judges requested that they do an encore, the following day. It’s one of my favorites. To suggest that Bristol Palin is not holding her own is a lie.

If you haven’t killed your TV by now, don’t bother, it’s too late for you.

This was taken from a journal written by Mark Ballas for USA Today (Ballas is Bristol’s Dance Partner) I think it gives an idea of what Bristol has had to deal with.

As for Bristol, she knows how thankful I am to call her my partner and friend. What Bris doesn’t know is how thankful I am for what she has taught me this season. It can be summed up in two words: determination and respect. Everyone goes through his or her own version of pain and endurance issues on the show — both the celebs and the dancers. Some pain is physical, for others it’s the pain of stress, and for some it’s the pain of having your life taken away from you as you prepare each week.

Bristol deals with a special pain of having people wanting and hoping for her to fail and dealing with hate issues no one should ever have to encounter. But probably her greatest source of pain is hearing what is said about her son. Fortunately, she has this miraculous way of dealing with it and focusing on getting better each week and proving to herself, that despite all that noise, she is a woman to be respected.

So tell me, how is sticking with the rules of the program somehow undermining the credibility of the show. If you’re gona give people at home a shot in the decision process, you gotta live by what they say. There is nothing more credible than that.

Sharpton is racist. Those who support him are racist. Those of the same skin color are almost all racist.
