Meg Whitman tidies up after her maid

posted at 7:32 am on November 18, 2010 by Andrew Malcolm

Turns out former eBay CEO Meg Whitman spent about $144.2 million of her own money to not get elected governor of California.

That’s likely the most expensive personally-financed political campaign in U.S. history, larger even than the hair-care budget for Flo, the annoying Progressive insurance lady.

Now we need to up that Whitman expense total by another $5,500.

The unsuccessful Republican candidate to run the financially-embattled state has agreed to pay off leftover financial claims from her former household maid, an illegal alien named Nikki Diaz Santillan.

Back in September, she just happened to come forward with a Democratic celebrity lawyer when Whitman’s race was still close with the old-former and now old-new governor, Jerry Brown, who also happens to be a Democrat.

At the time the maid said she had been fired when Whitman decided to run for governor.

Diaz Santillan thought she’d like to have more like an additional $8,000-$10,000 in undocumented expenses from Whitman. But after several hours of negotiation Wednesday with state labor officials in San Jose,  both sides agreed to the smaller settlement and proclaimed themselves victorious.

“We do our best for our employers,” Diaz Santillan read from a statement, “and in return all we ask is to be treated with respect and to be paid for all the work we do.”

Tucker Bounds, a Whitman spokesman, said the maid’s claim of exploitation was political exploitation from the start. “This is the last dying gasp of a political act,” he said.

After 20 years in the U.S and having two children, both now American citizens, Diaz Santillan remains an illegal immigrant. She has hired an attorney to make her case for legal residency.

Whitman is packing up her campaign paraphernalia to auction on eBay.

With 10% unemployment, we don’t need more unskilled, middle-aged illegal aliens applying for residency here.

Deport the maid.

why?

But after several hours of negotiation Wednesday with state labor officials in San Jose

The state is broke and falling apart but is paying state employees to pursue salary claims by criminal aliens against a citizen who has likely paid millions in state income tax. meg, bring your money and the jobs created from it to Florida.

Why is that woman not in jail?

tinkerthinker on November 18, 2010 at 7:51 AM

Please note that post-election, Nikki Diaz Santillan’s attorney, media whore Gloria Allred has suddenly gone almost completely silent. Now that they got a whopping $5500 (how much of that goes to Allred and if nothing, then who is paying for her services?) how soon will Nikki Diaz Santillan be thrown under the bus since her usefullness to the Dems has ended?

Carl on November 18, 2010 at 7:53 AM

She has hired an attorney to make her case for legal residency.

The last thing we need is someone who lies and plays the “race” and “illegal” card. Boot her butt out.

Fine her whatever she stole from Whitman.

darwin on November 18, 2010 at 7:53 AM

The maid needs to be deported. She has flouted our law for 20 years and since she wants to be a public figure anyway, let her serve as an example to others.

Murf76 on November 18, 2010 at 7:55 AM

Whitman should pull up stakes and get the hell out of California before the riots start. The GOP will not bail CA out and they’re heading straight into the toilet.

Get out now.

That’s enough money for her and her kids to be delivered back to their own Nation. Good riddance.

Ted, I’m thinking the rest of America is going to have to lock the gate to keep them all in. There are no sane people left there IMHO.

Just wait until the riots. California will be the first to collapse into chaos. There simply isn’t enough money and nothing the left does can change that. Handouts and union benefits will be cut. Unemployment will skyrocket, and the nutbags living off others for all these years will go ballistic.

repvoter on November 18, 2010 at 8:20 AM

No. You know who needs to be in jail?

Meg Whitman’s Romneybot campaign staff. The guys who blew $160 Million Dollars (not $144 million, you peasants!) on the worst campaign since Romney ’08.

I hope to G-d they got some hookers and booze in Vegas out of this whole scam.

There ought to be a board of inquiry into this whole affair, but because the A$$Clown GOP is too busy trying to beat up on Palin, they won’t learn from their mistakes because they are too busy trying to inflict Mr. Mannequin on the Party.

Jesus. Somebody needs to horsewhipped over this. I weep for my native state.

victor82 on November 18, 2010 at 8:21 AM

treated with respect

I suppose that whining, mewling, hair in disarray, puffy eyed person begging on TV was full of SELF-respect. Who would hire her now after seeing what kind of person she is. Allred? Hispanics are letting themselves become the new blacks. I thought they had more self-respect than that. Up until this lady, I saw them as hard workers trying to get ahead.

Key West Reader on November 18, 2010 at 8:32 AM

I wonder if most Californians will be aware when they finally ‘collapse into chaos’. So far, most have not seemed to notice they are on the brink. It does explain Nancy(or Nancy explains them?)—they all live in a bubble.

jeanie on November 18, 2010 at 8:51 AM

The maid should be arrested for fraud and deported. There’s no excuse for treating her like a victim. She is a liar and a criminal.

Kalifornia and its brain-dead electorate can rot for all I care.

CantCureStupid on November 18, 2010 at 9:16 AM

Meg Whitman was a complete bust as a candidate, anyway. Couldn’t they find somebody else to run?

Ward Cleaver on November 18, 2010 at 9:19 AM

Seal the borders.
Long before some of you were the railroad dicks,Pinkerton men carried shotguns to roust the Okies and HoBo’s off freight trains heading into Mexifornia. Gonna be a real mess in the RR yards east of California when that happens again. SURE do not want LOT OF FOLKS SINGIN’ OKLAHOMA HERE I COME IN SPANISH.

Col.John Wm. Reed on November 18, 2010 at 9:34 AM

The XIVth Amendment need not be read to create anchor babies through birthright citizenship. That is because the illegal alien may not meet the “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” standard. It has never been adjudicated. Ideally Congress could pass a Rule to guide the courts. If the courts were to force a reading of birthright citizenship for the children of illegals then another Amendment could be added. That may prove widely popular.

LifeofTheMind on November 18, 2010 at 9:41 AM

More than half of all political candidates lose every election. That’s no big deal.

But Meg Whitman lost to Jerry Freaking Brown!

That’s nearly as bad as losing to Obama.

logis on November 18, 2010 at 9:46 AM

There have been at least two amnesties in the last 20 years, wtf was she doing, hell no, send her home if she was too damn stupid to take advantage of the opportunity.

dczombie on November 18, 2010 at 10:15 AM

Considering the relative size of the two states, I think Jon Corzine probably spent more money per vote than Whitman did. And he ran three statewide races on his own money. He probably spent well over $120 million on all three, and got his butt kicked the last time he ran too.

rockmom on November 18, 2010 at 10:18 AM

This illegal alien’s attorney injected herself and her client into a high level political race with an issue that was peanuts compared to the horrendous financial problems faced by California in order to elect Jerry Brown to the position of governor. Large numbers of voters were duped and now the Democrats have full responsiblilty for whatever fiscal crash occurs. Good luck and good night California.

stefano1 on November 18, 2010 at 10:18 AM

Diaz Santillan remains an illegal immigrant. She has hired an attorney to make her case for legal residency.

And guilty of identity theft (a FELONY), as well as using said documents as proof of legal residence, which is also FELONY in the State of California.

Don’t look for an arrest any time soon.

..two reasons: a nutless Arnold and an DA who is busy readying himself for his term as incoming governor.

The War Planner on November 18, 2010 at 10:50 AM

IMHO Whitman was delusional to think the Cal public would prefer her to a full blooded leftist like Brown

She did not appeal to Tea Party sympathizers like myself. Even her maid didn’t like her.

People who voted for her were voting aginst Brown. That is not enough in California

There was a great opportunity because Brown was stale. However, Cal was handed over to the RINOs up front, and that crippled their chances because they had to replace the anti establishment conservatives with other blocs, and I have never figured out who they thought they were going after

Terrible waste of money, and Whitman didn’t have Rove running from station to station trashing her during the election. You can buy an election, but money alone wont do it. You need a base, and they purged the base

We have had a few big wasteful election like this. Dole, McCain. The hold-your-nose-and-vote routine is a loser in the current climate of rage

entagor on November 18, 2010 at 10:58 AM

Simple deportation should be off the table here. She committed several acts of fraud and indentity theft for which she should be prosecuted and convicted. After she serves her sentence, then deport her.

slickwillie2001 on November 18, 2010 at 11:39 AM

Let her stay and any other illegal caught in the other 56 states send them to CA.

BruceB on November 18, 2010 at 12:11 PM

Key West Reader on November 18, 2010 at 8:10 AM

There are quite a few sane people here I’ll have you know. If you do any research on the voting you’ll realize that many counties, mine included, went straight red- Whitman, Fiorina, Yes on 23, Cooley, Maldonado, etc.

We’re here and we’re stuck with houses chained around our necks and ethics that don’t allow us to walk away. And we’ve been preparing for the imminent collapse. I pity the fools who have been mocking us for preparing- they’ll be the first to come ask for hand outs and they won’t get a thing. It’s just the coasties that think communism is such a progressive idea. Our state has a long history of badass cowboy outlaws and many of their relatives are haunting the central and east sides of the state.

NTWR on November 18, 2010 at 1:59 PM

Too bad our laws weren’t enforced when illegal immigration increased in CA 40+ years ago. Now, the children and grandchildren of illegals are voting citizens. That’s a whole lot of Democrat votes for higher taxes and freebies that wouldn’t have been.

BlancheBourgeois on November 18, 2010 at 3:15 PM

Deport.

Tres Angelas on November 18, 2010 at 3:48 PM

Nikki Diaz Santillan is hiring an attorney? I thought she already have one. Why isn’t Gloria Allred still representing her pro bono? It’s almost as though Allred dumped her when she is no longer useful.

AaronGuzman on November 18, 2010 at 4:14 PM

The result, -Whitman and anyone else that might ever go into politics or any other job where your background might be examined by the socialist stasi will only hire people that look absolutely-certainly like American citizens, and I don’t blame them a bit.
