Dumb non-scandal gets dumber: Are tea partiers cheating to help Bristol Palin on “Dancing With the Stars”?
posted at 10:13 pm on November 17, 2010 by Allahpundit
I’m starting to think that this story, and not the reaction to anything that Palin herself has said or done, is the true proof of just how far her brand has penetrated the culture’s consciousness. Until now, the whining has been confined to claiming that conservatives are phoning in to boost Bristol irrespective of her merit on the dance floor. But that accusation doesn’t have much bite, because after all there’s nothing improper about it.
On to phase two, then: Not only are conservatives boosting Bristol, they’re actually cheating by voting multiple times in order to make it happen. Those wingnut bastards.
But what isn’t widely known is the evidence—via message board comments on some conservative sites—that this mobilization involves fixing this (albeit meaningless) election through a technical snafu on ABC’s website, which allows Palin’s supporters to cast an infinite number of email votes:
“Here’s a hint: They don’t have to be VALID email addresses to register them with ABC.com, there is apparently no validation process. The just have to be formatted like a valid email address, and you must use a valid zip code and a birthdate that makes you old enough to vote. I’m voting like a democrat, all night long…”
“No, it doesn’t have to be a valid email address – I had one of my anonymous ones XXX@yahoo.com that I used, and then just did the sign-up process all over again with XXX1@yahoo.com and it worked.”
“Got my 80 votes in online…took 2 hours. I am beat”
“I only got 42 in, I have some catching up to do!”
“Lord have mercy, I voted for 3 hours online! I got 300 in.”
The fact that anyone would be willing to devote three hours to rigging a vote on “Dancing With the Stars” is, admittedly, fantastically depressing. Also depressing: The fact that ABC apparently anticipated attempts to cheat and took security precautions to prevent it. From the LA Times:
For their part, “Dancing with the Stars” executives dismissed the criticism of the show’s voting system. The hit dancing series relies not only on judges’ scores, but also public votes, which are averaged together to determine winners. This week’s results drew the largest number of votes ever in a semi-final for the show, now in its 11th season…
ABC officials stood by its results Wednesday. Though the network doesn’t require users to authenticate e-mail addresses, there are safeguards in place to prevent such fraud. (The Times agreed not to divulge the nature of that system for security reasons.)
What they’re probably doing is recording the votes by IP, not by e-mail address, so that if you vote 8,000 times from home, all but the first five sent from your modem would be disregarded. Either that or ABC’s simply lying about its security to protect the “integrity” of the show. In any case, how many Palin fans could possibly be so devoted to her that they’d be willing to sit there for hours on end clicking the “vote” button for Bristol? I’m thinking it can’t be more than, say … four or five million. Six million tops.

She cracks me up. I just really like her. I think his polls are quite different from reality, to be honest. It’s not skewing. It’s the failing of polling. They can’t really guage that intangible factor.
And I think people want to vote him out. I also think the GOP establishment is wrong about how to do this.
It’s a rocket to a new dimension kind of vote that will work, not some repeat of Bush.
People aren’t really as over the Bush prejudice as you might think.
They are still linked to this mess.

Damn it…. I didn’t know you could use phony email addresses as well… I have been voting with all my legitimate email addresses… all 22 of them.
ABC is lying. They can not be going by IP address since they say right on the voting page that when you are finished voting, you can log off and let another person in your family can log on using their email address and vote. You can also register to vote using Facebook and Twitter accounts
So, if they are not verifying email addresses (now, how hard can that be, since I see a lot of sites do it) then I guess I can go to town and vote 100′s of times next week. dancing@yahoo.com, IlikeBristol@gmail.com…. should be fun.
Go Bristol. Drive the liberals crazy. Just Dance.
PhilipJames on November 17, 2010 at 10:52 PM
I’m actually a DWTS fan. I’ve watched most of the shows since Season 1 and all these accusations are the norm every season. There is always a contestant, EVERY SEASON, that gets voted off before their fans think they should and all kinds of accusations fly around (voter fraud, Producers manipulating the voting, etc). EVERY. STINKIN. SEASON.
This is nothing new. The only thing that is new about it is that it normally doesn’t get this much attention from the MSM.
I suspect that because all this attention that has been given to Bristol still being on the show, TP conspiracies, etc. that conservatives and Tea Party peeps will now actually watch the show and vote for Bristol, even though they have never watched before, let alone voted.
Like I said, I watch every season, but I have never voted. Until Monday night. Monday was the first time in 11 seasons I actually picked up the phone and voted. And I voted for Bristol. I didn’t vote for her because she is the best dancer but because of all the nastiness she has had thrown at her. No other contestant on the show has ever had to deal with the hatred she has, and that includes Kate Gosselin (who was a disaster of a dancer and nightmare of a contestant – her partner actually walked out and quit at one point). Bristol has handled it all very well…and she is the most improved. She is also competing against people who make their living performing.
If you really want to be entertained, check out the DWTS message board. It is nothing but vile and hatred.

Is this some kind of insane joke? These bastards at the LA Times would not think twice about disclosing top secret military information. Thus endangering our country and troops. And yet they won’t divulge the secrets of the voting system for a reality show. It truly boggles the mind.

Here are some real dire scandals:
1. Soros owns 11,000 shares in the new TSA scanners – media ignore.
2. Podesta, Soros paid for, is pushing Obama to pass everything by executive orders, going forward, fast, two years, then likely not run for re-election.
3. Pig, er Sen. Rockefeller wants the FCC to outlaw FOX and MSNBC.
4. Pelosi is clinically delusional.
5. Reid is clinically dumb and dangerous.
6. Most significant of them all – media still in Obama pants, not knowing how to set themselves free.
7. Ultimate travesty – Soros will ruin the world. May he be punished soon, in this life.

Man, I hope she wins. Is she a good dancer? No. She’s pretty bad. But she’s trying…
You don’t start getting good at any part of dance for at least two to three years. And she started at the ground floor, what, a few weeks ago.
She isn’t Jennifer Grey or Brandy, who have at least had an inkling of dance training. She’s a novice. And she’s doing all right for being a noob…..
mjk on November 17, 2010 at 11:30 PM
look, I don’t watch the show and from the clips I have seen she is not a good dancer, but people who watch these shows like rooting for the underdog. Bristol Palin has taken a lot of flak for being the daughter of Sarah Palin and a lot of jokes have been made at her expense, I think there a lot of Americans rooting for her that have no plans to vote for her mother if she runs for anything.
As long as she shows improvement, then she deserves to be kept on, that’s how these things work usually. Mario Lopez didn’t win the first season and he was by far the best dancer. I think Emmit Smith won, and that was because he improved big time from the first episode. The only reason I know about that season is because I am a Cowboys fan and would get updates on his progress through ESPN which is also owned by Disney.

Hey! Leave Brooke alone! And about the dancers, you’re wrong there, Party Poopin Scientist. Julianne Hough left a few seasons ago because she got too big/busy to do the show (I’m assuming). Karina Smirnoff was in my town last week (as the celebrity dancer) to open a new dance studio. Many of the other dancers have name recognition too, plus some have other talents too. It’s a popularity contest. I’ve watched the show from day one, and have been so aggravated that people who clearly couldn’t dance were kept on the show because they have a lot of fans. I like Bristol and think she has done well, but she should have been voted off the show several weeks ago. She has been kept on by her mothers fans. Also, people like Brandy don’t get the votes sometimes because people get tired of their actions behind the scenes. I can’t stand Jennifer and nearly barf everytime she and Derek stand with his arms around her swaying back and forth. She thinks she is entitled to win it and so does Brandy. Does anyone remember Master P, who was one of the worst contestants and couldn’t dance at all and he was kept on for weeks because he drummed up votes. They all do that, but the bigger their fan base, the longer they stay on. That’s why Emmett Smith won. Mario Lopez was the best dancer by far that season, but Emmett won because he had more fans vote for him.
I wouldn’t doubt that Bristol wins this, but it’s not because she is the best dancer, or that she has progressed the most. I told my husband several weeks ago to keep an eye out – this will tell you a lot about the popularity of Sarah Palin. It has the left scared because they see the same thing.
People on here saying that this is just a show and it doesn’t do anything to help the contestants who win it don’t know much about the show. Celebrities beg to get on this show and many have had their careers jump started because of their appearance on it. You can pooh pooh it all you want, but as Joe Biden says, “It’s a big fricking deal”.

I don’t think so. When you vote on the site, their is a link to “allow others in your household to vote”. That link logs you out of the site so that somebody else can log in. An eight member household could cast 40 votes. It seems to me that ABC is encouraging multiple votes.

lol Just kidding. I only started voting for her week 6 when she got good and I only voted the 5 times allowed online. (Although online it says, “are there any other members of your household who want to vote next?” They are practically guiding people to switch email addresses and vote again.)
Also voted a few times by phone which allows a certain number, but the lines are always busy, so I stop after a few minutes.

She asked if there was anyone on CNN I could stand watching. I said, it wasn’t a matter of standing, but that I just got my news from more reliable sources. The Lefty whiners are also saying that the eeeeevil teabaggers are jamming the call-in numbers of the other contestants to suppress their votes. The bastards!
Haiku Guy on November 18, 2010 at 6:30 AM
psst, tea party people have an inside union thug at ABC.
Has anybody thought this through to it’s idiotic conclusion?

I was also thinking about putting this bumper sticker “I voted for Bistol, 300 times!!!” and see if we can’t get the insurance company to repaint my truck after it gets keyed from bumper to bumper.

Write a shell script to do the following: Vote 5 times. Open a command window (cmd.com), type iprelease, type iprenew, vote 5 more times. Type iprelease, type iprenew.
Repeat 10,000 times.

Schadenfreude, you think Bristol’s unqualified, that’s the point.
The left voted for an unqualified in 2008 also. No executive, diplomatic, military, or private sector experience and now we have the American Idol empty suit POTUS. So the left doesn’t really like Affirmative Action, huh! TFB!

So is there going to be an open thread for when DWTS comes on again?
5000 posts or bust.

First the Midterms wipe-out and now another election down the tubes. It’s hard being a Moonbat (& their TV) these days.
TheBigOldDog on November 18, 2010 at 6:58 AM
Well…I doubt any dead people voted for Bristol Palin. How many elected officials in the Democratic Party can make the same claim?
zoyclem on November 18, 2010 at 7:10 AM
Classic line.
We have a president collecting money from unknown sources, a website collecting millions of dollars illegally…and the press is worried about “Dancing with the Stars”.
These must be the “intellectuals” that Pelosi can attract.
right2bright on November 18, 2010 at 7:16 AM
There’s nothing that infuriates a Democrat more than being outcheated.
Palin fans are more than welcome to my (uncast) votes.
disa on November 18, 2010 at 7:16 AM
Okay, next week, I have never even thought of voting regarding these shows…but next week, I am putting in my one hour and setting up my emails…I say I can do thirty.
Next year the show is going to be called “Dancing with Conservatives” or “Dancing with the Tea Party”…
right2bright on November 18, 2010 at 7:18 AM
It apparently isn’t the best dancer, but the most popular…and Bristol is the most popular.
Sorry Hollywood…
right2bright on November 18, 2010 at 7:22 AM
Whether this is true or not (and who can say for sure), what the hell does this have to do with AP thinking that all this interest in Dancing with the Stars is “depressing”?
BTW, the Boss Emeritus suggested that Republicans have a beer summit to stop the internecine warfare this morning on fox n friends. In? Or are you going to spend the next 2 years making irrelevant swipes at Romney (or any other potential candidate who isn’t named “Palin”)? Cogent criticism is one thing, but you’re just doubling down on stupid.

“The Biggest Loser.”
“Dancing with the Czars.”
“The Amazing Racist.”
justltl on November 18, 2010 at 7:51 AM
“American Piehole.”
justltl on November 18, 2010 at 7:53 AM
People are so stupid. There isn’t an online or phone poll, survey, contest, or vote system that you can’t utilize more than once. Having more than one Email address and phone number makes it simple.
