Palin: You know, a little media vetting in 2008 would have gone a long way…

posted at 2:55 pm on November 16, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

With Barack Obama getting a rebuff on the world stage, losing a midterm election, and presiding over a floundering economy almost two years after implementing his stimulus policies, it may occur to some people now that electing a man with no executive, military, diplomatic, or private-sector experience at all might have been a teensy little mistake. How did the media let that slide? (Oh, come on, you know I know the answer!)  Sarah Palin chatted with KWHL’s Bob and Mark Show in Anchorage today to discuss the re-release of John Ziegler’s documentary How Obama Got Elected and her own travelogue series, and underscored how important its lessons are for participatory democracy to work properly and elect effective representation.  She tells Bob and Mark that the hagiographic coverage of Obama in 2007-8 is now “coming home to roost”:

We know that Obama wasn’t vetted through the campaign, and now, you know, some things are coming home to roost, if you will, which is inexperience, his associations, and that ultimately harms our republic when a candidate isn’t — isn’t vetted by the media, that cornerstone of our democracy. So, you’re right, it’s not about me and whether you like my politics or not. You can push all that aside, and just pay attention to what that message is in this documentary, and that is that things have got to change for the better in the state of journalism. Otherwise, you know, it could be part of a demise of our democracy if that cornerstone erodes.

Fourteen months ago, I warned that the emerging theme of the Obama administration was incompetence.  That was entirely avoidable; had the media committed just half of the resources it committed to Wasilla for a VP candidate to the man at the top of the opposing ticket, perhaps voters might have thought twice about putting an untested legislative backbencher into the toughest executive position in the world.

Update: I hadn’t noticed before 9 pm tonight that the end of the audio got cut off. I reloaded it in a new YouTube, but it seems to be YouTube that’s cutting it off for some reason. I’ve Eyeblasted it instead.

Yes, and the media is the Royal Palace Guard that is tasked with keeping her at bay. The people are going to have to rise up and tear down the gates the media controls.

This Presidency is not going to end well, neither for Obama, nor for his lapdog media.

All depends on which media outlets you follow. The research has been done, the data and its logical interpretation are still missing in the MSM.

In the MSM, he is still a “professor”, and his affiliations with ACORN, Ayers, etc are still minimized as casual contacts. No, the results of “vetting” are still obscured and those who speak the truth are denounced as racists. The media is still filled with dems who stand by their narrative and make excuses.

they should put it on POV I would pay to see that.

But I have to love the people who in the face of a daily message of “Palin was/is right” still want to call her divisive, polarizing, or stupid.

It’s like they can not seperate the diconnect and understand how they were lied too for the last 2 years. It is my belief that at some point the people will understand how the media lied and led them by the nose over the last 2 years and a cascade event will occur. I’m not sure I want to be around a media station when that event happens.

What is your evidence that Americans are going to look at Sarah Palin, recoil, and decide they’d rather have four more years of Mr. Hard-Left “I Won” Narcissist, with his ObamaCare burdens on business, and his incompetence at foreign AND domestic policy, and his constant lavish vacationing on our dime, and the economy continuing to NOT recover on his watch?

Aitch748 on November 16, 2010 at 4:15 PM

Obama is doing exactly what he was installed to do. He was trying to implement the Cloward / Piven strategy as quickly as possible. I think he and his puppetmaster Soros thought they had more time and completely underestimated Americans. Obama is a poser who is happy to go along with what his overlord wants. He was abandoned by his parents and raised by grandparents who left him alone enough for him to be seduced by that guy Frank Davis in HI. He is not super smart or intellectual, he’s just an opportunist who got the opportunity of a lifetime. He’s not alone, Soros owns so many democrats and enough of the MSM to have pulled off Obamas election.

John the Libertarian on November 16, 2010 at 4:24 PM

President-in-exile, indeed. There is much about the office of the president that has to do with projecting American values such as those enumerated in the founding documents not only at home, but abroad too. Obama does not share those values, never has, never will.

Palin is a dyed-in-the-wool American. Her story is our story. We didn’t go to Ivy League colleges and didn’t go to work on Wall Street. We take our own trash to the dump, buy our own groceries, and swap out the alternator on our Chevy pickup when it craps out. We sing the Star Spangled Banner badly at football games. You know what I mean, we have dirt under our fingernails and grease on our pants.

That’s who Sarah Palin is.

And she has been vetted better than any other politician in American History.

We know her from the top of her head to the inside of her uterus – literally.

As more people get to know the real Obama, they will also get to know the real Sarah. And that person seems to me to be a woman of boundless character and a spine of steel.

The only time you’ll see a President Palin bow is when she thinks it will improve her leverage as she headbuts them.

It’s silly to say Obama wasn’t vetted by the MSM. He simply passed their stinky cheese test with flying colors and they never reported on what they knew. From Brokejaw to Katie to gassy suspenders, they ALL have thick dossier on the commie man-child buried under their office take-out menus and Sarah Palin credit-card readouts. None of them has the testes to be the first one to do the WHO IS OBAMA, REALLY? expose.

Western_Civ on November 16, 2010 at 4:34 PM

Obama’s gonna resign before his time is up. Or something. That’s the position of my dear mother, a die hard Democrat. Me, I think Obama is going to hang in there and try to do as much damage as he can sign his name to. Then, once his presidency is over, we’ll discover the following: he is not an American; he went to Occidental as a foreign student; he went to Pakistan on an Indonesian passport; he’s in the pay of Soros and the Iranians. Whatever else other stuff you want to add to that, feel free.

…had the media committed just half of the resources it committed to Wasilla for a VP candidate to the man at the top of the opposing ticket…

But they did! Even more resources, that’s what the Journ0list was all about. Everyone knows it takes far more effort to lie effectively than it does to tell the truth. The difference is that the MSM has a vast army of fellow travelers who are ready, willing, and able to advance the narrative, not the truth. The vetting of Sarah Palin was merely part of the (successful) narrative the MSM created about the 2008 election.

OT but pay attention. This email came from my PA representative, Tim Murphy re Pelosi’s plans for the “lame duck” session. Get on the phones to your reps if you have strong convictions about any of these.

Outgoing Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has called Congress back to Washington, DC this week for a “lame-duck” session to vote on legislation not yet addressed in the 111th Congress.

Unfortunately, legislative language for a number of these proposals to be voted on has yet to be released so the exact details are not available. But in an effort to keep you updated — and solicit feedback — I would appreciate hearing your thoughts as the details are being finalized. Again, specific information on all the bills to be considered is not yet available, but I hope to hear back from you on what Congress could potentially be voting on this week.

Proposed legislation to be considered this week include:

S. 3827, the DREAM Act. This bill will create a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants who entered the US before the age of 16, have lived in the country for at least five years, and attend college or serve in the US military. Comment

H.R. 5987, the Seniors Protection Act of 2010. This bill provides a $250 payment to all Social Security recipients, who will not receive a cost of living increase in 2011. Comment

S. 3307, the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act. This is a reauthorization of the Child Nutrition Act, which allocates funding to schools for the National School Lunch Program and the National School Breakfast Program, providing breakfast and lunch for children from low-income families. Comment

S. 3454, Fiscal 2011 Defense Authorization. Included in this measure is a provision that will end the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. Comment

H.R. ____ (this legislation has yet to be finalized and assigned a bill number), a measure to provide a 13-week extension of a 2008, federally-funded emergency unemployment insurance program, currently set to expire on November 30th, 2010. Comment

H.R. ____ (this legislation has yet to be finalized and assigned a bill number), an extension of current tax rates that were set in 2001 and 2003 that are set to expire at the end of the year. Comment

H.R. ____ (this legislation has yet to be finalized and assigned a bill number), a spending bill that encompasses all funding for the Executive Branch. Congress may also consider a Continuing Resolution, which would continue spending levels at the current rate until the date authorized by the resolution. Comment

H.R. ____ (this legislation has yet to be finalized and assigned a bill number), a short-term extension of current reimbursements for doctors who treat Medicare patients because doctors will see a 23% cut in payments beginning on November 30th. Comment

Click here to let me know your opinion and analysis of any or all of the potential “lame-duck” votes. Thank you for taking the time to respond back and as always, if my office can ever be of service to you please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
Tim Murphy

clnurnberg on November 16, 2010 at 4:07 PM

It is your phrase “logical interpretations” that becomes the issue. Vetting isn’t assigning the “correct” logical interpretaions to the data. Vetting is uncovering previously undisclosed/undiscovered facts about someone. Reaching the logical intepretations and/or putting the “proper” emphasis on those facts isn’t vetting.

To work as a insufficient vetting argument, you need to be able to point to information not available to the public at the time of the election. If your contention is that even today not enough vetting has occurred, then you need to point to those areas that still need to be researched.

Otherwise it isn’t a “vetting argument” it is just a “liberal media bias” argument. In other words if media didn’t properly vet, new information should be available that was not available at time of election. However, it your argument is that the information was known but down played by media, that isn’t a improper vetting argument.

As for Obama’s professor status. In law school and universities, very few “professors” are actually “full professor”. At the universities i’ve been affiliated with, “full professor” denotes a professor who has attained tenure. Most “professors” are assistant professor, or adjunct professor, or lecturer. However, you still have to call them “Professor” and that is how you, the school, or anyone would refer to them.

3) What his church stood for.
4) his early life in indonesia
5) his screwed up family life as a child.

Perhaps vetting Obama would have been wise, but what would be saying now about a McCain Presidency and the vicious hits he would be taking (as opposed to the love taps given to Obama) from socialist media central? What would we be saying about McCain’s undermining of conservative positions and would we have retaken the House with McCain in the Oval Office? Somehow I doubt it. I think McCain would have ruined what was left of the republican brand and we would have had a real civil war in the republican party this cycle, not the faux one made up by the media.

You make the mistake here in thinking that Establishment Media was not doing its job when they slandered Palin and coddled Obama. They did EXACTLY the job they set out do! They have become part of the Democrat-Left establishment and use their media power to support their party candidates and causes. Furthermore, in the 2008 the Media also say that their “mission” was to help secure the historic election of the first Black president, thus overturning American’s racist past. If conservatives would view the Establishment media as the propaganda arm of the Democrat-Left, they could save themselves a lot of heartache about “media bias” and the media “not doing its job.”

EasyEight on November 16, 2010 at 5:05 PM

A lecturer is not a professor and is usually called Mr or Ms so-and-so, especially by the colleagues who ARE professors. I have seen no evidence to suggest that the press made any distinction even when it was warranted.

And how about that tape the LATimes has of O and his Pali friends, the one they refused to air? They let him “dump” anti-Israel associates and pretend he was startled and dismayed by their statements. No questions were asked, even when they reappeared as advisors.

And where exactly did you read about or hear about Obama’s deep connections with ACORN or his affiliation with Ayers? The press allowed Obama to say their kids went to the same school, or let Axelrod say that. That would suggest that Obama’s kids and Ayers were about the same age. Ayers kids were adults. So the information in that case was hidden, deliberately so. Same for his ACORN ties. Anita Moncrief’s information was considered a “game changer” and was buried by the NYT, no?

The vetting was done and buried.

clnurnberg on November 16, 2010 at 5:05 PM

I don’t know what Palin’s talking about…the media did plenty of vetting. We know about the rape kits Palin didn’t make women buy, the books Palin didn’t end up banning, the affair Palin didn’t actually have, her kids weren’t actually named from witches on tv, Track didn’t actually join the National Guard because he was a drug addict, Palin was never a Pat Buchanan supporter, Palin didn’t actually practice witchcraft with a visiting pastor from her church, Palin did not slash funding to unwed mothers, and her brother was never apparently in jail.

The media did a pretty good job vetting….after the election, which is when we found out most of this stuff wasn’t true.

ramrants on November 16, 2010 at 3:46 PM

Excellent!

I’ll submit Sarah Palin is THE most vetted political figure in modern political history. At this point there is little we do not know about her.

What’s left to ask, her brand of shampoo?

By constantly attacking her, and spreading lies, only to be debunked 9 ways to Sunday, the corrupt media has actually become Sarah Palin’s greatest asset. They’ve made her bullet proof.

They’ve also destroyed their own credibility.

Look at election night. Fox News a CABLE channel had more viewers than the networks did. That’s pretty historic.

A lot of eyes have been opened.

The tape at the PLO event that the LAT has, his connections with Rezko could have been studied more. the point is that many stories were not covered and those that were were down in such a featherlight way that we got no information about it and most of those started with: “the new GOP attack on Obama” meaning they should not be taken as fact but as a partisan attack…..

A lecturer is not a professor and is usually called Mr or Ms so-and-so, especially by the colleagues who ARE professors.

By the strict definition, anyone who teaches in a college level setting can be called “Professor” by his/her students. However, as a matter of customary protocol, only those who are tenure track or tenured are referred to this way. Lecturers and instructors (or anyone, for that matter) who have earned PhDs are correctly referred to as “Doctor” so and so, not Mr or Ms.

Mark Levin, Thomas Sowell, and Walter Williams all hold doctorates, and should be called by their correct title. Of course, Jon Stewart even calls the POTUS “Dude,” so I guess proper titles mean little.

nice smear. So wanting to know what his grades are is birther? wanting him to release his BC automatically makes you a birther? Personally i don’t think he is not a US citizen. what I find offensive is his and the media’s belief that he does not have to prove to the citizens he is what he says he is. McCain had to release his because of his military birth.

and nice way to ignore the rest of the points. Like his possible homosexual past, him being raised by a tranny, his ability to be all things to all people because the media did not keep him honest and demand he name one policy and stick too it.

And that is not even beginning to mention all the sotries the media buried like his energy policy which would skyrocket energy prices.

you inability to be honest and admit the media failed shows you as a partisan hack and not worth the time of day.

Why ISN’T it a fair question?

There are plenty of concerns in this area. And not just about his birth. (frankly, it’s Obama’s people who keep this stirred up as a decoy)

Why isn’t someone looking at the fact Obama and Meeshell have used dozens of different social security numbers between them? That’s an absolute crime. And there is plenty of evidence of it.

What about his trip to Paaaakeestan when he was younger?

There are a million and one things that need to be looked into.

Do you think it’s OK that a group of morons are still out there pushing the ridiculous lie that Trig Palin is actually Sarah’s grandson and Bristol’s son? (something that is physically impossible)

At this point I think the vetting Sarah Palin got should be the standard for all. If for no other reason, it gives you a chance to see what that person is made of. 99% of the population, including politicians, would have collapsed under the sort of daily scrutiny Palin has been under. Name me one who could have stood it, let alone thrive like she has?

The media were not Obama’s students. Few lawyers are called “doctor” because of their JDs, sorry. And universities make the distinction, look at their websites. He was not even an assistant prof, he was a lecturer. His lack of status was obscured. If he had and R after his name the media would have made that point and rubbed it in, and you know it. It’s being intellectually dishonest to say the contrary. They would have sifted the credentials of a lecturer named Palin and pointed out that she was not a professor, was not on a tenure track and that the offer of such a position was never made.

You indicate that Obama has not released his birth certificate. I apologize if I jumped to the conclusion that you are birther based on that statement. Perhaps you are just unaware of the copy of his birth certificate to journalists and it was published on the internet. See Copy at factcheck.com or Politifact.com . However if your response to these websites includes any of following I stand by my Birther characterization: a)initials COLB; b) Vatel’s definition of natural born citizen; or c) forgery.

As for Obama’s “possible homosexual past” I encourage you to come forward with all the proof you have. There has been no further evidence since the unfounded and discredited allegations made prior to the election. If you have something new, please share.

Obama’s tranny nanny is the only piece of real new information that was not previously available. I don’t know if people really care, but obviously the media failed in their vetting duty for not uncovering a transvestite babysitter that Obama’s family employed when he was 6 years old. /sarc

The rest of your arguments aren’t imcomplete vetting they are instead liberal media arguments.

You know, I always thought I would make a good President. P.BO gave me an appreciation for what his predecessor’s had that I don’t.

Count to 10 on November 16, 2010 at 6:04 PM

Obama is the epitome of arrogant incompetence but I’m not sure McCain would have been any better on the economy. The financial crisis was caused by the federal government, through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, guaranteeing sub-prime mortgages. This was the inevitable result of government interference in the banking industry as a result of Carter & Clinton’s CRA. McCain was handed The Election Issue on a silver plater and didn’t know what to do about it.

A lot of business people who should have known better have bought into the idea that the government creates jobs. It doesn’t at least not efficiently. All it can do is create the conditions to let the marketplace work. I’m not convinced McCain would not also have passed a ruinous “stimulus” package. One can safely say however that McCain would have not been the extreme embarrassment Obama has been on foreign policy nor would he have shoved National Health Care down the throats of the public.

Basilsbest on November 16, 2010 at 6:06 PM

Why isn’t someone looking at the fact Obama and Meeshell have used dozens of different social security numbers between them? That’s an absolute crime. And there is plenty of evidence of it.

What about his trip to Paaaakeestan when he was younger?

gary4205 on November 16, 2010 at 5:50 PM

First, the “plenty of evidence” of the dozens of different social security numbers is only in the mixed up mind of the Birther Queen Orly Taitz. Just because an allegation is made in a court filing does not make it true. Has there been any evidence of these dozens of SS numbers provided other than in Orly Taitz’ court filings?

Pakistan trip: Obama hasn’t hidden the trip. He even included it in his autobiography. If you are referring to the “illegality” of travel to Pakistan at the time, you are misinformed. It wasn’t illegal to travel to Pakistan at any time in the 70′s or 80′s. Ivna Giauque Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. State Department stated “According to our Pakistan experts, there was no travel ban to Pakistan in 1981.” See Politifact.com article

New_Jersey_Buckeye on November 16, 2010 at 5:57 PM

hmmm I like how you ignore his grades not being released.

As for the birther thing. It was a politcal calculation by Obama not to release his records to paint his opponents has fringe and racists. i understand what he did, why he did it and the polical capaital he got out of it. what you seem to fail to understand is it is the job of the media to not allow candidates to do such things. the entire birther issue could have been wrapped up in about 2 days of the media choice to cover and research it. Instead they allowed the Obama camapign to frame the debate to give him a politcal talkign point. It was not a coincidence that at the same time as the BC issue became center stage the dems attacked McCain’s birth.

I am still waiting for the demands from the media to release his grades from school, his admission records, his thesis. there was no attempt to research his previous activity in politcal circles, no hint of his connections in MSM to the socialist party.

Again the birther issue was used my Obama so he was not vetted. To paint those concerned with his past to appear racist xenophopes, it gave the media a reason not to vett him. Even your sorry attempt here to distract from the vetting process by trying to tie it inot a birther issue is evidence to that.

As far as his bisexual nature. There has been many charges leveled like Penn being in the WH. Eyewitnesses seeing him and Rahm in boyztown, as well as his mannerisms etc. Have not you in the left always said it is not the weight of the evidence but the seriouness of the charge that requires you on the left to research issues that come to light.

and i am still waiting for the smartest man alive to release his college grades.

The financial crisis was caused by the federal government
Basilsbest on November 16, 2010 at 6:06 PM

It was caused by the gov but not the way you explained. The cause of the financial crisis was $4.00/gal gas. That data point exposed the problems in the home industry. If not for $4.00/gal gas most foreclosures would not have happened at the same time like it did.

“Penn being in the WH” is a charge? I don’t even know what this means. You will have to explain more to me. Is it having too many University of Pennsylvania (Penn) graduates in the White House? Is it referring to Kal Penn (Kalpen Modi) of TV show House? (Proud Product of Freehold Township High School (NJ). Either way I don’t know if that proves or even insinuates homosexuality/ bisexuality.
Being seen in gay neighberhood is proof of homosexuality? Somebody tell my wife that. I lived for years in West Village of NYC. I had no idea that even passing through gay areas made you bisexual. Imagine how gay I am from living in a gay neighberhood. Should I start watching Glee? /sarc
“Gay manerisims”? What are the gay manerisms of President Obama? Please provide any examples.

No i said the fact thatthe media did not vett his BC was a concern. You took that point and started yelling birther. And totally blew off all other points but the birther angle. Much like the MSM did during the election. Using the same tactics that the MSM used to not vett him is not a good way to go to win a debate.

As for the homoseuxal angle try reading Hillbuzz they have good points and evidence that no one is addressing. And it wa smore than being “seen” in those neighborhoods.

And i see once again you would rather concnetrate on the birther angle, the homsexual angle than the fact the smartes tman in the world hads never released his grades or his addmission records. and I also see you would rather not talk about the injury to Obama’s head.

Gay manerisims”? What are the gay manerisms of President Obama? Please provide any examples.

The press has been almost completely bastardized and made useless.

Its charter, as alluded to in our Constitution, was to measure and report, so that the citizenry could make informed decisions.

A thermometer would be useless and dysfunctional if it reported the temperature its owner wanted instead of the actual temperature. Similarly, the press has become useless and dysfunctional by reporting what its owners wish instead of what actually is.

And to make things worse, we have “Journalism” schools teaching their students to “make a difference”…thus assuring that they will never become competent reporters.

If you haven’t seen Media Malpractice I recommend it you check it out even though you might be a news junkie and have followed and debated with the leftists and lefty organizations against the treatment that Gov. Palin received and the pass that Obama got, and used to his advantage.

It is laid out nicely and gives viewers a systematic breakdown of the collective attacks against Gov. Palin. And the lengths that the media went to in order to cover up all the dirt on Obama. Even when the media was forced to acknowledge some unsavory event in Obama’s life, they did their utmost to color it to Obama’s advantage and to minimize the damage that it would normally cast on a candidate.

There are now so many more options now, besides buying the DVD, to watch it since it will be going VOD. You can also watch it on Netflix.

As we whine about the lack of vetting of OBlahBlah during his 2008 campaign;

The media continues to refuse to expose his out right lies on virtually every major policy initiative!

They continue to ignore the fact that both friend and foe told the POTUS to piss off on his maginificent, get away from the electoral bloodbath, overseas, “Cousin Eddie” vacation.
They ignore his epic failures at every level and continue their attack on Sarah as lacking gravitas and Cheney as being mean to the “Boy King”!

And not a word from the MSM or the Republican geldings over the printing of 600 billion in greenbacks and rather than the Fed buying their own T Bills from themselves they are running the sale through Goldman Sachs… the Democrats favored brokerage house and the corrupt organ that Paulsen and others high in the fed gravy train came from.

This funneling of taxpayer funds through Godlman Sachs to buy their own Treasury Certs and thus inflate our dollars and cause our savings to be worth less should be headlines of the year…..Not a peep from anyone but the Lovely and gracious;

I want to know the following:

1) What classes did Obama take and what grades did he get in law school?
2) What passport did he use to travel to Pakistan? Was it an Indonesian passport? If so, how did he get an Indonesian passport?
3) How did he get into Columbia from Occidental?
4) What classes did he take and what grades did he get at Occidental and Columbia?
5) What is Obama’s legal name? Was he ever legally adopted? When did he change his name back?

None of this can be dismissed as “birther crap” as it has no relation to where he was born. Axelrod was very clever in creating the “birther” bogeyman and labeling all inquiries about Obama’s background as such. New Jersey needs to go back to HuffPo.

What I don’t understand is why some (on the Right, in the Middle, on the Left) have to segregate one issue from another.

Vetting someone is vetting someone. What SHOULD be examined, investigated and explored through to some qualifying conclusion (or dismissal) is ALL aspects of a person’s life.

That INCLUDES his lack of Constitutional qualification for the Presidency (not natural born as a citizen).

That INCLUDES his academic records, his medical records, his employment history (including co-workers’ stories about that), his Passport records, his adoption records…and more.

I can’t stand this segregation of this so=called “birther” aspect to who Obama is or may be or could be. The vetting of this guy was not done but obviously, enough Democrats and Democrat-donors know who he is and managed to get the guy elevated by likely-than-not deceit of the public into the White House.
