Palin’s new show scores highest ratings of any TLC launch
posted at 5:44 pm on November 15, 2010 by Allahpundit
If you’re surprised, you didn’t pay enough attention to her book sales. Being “polarizing,” to borrow the media’s favorite adjective for her, may be problematic for a politician but it’s a fantastic asset for political entertainment. How many liberals tune into Rush each day for the cathartic fun of beating their little fists against the desk in frustration? Same with Sarahcuda, I think — she’s got her very devoted base, some swath of curiosity-seekers tuning in to see what the fuss is about after all the pre- and post-midterm buzz, and of course her equally devoted liberal anti-base, who want to tune in to make fun of their living room furniture or Willow’s hair or whatever the hell it is the left is obsessing about today. In fact, the show’s website actually promoted the idea of lefty/righty viewing parties organized around the concept “We Can All Agree to Watch.” Because, if you’re a Sarah Palin fan, what could be more fun than sitting on the couch watching next to some Trig Truther who’s hunting for subtle clues as to whether she really knows how to fish and shoot?
TLC’s “SARAH PALIN’S ALASKA” DELIVERS 4.96M TOTAL VIEWERS
The premiere of TLC’s Sarah Palin’s Alaska (Sun, Nov 14, 9-10 p.m. ET/PT) garnered a 3.5 HH rating and delivered 4.96M P2+, 1.8M P25-54, 1.1M W25-54, 1.6M P18-49, 4.7M P18+ and 3.9M P35+, according to Nielsen fast nationals.
Sarah Palin’s Alaska is the #1 program launch in TLC history among HH and P2+ delivery, besting the What Not to Wear series launch in 2003, and posting triple digit rating and delivery gains vs. the prior six week prime average, and the 4Q10 to-date prime average.
It’s the most highly rated debut in TLC history but not the most highly rated episode of any show. That was the Jon & Kate separation episode, which, I must confess, was fantastic television. Palinistas are celebrating the news of the big launch, but here’s what I’m wondering: If the ratings stay high for the rest of the season, aren’t they going to end up throwing a cargo-hold of money at her to do another season? Which … would put a crimp in the Sarah 2012 plans, no? It’s long been rumored that Huckabee might sit out the next election in favor of sticking with his show and making some money, and needless to say, she can demand a lot more pay-wise than he can. Why not spend a few years making eight figures and then go for the gold in 2016 when she won’t have to face an incumbent?
Between this and having coined the new word of the year, I’d say she’s officially having a big day. Exit question: Is Sarahcuda really only at 15 percent in Alaska among the field of GOP presidential contenders? C’mon.

Let’s see, her show is a ratings winner, her word refudiate becomes the word of the year, her daughter is captivating dancing viewers, her candidate endorsements were a smashing success, the left still hates her
I’d say she is having a very good year.

Dont get me wrong, I like the Saracuda, but lets hope TLC does throw a ton of money her way and that second season puts a hold on running in 2012.

It would get pretty boring if they only served one flavor of ice cream here, all the time. The ratings for HA would indicate that Michelle put together a pretty good menu.
Some of us tend to like varied offerings and find them interesting.
If one doesn’t like what is being served there are always alternative venues.

i don’t think he has made up his mind if he is going to run. the new PPP polls show its a tight race with Gov Palin and him tied. He knows he can’t match her charisma and fund raising ability. He knows he can’t draw the crowds or get the media attention. He may be thinking about stepping aside and allowing antoher establishment guy to run against Palin. Maybe Jeb or christie.
I know the narrative is he is going to run but there has been a big effort to stop Palin from running. Mitt might feel if Gov Palin runs he will not. Only thing that makes sense at this point.

Sarah’s not about the money, no matter what AP thinks.

hotair is about the only place I have seen dare their readership to leave on a daily basis. It’s like the GOP of 2005 daring the voters to vote for the dems and pelosi.

Or a reality show about what it’s like to be Sarah Palin campaigning for the Presidency in 2012. That would be finger-licking attractive TV for everybody.
I wonder what kind of ratings it would get?

Everyone needs to go to Huffpo, and DU once a day to really understand the alternatives.
I will point out what I think are inconsistencies and obvious allegiances. That being said, AP and Ed 100% kool-aid drinkers, and will at times display the hypocrisy of their champions. I have been banned from Huffpo and DU for my disagreements there. I have not been banned here, even after the “cat incident”.

I think she has found her calling doing what she is doing, she has been hugely effective in the midterms, she has managed to shape policy and forced the Pres to respond to her facebook page. All outside the strictures of public office. She was virtually forced out of the governorship of Alaska from a constant barrage of nonsensical ethics complaints, now take that to a national level. So thats why I say, she is much better and far more effective influencing America and shaping policy from TLC facebook and her Foxnews appearances.

she has only been able to do that because of the threat/hope she is running. The day she doesn’t run is the day she loses a lot of power. She will still retain a large block of people/ supporters but her politcal power to set an agenda would be impacted, as well as her media reach.

Fair enough. I was hesitant to count either LBJ or Ford, to be honest, though I believe Truman serving almost a full term makes “reelection” a valid description.
But, excluding Truman and LBJ, the count is still 5-3-3 (or 5-2-4) if you discount Ford as well for reelected/ not reelected/ n/a.
malclave on November 15, 2010 at 8:53 PM
Ergo, there’s no reason she can’t take these talents and skills, plus her experience, talent and skills in executive office that she honed as Governor (Chairman of AK Oil and Gas, mayor), successfully to the White House.

A question (not related to Sarah but) does the guy who said “don’t touch my junk” know the ‘don’t taze me bro’ guy? They should hang out together – the conversation would be great!

out of the 11 last POTUS only 4 served out their full 8 years. You can not just factor in elections. scandals, deaths etc must be factored in.
It is 4 out of 11 chance of actually winning and serving another 4 years for Obama

nice way to put it. I think Mitt’s problem is he has been “groomed” so long he longer has a mind of his own and can not make any decisions by himself. It is all about how it “looks” about poll tested responses, what gives him the most politcal points. his indecisions would be a huge negativ ein the oval office. In the office you must go with your gut. Sadly Mitt appears to have lost his “gut” along the way of being “groomed”
It’s not that I don’t trust the decisions he would make in the oval office, It’s that I don’t think he will be able to make any and if he does it will be too late to matter.
If Mitt was POTUS on 9/12 would he have been able to decide what to do, how to respond, who if anyone to attack? Of would he have waited until 9/11/2002 to make a response…

There was one person in your exchange who showed some restraint and some class and is wasn’t you.
Be nice to the host; it’s common courtesy. If you disagree with him, then fine, but don’t be an asshole right out of the starting gate.

I see your point, but if serving a full 8 years is the criteria, then Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, and Ford need to be excluded from the list, since none of them could constitutionally serve 2 full 4-year terms.
So that’s 4/7, or 4/8 if you leave Kennedy in the list.

you can serve a total of 10 years. 2 from a previous term and 2 on your own. LBJ could have got one more also. Truman I think was grandfathered out of the 22nd amendment sinc eit passed while he was in office.

great interview of Palin on FBN tonight. she was on fire.
unseen on November 15, 2010 at 10:00 PM
Just looked up dates, and you’re right and I’m wrong (with one exception).
- Truman was exempt from the Constitutional restriction. For some reason, I was confused and thought it was actually added during FDR’s administration… no excuse here.
- Johnson only served 14 months of Kennedy’s term, and actually ran in 1968. Also no excuse, it’s not like I don’t know when JFK was killed.
- Ford served more than 2 years of Nixon’s second term (inaugurated in August 1974), so could only have been elected once in his own right.
So 4/9, or 4/10 if you include Kennedy.

I am at the point where I don’t care if she ever runs for political office as long as she keeps driving libtards crazy and voicing her views on the huge stage she has been given.
cntrlfrk on November 16, 2010 at 5:32 AM
“Sarah Palin’s Alaska” by the numbers:
* 4.96 million: number of viewers of debut episode.
* 101.3 million: number of libs who hated the show.
* 757.6 million: number of times lib bloggers and critics tritely employed the phrase “You betcha!” somewhere in the body of their their reviews and hackneyed opinion articles about the show to mock both Palin and her audience of 4.96 million.
FlameWarrior on November 16, 2010 at 8:21 AM
Considering that MSNBC’s number one show has a hard time drawing 600K viewers, I’d say she has a slam dunk.
stvnscott on November 16, 2010 at 8:58 AM
I caught the rerun last night. I was a little skeptical of the idea when it was first announced, but I really enjoyed the show and found it to be very well done once I saw it executed. It’s neat to get to “meet” people she talks about in her book like her father and other family members. I’m sure I’ll be tuning in again to see more of the episodes.
In other news, I’ll have to remember to click over to some of the libtard blogs to watch heads asploding.
stvnscott on November 16, 2010 at 9:01 AM
My wife is reality show crazy and had it on so I caught some of it and thought it was pretty dopey. My guess is that half of those tuning in were Media Matters types looking for ammo against her and another quarter were couch potatoes hoping to catch a train wreck.
The upside is anything she does is a splinter in the eye of moonbats, so I hope it becomes a huge success and ends up going head to head with the VIEW ans smoking hem in the ratings but for no other reason than to watch the heads of every hairy legged, fat @ssed, feminazi in NY explode.

My understanding is that “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” was third in its time slot Sunday night (behind Sunday Night Football and Desperate Housewives). Not bad considering many, like me, had no idea what channel number TLC was.

And she can’t be equally effective in this capacity from the Oval Office because?
NoLeftTurn on November 16, 2010 at 1:50 PM
Not sure she was so effective in the midterms:
She endorsed Kelly Ayotte in NH, who won big.
She endorsed Marco Rubio in FL, who won big.
She endorsed Rand Paul in KY, who won big.
She endorsed Nikki Haley in the SC Governor’s race, who narrowly won in conservative SC, where Jim DeMint won big.
She endorsed Ken Buck in CO, who won the primary, lost the general.
She endorsed Sharron Angle in NV, who won the primary, lost the general.
She endorsed Christine O’Donnell in DE, who won the primary, lost the general.
She endorsed Joe Miller in her home state of AK, who won the primary, lost the general.
4 wins and 4 losses among statewide candidates she endorsed is at best a mixed record.
Sarah Palin might have some influence ginning up enthusiasm among conservative voters, and adding her ideas to the political mix, but can she win Independent voters? Maybe she will be better at advocating certain policies, and letting other candidates run on them.
Steve Z on November 16, 2010 at 2:18 PM
I say season 2 may happen on the campaign trail. Would be epic. Who knows? She said unconventional.
Also a note on her endorsements. She gives the candidate a timely boost in attention, and money and the candidate has to do the follow through. She also picked many long shots others would not take the risk on. These candidates need this seasoning for the real gig. It also gives the voter more of a choice in the primaries.
