Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on November 9, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

A year ago, Barack Obama responded to the Fort Hood shooting by giving shout-outs to his friends before actually getting to the topic in his speech addressing the attack that killed 14 people.  Yesterday, Obama gave a shout-out to remember the victims of the Mumbai massacre two years ago while touring India, but the administration couldn’t spare a word for our own soldiers killed by then-Major Nidal Hasan:

President Obama’s remarks a year ago were odd enough leading with an unpresidential and out of touch “shout out,” but for the White House to completely ignore the Ft. Hood anniversary is disturbing.

Obama, though he likes to remind himself that he is the commander-in-chief, has always demonstrated his disdain for our troops and seemingly cannot help it. Ignoring Ft. Hood is just another example. …

There were no statements or Tweets from the White House or Robert Gibbs regarding Ft. Hood. However, Obama did mention, in his statements upon arrival in India, the Mumbai massacre:

President Obama opened his 10-day Asia trip on a somber note Saturday, memorializing the victims of the devastating terror attacks that tore through Mumbai two years ago. “We’ll never forget,” he said.

Well, we’ll apparently forget occasionally.

Got an  Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the  Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

This is beyond disgusting but par for the course for our stupid CIC. Military members are nothing but props for his photo ops. That’s it.

We attended a retirement party for a man who dedicated 24 years of his life to this country. He requested that George W Bush sign his retirement papers instead of Obama. That to me speaks volumes as to how the military views their leader. He’s not the first, others have requested the same.

It’s part of Obama’s schtick to point at someone in the crowd and smile wide as he walks up to or away from a podium. A kind of corollary to his “shout outs”. As much a part of him as his faux hugs, deliberate but loose walk, or his catch phrases like “let me be clear”. He’s so ripe for a brutal parody on Sat Nite Live, but they would never do it. It would be blasphemy. Do not slander the One. The punishment is to be banished to the netherworld as a racist.

Paul-Cincy on November 9, 2010 at 8:23 AM

Odamna: “What?? They want a shout out to the Ft Hood dudes? Has that been a year already? Okay, Allah akbar, dudes. Allah akbar. How’s that Gibbsie? That sound okay?”

Gosh, how I despise this POS.

B.O. was asked by a student yesterday to comment on his thoughts on “jihad” and instead of condemning jihad, he just did a complete 360 around the question and babbled some nonsense on how there are different meanings to the word.

This guy is totally clueless to the fact that there are extremists out there who want to kill us and who consider such actions part of a holy war! He just does not get it!

pilamaye on November 9, 2010 at 8:35 AM

This POS is lower than pond-scum.

OmahaConservative on November 9, 2010 at 8:37 AM

What does it say when the man can’t even explain what a jihad is? Hey, let’s blunt the reality of extremist who proudly hollers Allah Akbar as he murders 13 of our finest and ignore their deaths as an assault of lone lunatic. The fact that Obama is indifferent or contains no sensitivity to this travesty is shameful. But, are we really surprised?

Despicable. Contemptible.

He doesn’t want to acknowledge that there was a terrorist attack on US soil during his watch, so he pretends it never happened. There are words to describe that, but I’d have to wash my mouth out with soap.

Shy Guy on November 9, 2010 at 8:42 AM

I thought I was disgusted before I went and read the piece at Gates of Vienna.

The President of the United States answered a student’s question with Islamist propaganda straight from the Muslim Brotherhood playbook.

It is just f****** mind-boggling.

He MUST KNOW that he is lying about Islam. He CANNOT BE that clueless.

We are in desperate danger as long as this stealth Muslim is in office. Desperate danger.

novaculus on November 9, 2010 at 8:57 AM

I understand not wanting to highlight the murder of Americans by Islamic radicals while speaking in a predominantly Muslim country, but I question the wisdom of actually being in a predominately Muslim country on that anniversary.

I’m pretty sure he has a team of 5th graders create his itineraries.

Dee2008 on November 9, 2010 at 9:02 AM

If a president fails to acknowledge or remember a terrorist attack, did it ever really occur? Is this a method of revisionist history that we are seeing? If someone can change how you see the present, then they can change how you view the past and ultimately, the future. If a terrorist attack against American soldiers fails to be remembered in the present, then it diminishes its impact upon the future. Mr. Obama’s attempt to deny that Ft Hood occurred is an attempt to minimize the hemorrhage that it caused upon his personal image in the future.

Ft Hood was a heinous attack by a MUSLIM (channeling OReilly), upon US soldiers on US federal property that resulted in 14 dead and 30 wounded. The Muslim attacker was a Soldier of Allah in cahoots with Awlaki, a guy who has a date with the end of a hellfire missile or some well placed .556 or .762, a decision that has already been made by the president as well as Yemeni leaders. So, both the past, and the present state that Hassan was a terrorist, and he acted. The President failed to acknowledge the facts on both as a means to influence the future.

Revisionist history is not working any more. The Memory Hole is closed.

It would seem like an easy inclusion to comment that both countries had been victims of terrorist attacks. I realize he would have had to be careful since the Ft. Hood killer hasn’t gone to trial but still something. Why not say something in his Saturday address last week?

If, on 9/12/01, an American had predicted an appeasement-minded, Muslim-apologist like Obama would be elected president in seven years, would we all have thought he or she was out of his/her mind, or would we have just shrugged and said sure, that makes sense?

Cindy Munford on November 9, 2010 at 9:15 AM

I guess that is a good point. But aren’t those Mumbai dudes supposedly on trial too? Acknowledging victims of an attack is free.

ted c on November 9, 2010 at 9:19 AM

Ft Hood was a heinous attack by a MUSLIM (channeling OReilly)….

ted c on November 9, 2010 at 9:07 AM

No need to channel O’Reilly…he wasn’t a Muslim extremist, he was a Muslim who wasn’t indoctrinated by years of unconventional Islamic propaganda. He was a Muslim who had taken and broken an oath to be loyal to and protect the people he murdered.

He was by every definition a ‘moderate Muslim’…his behavior didn’t become ‘extreme’ until he pulled the trigger.

James on November 9, 2010 at 9:21 AM

He totally missed an opportunity to draw a common ground with Indians, which I think is the biggest loss here.

You’d think his Foreign Policy Expert God Joe Biden would have mentioned to Obama that this would be good for drawing commonality between India and the US.

Exactly why Obama wants his own civilian army. They’ll be loyal to him, fight for him, protect him.

He doesn’t see the troops now, as being what he wants them to be…for understandable reasons.

Makes me wonder. Did some of that stimulus go towards creating, and training this private, “civilian”, army?

When his political foes criticize him, then say what a nice guy he is, I shudder. Do they honestly think this jerk is a nice guy? I find myself wishing that he would send Air Force One home, but stay in Indonesia with Michelle, and never come back. Wishful thinking…..sigh……
