Glenn Beck: Remember when Olbermann said that he doesn’t vote lest he appear partial?

posted at 9:01 pm on November 5, 2010 by Allahpundit

I feel guilty about kinda sorta defending Olby earlier, so here’s my bid to atone. One footnote to the previous post: He’s not the only cable news host to drop a little coin on political candidates now and then. Hannity and Huckabee have also done fundraising and/or donated, although as Howard Kurtz notes, Fox News wisely distinguishes between its commentator crew and its journalist crew on that score. But then, that’s the point of Beck’s bit: If you’re going to rant against the other team every night, own it. Please, no more Murrow-esque professions of avoiding the voting booth in the name of objectivity when you’re on the air five hours a week screeching about wingnut fascists and the racist dystopia they’re about to impose on America. A little honesty goes a long way. Click the image to watch.

Maybe Olby doesn’t vote. Maybe he just donates. ???

I think they ought to pull the plug on that entire station because they’re a bunch of f-ing idiots, but that’s just me.

I imagine their rates were as high as they were on election night because people tuned in hoping to catch sight of an exploding head.

Oink on November 5, 2010 at 9:04 PM

Oh no…it gets worse!!

Of COURSE Olberdork is a hypocrite. (Sidebar question. I’ve never heard Beck’s radio show. Is Beck’s sidekick always trying to take over the mic like that?)

Warner Todd Huston on November 5, 2010 at 9:06 PM

he doesn’t vote lest he appear partial

I wish he would vote because having him appear partial is way better than having him appear in totality.

Have you ever seen this guy’s lower half? It’s not pretty, I’m told.

FlameWarrior on November 5, 2010 at 9:06 PM

Fox’s policy that differentiates between commentators and true journalists is the right way to go.

Meanwhile, far-left NBC and its far-left corporate parent General Electric are proof that you can have your head so far up your ass that you need to open your mouth to see where you’re going.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Olby doesn’t vote, but it has nothing to do with being impartial. That’s called lazy.

HAExpert on November 5, 2010 at 9:10 PM

I’ve often debated with my brother Joey_G who is the bigger buffoon Keith Olbermann or Glenn Beck. Sadly we could never come to a definite conclusion. They are both so mind rumblingly arrogant and impossible to watch, it just wasn’t worth the effort. Didn’t watch the clip, I still have a soul.

Tommy_G on November 5, 2010 at 9:12 PM

How did anyone every mistake Olbermann for a journalist?

That’s the real question.

profitsbeard on November 5, 2010 at 9:12 PM

It’s all about ratings. KO’s ratings have been consistently in the toilet, but MeSsNBC doesn’t want to admit that no one watches, so this is their excuse to broom him.

CurtZHP on November 5, 2010 at 9:12 PM

If he doesn’t vote…

… then why is he so pissed off at the outcome of elections?

“Sir, have you no shame? You should resign…!!!”

… Oh, wait!

glad to see Allah come around.

seriously Allah, how could not believe in God after this wonderful news of Olby getting tossed to the curb.

I think Beck’s radio show is great, when I get the chance to listen here and there. Pat and Stu (Beck’s “sidekicks”) usually go back and forth with each other.

Isn’t it the essence of Olby that he won’t own it. He’s a lying hypocrite along with all of his fellow travellers, which include the global warmanists. He wouldn’t be Olby otherwise. Hypocrisy and hubris is his bread and butter. He’s a narcissistic, drama queen who believes the crap he spews…he’s dishes it but can’t take it. That is the left defined. He is what he is…he can’t be any other way. As the left goes, so goes Olby…so his departure at the the hands of his lefty bosses is very sweet…and IRONIC!

Actually, this is the only time I listen anymore. The sidekicks inject relevant facts with humor. Sorry Mr. Beck, but your unending hawking of your products and constant telling me, a Believer,to get on my knees is wearing thin.

Dingbat63 on November 5, 2010 at 9:21 PM

Isn’t Mr. Olberman just comic relief to our side? It’s not like we don’t know he’s full of it. And his side believes him to be ethical regardless of what he does so he’s not hurting anyone. I don’t watch him but I enjoy when he is made fun of so I will miss that.

Yep.
Hey, what ever happened to the mandatory station posting required by the FCC about listerner/viewer comments?

I always thought, ostensibly, that was to hold these types feet to the fire for the privilege of using OUR airwaves.

Of course, I don’t watch enough broadcast tv to be up to snuff on the current state of the debate.
What, there’s no debate?

Pat, Stu, & Glenn together form a complicated ballet of humor, news, & opinion. You should hear Pat’s impersonation of Arlen Specter and the spirit of Michael Jackson. It’s priceless.

The only way a person would think he is impartial is if they had nevercome to America… and did not know english… and never even heard the name Olberman.

MSNBC is not a FCC licensed Broadcast station, they are a cable only station.

And guys, it has been sold to ComCast. The funniest part, is that Phil is going to stick ComCast with the bill for Olby’s contract buyout.

Exit question: What will ComCast do to when they take over? Clean house or double down?

NBC/Universal is a privately owned company. If Olbermann had a problem with this particular clause, he could have refused to sign the contract.

What’s hilarious is that with all the lefties’ boycotts of Glenn Beck, it looks as if Olbermann might be the one going off the air. LOL

ddrintn on November 6, 2010 at 1:42 AM

I’m still of my original opinions, which are two separate arguments.

Fist, to decide this is a problem you must have the following assumptions:
1) MSNBC has Policies and Standards
2) These Policies and Standards apply to Olbermann and other MSNBC commentators.
3a) This is the FIRST violation of these Policies and Standards
or…
3b) This is the most significant Violation of these Policies and Standards

I’m having trouble believing any, much less all of these assumptions.

The second problem I have buying this.

Presume you find out Olbermann is a liberal supporter who will donate to and support liberal candidates openly.

What percentage of the population now has a different opinion of Olbermann than the one they started with? You’re within the margin of error of 0 aren’t you?

Did he lose anyone he had? Really? This is the straw breaking the camel’s back?

I’m not going to miss him, I never watched him, and the vids/quotes I saw indicate I wouldn’t have been a fan… but I still don’t get a real or meaningful reason for the firing.

gekkobear on November 6, 2010 at 2:12 AM

I’ve listened to that clip like 4 times now. It gets a little more awesome each time. :D

Much as I love Glenn though… he rides the edge pretty close himself to be making fun of other people getting pulled off the air.

And I’ve all but given up watching his show. It’s become an exercise in depression. While I can appreciate following a train of thought out to its end conclusion, no matter how absurd… it’s all you can do not to hang yourself by the end of the program. lolol

Murf76 on November 6, 2010 at 8:54 AM

Ratings from 8-11P on election night:

MSNBC CNN Fox
1,945,000 2,423,000 6,957,000

According to my SEC education math, MSNNC had less than ONE-THIRD the ratings of Fox. Gotta be racism straight up!

johnboy on November 6, 2010 at 8:58 AM

The more I think about it, the more I think that this is Comcast cleaning house before they take it over. They may want to follow a more balanced model and actually make money. Plus they don’t want to look like the bad
guy by firing Olby.

jeffn21 on November 6, 2010 at 9:10 AM
