Democrats wonder: Could retaining the most toxic figure in American politics possibly be a bad idea?

Answering that question correctly is roughly as difficult as solving a Scooby Doo mystery, and yet … they’re not going to solve this one, are they? It’s the equivalent of Shaggy, Scoob, and the rest of the crew giving up after a half-hour, piling into the Mystery Machine, and driving off to go smoke a bowl or whatever. Those meddling kids really need to “meddle” a little more this time.

Here’s a secret hint for Democrats trying to find the culprit and crack the case: Check the lady in the Nancy Pelosi mask.

Battle lines are emerging in the House Democratic Caucus over Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) possible bid to stay on as the minority leader…

Outside liberal groups are already organizing support for Pelosi before she makes a decision. Americans United for Change launched an e-mail campaign on Friday encouraging supporters to “send a personal note to Speaker Pelosi about how much you appreciate her leadership,” and to “make sure she knows that we still support her.”…

“Democrats lost because they didn’t fight hard enough for popular progressive reforms in the last two years. The Democratic leader least culpable of doing that is Nancy Pelosi,” the co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Adam Green, said in an interview. “She’s the last person among Democratic Party leaders who should step down.”…

“I don’t think it’s likely that I would support her were she to run for minority leader,” Rep. Jason Altmire (D-Pa.) said Thursday evening on Fox News. “I don’t know who the other candidates are going to be, but if she is one of the candidates, I probably won’t vote that way.”

The good news: The GOP just became a prohibitive favorite to hold the House in 2012. The bad news: …I actually can’t think of any. Supposedly, Pelosi’s talents as a caucus whip are going to keep the Blue Dogs in line, thereby denying the GOP bipartisan cover on its votes next year, but take a listen below to centrist Dem Dan Boren from Oklahoma. He’s not in any real trouble himself next cycle, but he knows that reelecting Pelosi is apt to make the rump Blue Dog caucus even rump-ier after 2012. Ah well. Onward to liberal purity!

I’d have to believe that the lefty think tanks are going to come to the conclusion that ultra hacks like Olbermann and Matthews in the media, Pelosi and Reid in the political spot light, are really baaaaaaad for their future. The country made a huge mistake giving these ultra Liberals power over the masses, but has returned to it’s center right roots. No matter how they spin it, this election was devastating for the left. State by State elections turned the political map bright RED once again, and with redistricting taking place, this was much bigger any normal election cycle.

I’m guessing that Democrats are going to silence these ugly and unpopular heads as quickly as possible. Nancy had her moment in history, and that moment will not be kind to her for decades to come. If the NFL continues to support Olbermann and his types, they will also suffer the consequences. Many long time NFL addicts I know are talking about how the NFL has been politicized and how this is turning them off to the game.

Pelosi kept people in line by simply offering any objectors porkbarrel projects and favors for the district, that tool is now gone leaving her simply an ideological forces. Good luck with that!

Nancy Pelosi is a control freak and if the Democrats vote her in as minority leader they get what they deserve. Marginalized – A Coastal Party. As long as she is the face of the Democrat leadership, she reminds everyone what’s wrong with the Democrat party.

It’s sad for a Party that used to have people like Zell Miller. The RINO brand is very unpopular but the Democrat brand is even worse. These people are so freakin isolated in D.C. they have no clue what’s going on in the rest of the country…Progressive Democrats = Power Mongering, Nancy Pelosi is the poster person for Naked Power Grabbing.
As if the American electorate is ever going to vote them back into power as long as she is hovering around.

Guessing it’s not her predictive power that would impress her caucus, maybe it’s simple reverse Pottery Barnism: You made it, you preserve it.

I hope she’s still the face of the dems in ’12. She’s the biggest face of liberalism, besides the Won’s, that we have to point to. Can’t wait to hear Rush play Ding Dong the Witch is Dead one more time.

I’m not quite sure how you can say this. Heath Shuler plans to run against her for Minority Leader! That tells me at least some of the Blue Dogs are done with her. The ones who voted with her are gone!

ladyingray on November 6, 2010 at 10:37 AM

Oh, this is good. Madame already “helped” in the midterms and she wants to do the same for 2012? Thank God for out-of-touch, elderly narcissists in the dimmycrat party!
By the way: don’t forget, the Blue Dogs were reduced by half…. Madame won’t have much to do if she’s trying to keep a whopping 23 BDs in line with the rest of her useful idiots.

If the public gets the impression that Nancy wants Minority simply to stymie any changes and improvements to the health care bill, will this go over well? I think not. If her(and their) mission on this front is simply to preserve and protect legislation that most of the public abhors this will not be seen as a coup on the Democratic side, the opposite in fact. This is the risk that the Dem side of the House will run if they elect her on this premise. Are they prepared to risk 2012 on this ‘noble’ gesture? Were I them, I would think long and hard about this which the public will merely see as business as usual and the blame will be wholly on the Dem side. I wonder if another generation of liberal pols is prepared to sacrifice themselves and the public on the altar of Nancy’s personal success?

RINO in Name Only on November 6, 2010 at 4:55 PM

These progressives really need to ask themselves why they are so in love with Nancy Pelosi.

She gave up on their precious public option on health care, she barely managed a cap and trade bill but was unable to get Harry Reid to even bring it to the floor for a vote, etc. etc. Just which progressive priorities did she actually accomplish?

Meanwhile, she made “liberal” a dirty word and destroyed the Democratic brand for a generation. She failed to give progressive darlings like Tom Periello and Patrick Murphy a path to reelection. She couldn’t even protect three of her won hand-picked Committee chairmen. Progressive hero David Obey was forced to retire, knowing he would have lost. States where liberals and progressives had ruled for years, like Maine and Wisconsin and Minnesota, elected Republican state legislative majorities.

I really don’t get it.

jeanie on November 6, 2010 at 12:21 PM

All very true, but the problem is that the remaining Democrats are mostly very liberal and did not have close races this year. They are a liberal echo chamber and they all want ObamaCare and they don’t care that most of America doesn’t.

I haven’t looked very closely, but I’m guessing that there are no more than a dozen Democrats left who voted for ObamaCare who would be willing to change it in any way, except in a MORE progressive direction. They aren’t listening to the people, because they don’t have to. And they wil make Pelosi their leader again, hide and watch.

rockmom on November 6, 2010 at 6:06 PM

Other than shooting off her liberal mouth Pelosi will have no real power. if the Republican majority so desired it could ignore her and refuse to give her the time of day. Go bother somebody else Nancy the congress no longer wants your company.

Much of what you say is correct but the main thrust of my argument, which I perhaps did n’t make clear, is that deliberately, a purpose, electing Nancy to this office to act as policman defying the voters will send a message to these voters that the Party still cannot be trusted to listen to or process the message. This perception can only further help the GOP in 2012 whether or not Pelosi’s buddies care or get re-elected . It’s about image and perception that the Dems in DC are still refusing to heed the signals and are focused on preserving what they see as their personal legacies and not the will of the majority.

You have to remember: when Prancy Nancy said she would resign if the democrats lost, she thought many people would rise up and say “no, Nancy, no” and vote democratic just to keep her in office.

She and her cronies still think Americans really really love Nancy; they are so cocooned in their beltway bubble.
