Great, great news: Pelosi might stay on as House minority leader

posted at 7:43 pm on November 4, 2010 by Allahpundit

You didn’t think the thirst for power would fade overnight, did you? Why, she reminds me of Lisa Murkowski, except –

I was going to say, “except more obnoxious.” But you know, at this point, I’m really not sure.

High-level Democratic sources in the House tell ABC News Pelosi is seriously considering staying in Congress and running for the position of minority leader.

Pelosi is methodically calling every Democratic House member who won on Tuesday, as well as many who lost, sources tell ABC News. In the process, she is weighing her options and gauging her support.

Some of Pelosi’s closest allies are encouraging her to stay and to lead the Democratic effort to win back their majority. Those encouraging her are arguing, in part, that she can unify the progressives in the caucus, and more importantly, that nobody in the House can raise money for the next campaign better than Pelosi.

She and Hoyer met for an hour and a half yesterday. He’s said he won’t challenge her for minority leader, but hmmmmm:

“Yeah, it’s on,” one senior Democratic aide who was aware of Pelosi’s calls said. “Game on.”

The chief of staff to another lawmaker said Pelosi is “calling members to see where they are regarding her or with Hoyer.”

A senior aide to one California Democrat marveled at the possibility that Pelosi would run again.

“Take a step back, Nancy, and think,” the aide said. “It’s ridiculous if you think that you should still be the leader of our party.”

Blue Dogs like Heath Shuler and Jim Matheson are making noise about opposing her, but they’re now vastly outnumbered by lefties in the caucus. I’m sitting here trying to figure out what strategic angle I might be missing in all this, because it strikes me as simply impossible that this dead weight might actually be retained as the face of the Democratic House caucus. Her favorable rating among independents as of Sunday was eight percent. The GOP just won 60+ seats thanks to a national campaign targeting her above all other Democrats (Obama included) as the archvillain of the Beltway. The progressive caucus can’t possibly be so stupidly loyal as to saddle the party with her toxic numbers for the next House election in 2012 too — especially given their endless crowing vis-a-vis Palin and centrists. To put it in perspective, Palin’s favorables with Democrats are roughly the same as Pelosi’s are with independents. And yet here they are, all set to crown Nancy as the once and future leader of the pack. We can’t possibly be this lucky.

Exit question: Time for a phone call from The One from atop Mount Olympus urging her to consider retirement?

With the general sentiment among Democrats right now that she is chiefly to blame for their downfall in the House, Pelosi will be lucky if she ends up being placed in charge of emptying out the trash bins in the House cafeteria.

If you are one of the unfortunate souls that still has a Dem rep, call them up and demand they keep her as their leader.

Hey, the DailyKos petition to retain Nancy P is really easy to fill out.

Go to: http://tinyurl.com/28koza3

I filled it out as MickeyMouse @ disney.com and added a supporting message:

“If I got on my knees and I pleaded with you
Not to go but to stay in my arms
Would you walk out the door like you did once before?
Or would this time be different, would you sta-a-ay?

Don’t go (Please stay)
Don’t go

P.S. Kos was gracious enough to thank me for my support. What nice people!

We can spend lots of time giggling about the clueless democrats, but I think there are some big problems with the republicans, namely Lindsey Graham. Now, is he clueless, or is there something far more sinister with his recent remarks? Let Nancy continue to suck eggs, but Lindsey must be taken to the woodshed.

That’s a good idea, stldave. I will just go contact Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin and let her know she should support Nancy.

Oh wait.

I can’t do that Conservative Republican Kristy Noem beat her…

Happy days are here again….

Could the Republicans really be blessed again by their enemies? Nancy as the face of the dems, again is almost too much to ask for.

Dear Santa Clause:

I have been an especially good boy this year. This year the only thing I want for Christmas is for Nanci Pelosi to be retained as the Democrat Minority Leader. I know this request is a little out of the “toy” realm in gift giving, but I hope you’ll do everything you can to make this wish come true.

That’s the problem with propaganda. You tend to believe your stories even more than your enemies do. If the MSM keeps saying the Dems lose was all do to the economy and messaging and how stupid the American voters are, then why not keep the leaders you have? If it’s not a repudiation of your programs just keep on trucking. Doesn’t this remind you of that definition of insanity everyone likes?

Tell them you think Hoyer would be too cozy with these right wing nutjobs. Don’t want to give them (us) the cover of bi-partisanship. Sound angry. Make it believable! Read some daily kos and get your talking points memorized.

There’s only a few dozen of them left to call, so we should be able to bombard their phonelines even if we keep it low key.

It’s the Blue Dogs who blame her, and there won’t be enough of them to stop her from becoming Minority Leader. Their caucus is reduced to insanely left urban districts, Barney Frank, Pete Stark, George Miller, Jan Shikowski, Ed Markey, Henry Waxman, Jerold Nadler, Anthony Weiner and the CBCers like Maxine Waters, Rangel & Eddie Bernice Johnson.

They’re all a bunch of insane pinkos. Of course they’ll keep her. They think she did a fantastic job. The ones that know she cost them their seats will be gone.

This is pretty much what I said about Reid still retaining his Senate seat.
Does it suck he won….he!! yes it does.

But the fact is that democrats need to be careful what they wish for.

Reid is highly unpopular, gaffetastic, and the co-face of Obamacare, bailouts, failed stimulus,”the war is lost”, massive spending, and the loss of the democratic majorities in this election cycle.

Having him and Nancy’s mug still on television representing the democratic party is a gift from heaven.

Even after the butt kicking democrats just took on Tuesday night…..they still just don’t get it.

You know, it’s funny. The left always tells us who they fear most by attacking them viciously and conversely by encouraging the right to select moderates because they will attract more people from the left.

On the other hand, we are much less underhanded, we pretty much mean what we say — there’s nothing devious about wanting the Dems to keep Pelosi as minority leader. What a blessing that will be!

Yep, also let Nancy know via that site that she should stay. Not going to say what else I said or who I said it as, don’t want the comment to get culled before being sent on.

ya2daup on November 5, 2010 at 2:01 AM

As more well known people have said,

“You can’t fix stupid!”

Let Pelosi stay!!!

Think about it. Since the mid-1990s, if not for Republican stupidity – behaving like Democrats with big-government spending – led to their being fired and Democrats being re-elected. If the Republicans allow them, this crop of Democrats should be allowed to destroy themselves.

Let Pelosi stay!!!

These far left Democrats are so arrogant that they know what is right, they don’t realize that they are the real theocracy they rail about with organized religions.

1) They just about worship the planet (despite global warming data to be highly suspect) and are ready to die fighting their own holy war to protect it.

2) They believe that they’ve cornered the market of ethics, and knowledge of right and wrong. If you are not one of them, you are stupid, wrong, evil, or a nazi.

3) They are passionate and emotional. They make decisions without regard for how it impacts millions, or hundreds of millions of people worldwide (e.g. funding abortion worldwide) without care for the consequences. Ironic coming from a party that rails against creationists and touts logic + science.

4) They believe that they are doing inner city kids a favor by forcing them into the prisons of disastrous public schools. They favor teachers unions, regularly vote against school choice or competition – truly committing those children to intellectual slavery, economic slavery. Once, and always bigots, the Democrats are the party of real racism.

5) They circumvent the votes of the people in elections regarding a wide variety of statewide proposals and propositions. No one ever hears of a conservative appeals court, or activist conservative court overturning the summary votes of the people in a statewide election… but you do hear this occurring via liberal activist courts (e.g. 9th Circ Ct App).

5) They do not equally enforce voter fraud or voter intimidation. What does this become other than taxation without representation? Or a church dogma? How is selling carbon credits different from selling indulgences?

Let Pelosi stay!!!

This current crop of Republicans better start sticking to their guns, start promoting small government principals and alienating the RINOs so that they switch to the Democrat Party – where they can be “moderates” (e.g. Lindsey Graham). Become pristine with ethics – do not allow Democrats a way to justify their stupidity.

Start studying Sun Tzu… their poster boy said it first. We are their enemies. That is how we should start looking at them.

Fighting rich white liberals on both coasts is a waste of time. Start chopping away the foundation for what makes them rich. Educate the african american base. Take away even 1/3 to 1/2 of this voting block – the Democrats will never recover. Start a mass campaign in inner cities sounding out all of the evil policies the Democrat Party and their own inbred Uncle Toms (e.g. Conyers in Detroit, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton) have been promoting in order to keep them dependent upon government handouts, slaves to the Democrat Party. Promote leaders like newly elected FLA Rep. Allen West. Other examples: (a) mount a similar campaign against heads of major unions – highlight their corruption and addressing what it means in the loss of jobs (no union leader has lost his/her house when factories move out of town). Take away a small % of union working votes; (b) keep the spotlight on organizations like Acorn; (c) eliminate federal funding for Universities who host leaders of nations which sponsor terrorism to come and speak on campus, etc.

Start pushing to decentralize the federal budget. The only federal funds which should go to individual states are for mass disasters, national defense assets (e.g. National Guard, military bases), funds for police agencies, fire, DEA, etc. NO MORE MONEY TO SANCTUARY CITIES, NOR TO CITIES WHICH ATTACK & MALIGN MILITARY RECRUITING! Make the states more responsible for the consequences of their decisions. If the states know they will have no government bailouts, they’ll have to either increase taxes (which eventually lead to working persons and business leaving the state, or they’ll have to cut taxes. Consider CA, ultimately, CA will have to acknowledge that they were wrong all of the time believing as that state went, so does the rest of the country – what nonsense! That states economy is worth squat right now. They have NO BARGAINING POWER! That is, unless Republicans allow the RINOs and Democrats to enable them.

NO MORE 2000+ PAGE BILLS BEING PASSED!!! NO MORE BILLS BEING PASSED WITHOUT BEING FULLY READ AND UNDERSTOOD BY THOSE WHO ARE VOTING! None of us would sign a contract without reading it. Except Nancy Pelosi.

ELIMINATE ALL EARMARKS WHICH HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING BUT NATIONAL SECURITY OR INTERSTATE INFRASTUCTURE!!! If a state wants something, they should save for it, just like anyone else.

BUILD THE DAMN FENCE!!! START ENFORCING THE DAMN IMMIGRATION LAWS!!! DO NOT COMPROMISE WITH AMNESTY!!! Until those people who are here illegally recognize that they have broken the law FIRST, and are willing to PAY THE PRICE, then they should be prosecuted to the FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW. Others who would like to make it right – should pay a penalty, then be placed at the end of the line for citizenship.

If so, they will have no other way to promote themselves for anything that they truly are – socialists, communists, at the very least, they’ll be sounding more & more like Alan Grayson, or the morons on MSNBC. Who will people consider voting for… then?

Allow the Democrats will destroy themselves – remember, they believe they are doing the right thing. (So do Islamic radical terrorists when lowing themselves up or chopping off heads.) The Republicans have but to push them to becoming desperate into forcing their hand… rather than enabling them. When the opponent is down, pound them into submission. Simply, don’t fix the Democrat image by becoming stupid.

So, let Pelosi stay!!!

However, the Republican Party has yet to demonstrate that they are savvy. If they make the same mistakes as they have done in the past 12 years – by having weak leadership and being “Democrat Lite” again. If they do, then “You can’t fix stupid!” will also apply to them.

JimP on November 5, 2010 at 8:47 AM

Nancy Pelosi is addicted to Power so this isn’t a surprise. She has got to be going through severe withdrawals, and she needs something to get her through even the minority leadership.

People still don’t get Nancy – she is a Power Monger. It’s all about Power and Control over people. She can’t go cold turkey.

If she is made the minority leader – it’s going to show people just how far gone the Left of the Democrat Party are – they would be doubling down on Failure. Political Ideology won’t just be coming in front of their country, now Political Ideology will come in front of their party affiliation.

Remember the old milk commercials “Got Milk”

“Got Power” imagine Nancy waving the speaker gavel, and they can’t pry it out of her hand.

Power Corrupts, Absolute Power, Corrupts Absolutely.

Dr Evil on November 5, 2010 at 8:53 AM

Please stay Nanzi. Please, please, pretty please. You aren’t getting more sane by the day that’s for sure.

Plus Harrah’s Harry the guy for whom the mob casino, the usual Vega$ mafia, and the corrupt unions (but I repeat myself) stole the election… shady Harry’s demeanor is an essential part of the decrepit dynamic duo which helped make the landslide possible in parts of the country not fully under organized crime’s control.

Kal-eeee-forn-ya’s problems aren’t going to magically vanish though the Old Media and AssPress will do their best to hide them… Moonbeam, Ma’am, and Nanzi will be emcee’s over the collapsing disaster they created. with their voters having no one to blame for themselves for sticking to the road to their own destruction.

So, Nanzi, keep your usual psychotic demeanor. Tell Harrah’s Harry to make lots of his usual falsetto noise, too. It will provide plenty of sound bites for 2012 elections especially when both play obvious interference during Zero’s increasingly likely, possibly even bi-partisan impeachment next year.

Hadn’t considered that angle, phelps………but it sure is taking a hell of a chance. The Right successfully painted her as the face of evil (which she is of course), and if the left (in contrition) is even going to make an attempt at a “show” of bi-partisanship, why would they put such a divisive hack with an approval rating in single digits back in place?
