Kendrick Meek: Crist offered me his sister’s cross to get me to drop out
posted at 9:38 pm on October 29, 2010 by Allahpundit
I think this is going to be my last Crist post of the year, guys. I can’t deal with it anymore. Even a devout cynic can only take so much.
Mr. Crist, the Florida governor, had called Mr. Meek, a Miami congressman, earlier that morning, about 4:50 a.m., leaving a voice mail asking if they could meet up at the AIPAC gathering. “I’ll call you later this morning and see if we can work out a time to get together just you and me,” Mr. Crist said in the voice mail, which was played for Washington Wire by Mr. Meek. “Take care, buddy.”
Mr. Meek was scheduled to speak at AIPAC about 8:30 and Mr. Crist at 10, but the governor showed up an hour early in hopes of catching the congressman.
Mr. Meek said he tried to avoid Mr. Crist, but as he left the stage, “there he was, right in front of me.”
“He said, ‘If you were to drop out and work with me and help me we together can beat Marco Rubio,’” Mr. Meek recalled. “I said, ‘Governor, that’s a non-starter.’
“Then he dug down into his pocket and pulled a small cross out,” Mr. Meek continued. “He said his sister gave it to him and he wanted to give it to me so I would think about it.”
Because, you see, Jesus wants Charlie Crist in the Senate. Meek claims he was shocked: “I told him to keep the cross and that I carry my Christianity in my heart.” Which is a noble reply, but alas, my friends, nobility doesn’t always carry the day. According to a new story just published by the NYT, some of Meek’s black supporters are already starting to defect to Crist thanks in part to Bill Clinton’s involvement in all this. Which, of course, is precisely why that story was leaked to Politico yesterday in the first place.
Update: I wonder if this incident helps explain why Meek changed his mind about dropping out. Maybe he’s now so creeped out by Crist that he figures, whatever it may mean for Rubio, he’s got to stay in and deny this guy as many votes as possible. I don’t blame him a bit.

I swear on jetboy’s hat that there is a prono of charlie crist on Kevin Jennings desk with Rahm laughing in the background as charlie is taking kevin to the elbow and moaning about how he’ll do the bidding of the WH in the senate if only the white house will help him win. There is simply no other explanation. Crist has sold his soul and this is what we are left with….

Ya know, I was saying back in April that Crist should have just dropped out and kept his money… there was another possible shot at 2012… now he has royally screwed himself over… unless this independent run was a ruse done with the acknowledgement of some GOP bigwigs… but I doubt that…

To really appreciate the magnitude of Crist’s douchebaggery, you have to see one of his ads, like this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyknF-SHlQc&feature=player_embedded
Unbelievable that someone so slimy could pull off that degree of bogus sincerity. He just looks at the camera and recites his b.s., with a completely straight face. Utterly shameless.

Keith Olbermann had Meek on his show. He had tweeted last night he thought Meek would be “a hero with a capital ‘H’ if he got out and supported Crist”. Well, Meek came well prepared and poor Olbermann looked completely frustrated because he did. And then Olbermann interviewed David Corn and they decided they were both going to have a “bad weekend”.

ramrants on October 29, 2010 at 9:57 PM
I am so far confused by a lot of this….but I would think Bills interference, and Meek being a well liked black man…there’s no way blacks would run away from him, and into the tentacles of Crist.
Good lord this is a mess, and if Hillary is running, wouldn’t a stunt like this, by Bill, hurt her?
capejasmine on October 29, 2010 at 9:57 PM
I don’t believe it. Meek was playing the race card very heavily with Olbermann and Olbermann could only just sit there. Meek said he has been running for two years – his name has been “official” that long and as I believe he said he is the first black Senate candidate from Florida.

If this doucheb*g sinks any lower, he’s gonna come out in China.
Dopenstrange on October 29, 2010 at 10:02 PM
The strategy seems to be:
We’ll just keep saying over and over that he should/will/is going to drop out and eventually every media narrative will be about Meek dropping out or not dropping out.
They are essentially forcing Meek and anything he wants to say off the stage.
The heavy hitters doing this is what really intrigues me. I can’t really imagine a non-hyper-partisan Democrat watching this unfold at home and not see this for the blatant bullying it is. OVER CRIST?!?!?!?! This guy can’t carry the Republican vote on his own so the Democrats say “hey, Charlie, come play with us”. Do they think he’s THAT photogenic and valuable a player that they’ll throw a solid, hard-working by the book Democrat who could have been a strong performer for 30+ more years.
The calculus on this just doesn’t make sense to me. I expect the Democrats to take my money out in a field and burn it, but I just don’t understand the millions they are blowing to get at most a pyrrhic victory in a solidly red becoming redder state?
Or are they that afraid of Rubio?
If they really are that afraid of him, why risk it? Rubio would be Obi Wan for the right if somehow they pulled off this Repub-turn-Indy-backflip-Dem-toss-the-real-dem-overboard-mctwist.

If Meeks wants to have a future in the Democratic party, and he apparently does, he is trying to look like a loyal Dem who’ll go the distance for the party and won’t wimp out.
Stepping aside for another Dem, who’s also been a loyal Dem is one thing, but doing it for someone who may or may not caucus with the GOP is another.

YES! He is young, handsome, articulate & charismatic. He can explain the benefits of conservatism better than anyone I’ve heard in a very long time. But most of all, he is all of those things and LATINO! The largest minority group in the country that the Dems DESPERATELY need to have voting for them at around 65-70% if they are going to be viable going forward. Marco is the greatest threat to that out there right now. He embodies and can explain exactly why those that came here looking for opportunity should be conservatives and should shun the statist agenda.
He is their Fat Man & Little Boy all wrapped up in one person.

One of the first orders of business in a Republican controlled congress should be to file inquiries state by state to learn if the welfare and public aid departments are using the E-Verify system.
This endeavor alone will reduce the State’s and the Federal deficit by billions of dollars. I guarantee it.

Some are, some aren’t. I’m of Mexican descent on my dad’s side and know that not all Latinos are the same. It depends on where you’re from. Most Cubans & South/Central Americans are conservatives. Mexicans tend to be more liberal. However, they are very culturally conservative, and most, at least in Texas, come here to find jobs, not welfare, and the voting patterns of Hispanics in Texas tend to reflect that. Hispanics are competitive in the state for both parties. It seems to be different in California.
However, I firmly believe that someone that can really speak to Latinos, in perfect Spanish no less, can cut through the crap that is fed to them by the Dems and get their votes, no matter where they are from or have immigrated to in the country.
La Raza does not represent all of us.
